Windmills?!

Why do MO windmills look different from AO windmills?

Xavier 08-15-2006 12:38 AM

it can be:
1) evolution, you come across more free muds in MO and they may have the time to build something more complex, in AO all the muds are gone from paramonia since a long time.
2) purpose, maybe they don't have to do the same thing, and in AO they may need less energy

what I'm wondering is what are they donig with mills?

Nate 08-15-2006 05:09 AM

Plus, they are in quite distant regions. Perhaps the different tribes had developed differing technologies.

Note the difference between the two types of windmill - the MO ones are similar to Dutch windmills or the ones used to mill flour. The AO ones look more similar to the smaller ones you might see on a farm to pump water out of a bore.

munchman92 08-15-2006 05:11 AM

there are windmills in AO? where?

Nate 08-15-2006 05:21 AM

In the background in Paramonia. Scrabania has those wierd bladder things that might count as well.

I would go on TOGG and find a picture of them but my internet is too sloooow here.

munchman92 08-15-2006 09:35 AM

o ok kl i neva really looked at the background i will now

Different cultures = different architecture style.

I don't mind this thread at all. On the other hand Dusan, please don't make posts like this any more as I don't want to be overworked by warning you for spam and bad grammar.

Ditto for munchman92; please try to use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation in your posts.

Remember you are talking to a person from Siberia and a person from Kent. You can't expect these people to be fluent English-speakers, Nate. Their current language is plenty comprehensible.

Nate 08-15-2006 06:05 PM

True. But I can expect them to put in an effort.

Capitalisation, at the very least.

I feel that card is being played way too much. There have been plenty of members that speak a foreign language (including a different alphabet) that can manage to post in an understandable manner where as in Dusan's posts you just get something that looks like it was recited by Helen Keller.

Wil 08-15-2006 06:32 PM

That's a silly way to judge them. Not everyone has the same linguistic ability.

But on inspecting the issue a bit more, Dusan, you could at least spell out ‘you’ properly.

Would someone else please find the Abe's Oddysee version?

Those bladders are not what I was referring to as windmills. They are more likely like the vaporators in Star Wars that extract water from the air. On the other hand, I am surprised that a) so many people watch the background and b) that people think it is a bad topic-living in Australia I have not seen many windmills, and didn't know about the different types

Nate 08-15-2006 11:18 PM

In explanation of my previous post:

In AO: the windmills resemble ones like this:

In MO, the windmills vaguely resemble ones like this:

Dusan 08-16-2006 02:27 AM

Nate= Let me get this strait: YOU wanna warn me because my english grammar is not good?

used = You're an asshole. You are folowing me and keep saying my threads are simple. What should I say about this one? You have something against me, or what? You also have NO rights to judge my english, and in same time insulting my inteligence, because this is my SECCOND language. Maybe it is hard for your spoiled american brain to understand that there are other people beside you. You also need to stop folowing every my step, and participate in every argue against me. Hope that was understandable for you.
note: I do not learn english at school, do not have any private classes, have no relevant in uk and\or USA. So much about my linguistic ability.

max= try SERBIA for a change. I do not have any connections with russia. And thanks

From now on, every stupid spelling mistakes I make (something like: tat=that, yu= you etc) you can consider as typing mistakes, and not trying to humiliate me.

Nate 08-16-2006 02:47 AM

I have replied to Dusan through PM and this discussion is over.

Back to the windmills!

Wil 08-16-2006 03:33 AM

Yes, sorry. I wasn't thinking of Russia at all.

magic9mushroom 08-16-2006 09:04 PM

Can people not flame on my thread!

By the way, I think the AO ones have only 4 blades.

Bullet Magnet 08-20-2006 08:52 AM

The bladders would be lit up by a candle... or firefly. The bladder's surface disperses the light, making glowing balls for nighttime communication etc.

Excuse me, Max? Incomprehensible Long-tails? Have you acually been to Kent? I've been to Norfolk, and didn't notice anything peculiar about the locals' language skills.

DarkHoodness 08-20-2006 03:20 PM

You know, they changed a lot of things in MO compared to AO. Scrabs and Paramites are different, for example. Possesable Slogs. . . Heck, Abe doesn't even walk or jump the same as he did in AO and AE. And these are things I've either noticed in preivews or have been told by friends 'cause I haven't played MO yet. :P

It seems Windmills are yet another of the many oversights they made. Wasn't MO made with many different people on the OWI team anyway, compared to the first two games? And isn't that one of the reasons it wasn't as good as it should of been?

I don't know what Long-tails means, but finally someone spotted my jest! :p

A lot of the foundations for Munch's Oddysee were set by the same people who made the first two games. It took so long, a lot of the team changed, but I don't think that's why MO didn't turn out the way it was expected to. I think it was the need to deliver by a deadline that OWI found themselves in a corner, and had to cut back drastically.

And let's face it, what they were hyping MO up to be hasn't been delivered by anyone else half a decade later.

I don't think different styles of windmills is an oversight, just some variation.

Bullet Magnet 08-21-2006 03:05 AM

I was just kidding. But apparently "long tails" is a nickname for those from Kent, something I discovered minutes before that post. I just wanted to see if it was actually in common usage anywhere else.

:

Well, Spore comes close to that sort of hype (dispite being about different things), and we have actually been shown its workings and mechanics already. But that game has had six years and five million dollars to develop.

But everything in the original premise for Munch... was unreasonable in hindsight, given OWI's restrictions.
