Wow. 23 years and 100 billion dollars later the Strategic Defense Initiative, otherwise known as "Star Wars" was able to intercept a target missile. Yep, if America's enemies ever happen to tell America when, where, how, and at what speed they're launching an intercontinental ballistic missile at us we'll show them whose boss! Instead of bailing Social Security out, properly armoring, paying and equipping soldiers, or feeding entire starving nations for decades we've managed to hit one dummy missile in 23 years. What was it that Eisenhower said we should look out for? "In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together." Yeah, Eisenhower made Nostradamus look like Mis Cleo on that one. |

Probably because it's from 1801 and is operated by hamsters by who cares. I think the irony of stopping missiles with more missiles made star wars destined to fail. |

Diplomacy? Anyhow, this program was never about stopping missiles, it was about enriching the military, its contractors, and all the politicians they bribe, I mean "make contributions to."
