Eh, America has had plenty of these "foiled plots", too. It sounds like the guys did a real bang up job and then you dig a little deeper and find that its all phony baloney. I'm reserving judgment until more writing about this comes out, in oh, a week.

Once again the British police have probably done it right, yet will be shouted at non-stop for holding up 4 welsh people's holiday to the real world.

They were planning to suicide bomb at least 6 planes in the middle of their flights. Hundreds of people of many nationalities could've been killed. Well, apparently anyway, perhaps it is best to see what happens. :p

My parents couldn't get their flight to Tobago. Meaning I want be alone for 2 weeks, no party now :(

I hated how the news team were really smarmy about the entire thing. "But this seems to be a growing trend in Europe; home grown terrorists." *Shakes head* I know that some news teams were dicks about the July 7th attack as well.

But hooray for catching them nasty terrorists; I await more news.

However, to more unimportant news: my plane back has been delayed 5 hours and we have to turn up about 4 hours before take off to be searched... I'm not looking forward to seeing all the police carrying guns. I really don't know how that can be seen as normal, it makes me shiver.

Guess I'm lucky I didn't decide to stay longer. Wow, I'd be stranded in Germany with Alector. . . But then that wouldn't be too bad. ;)

I mean, there's been plots before since 911 - This one was clever but obviously it wasn't *that* clever or else they wouldn't be been discovered. I did notice how easy it is to take stuff aboard planes in your hand luggage - They only scan your bags, not actaully look through them.

On the good side, the police stopped some idiots from attempting to kill a lot of people in a really stupid way, and aircraft cause a LOT of pollution, so this incident stopped that massive ammount of pollution for one day - Next time I go to Germany I'm going by ship and train.

Still, from a selfsih point of view, they had better stop making a fuss about it and it had better blow over in two months - I'm expecting a visitor by then.

Anyhow, has anybody noticed how easy it is for terrorists to terrorize? Think about: Some terrorists could talk a pretty show about taking out the metro and some subways and BAM! the whole thing would shut down for days, cost 10s of millions of dollars in investigations, and turn the media and the people's attention away from actual terror plots. If I was running a terrorist group I'd expose "plots" constantly as they seem to be nearly as effective a money waster/infrastructure damager as actual terrorist activities, its cheap and easy, and it takes heat off the real plots.

Wouldn't work - it's too easy to mask a bomb in a computer or something. Pretty soon we'll need mandatory floating-element testing (or whatever it's called) where they test to see if there are any explosive materials coming out of you and your bags. Or maybe we'll just have to stop carrying any hand-luggage.

What's the maximum amount of explosive materials you're allowed in your hand luggage these days?

None anymore apparently. No more hand luggage for UK flights as far as I heard.

But yea, Statikk is right again. It's much easier for a terrorist to use the media then to actualy make an attack. 9/11 set the basis, now everytime someone says 'BOO' everything is shut down and the army is called out to protect whatever it was you said BOO to.
Last year or so, someone forgot their suitcase on the trainstation. Minutes later the entire station was cleared out, bombsquad was called in, nationwide the train traffic was shut down for HOURS!. All they found were some clothes and a toothbrush...
If you realy want to throw a fuss, all you have to do is leave notes with 'There is a bomb in the area' absolutely everywhere. It shall provide glorious humor :D.

Now they want to ban carry on luggage. Look out everybody, the terrorists have put poision in their Gatorade and they're going to force feed it to you! And look out for that music playing device, its got the Brown Noise on it!
They've even banned eyeglass cases. Seriously, what can a terrorist hope to accomplish with an easily checked eyeglass case? You know who I really feel sorry for? People who constantly take business flights and have to give up thousands of dollars in electronics to lazy, incompetent, underpaid twenty-nothing jackoffs. Getting your luggage back, with all the new luggage flooding the turnstyles, undamaged, will be like flippin' a freakin' coin.

I say this without having made any effort to watch the news, but it seems that, despite my intuition, I didn't actually wake up this morning and am in fact living in a fantasy world of surrealist non-sequiters. No more hand luggage? Sure, alright. Looks like I won't be on a plane any time soon.

Mind you, flights are just about the only industry not falling on their arse, yet they're one of the worst. It's about time somebody tempered their growth. Rock on, terrorists!

Yeah, commercial airplane businesses aren't suffering hugely since 9/11. And they certainly haven't required massive layoffs and government subsidies to keep from bankruptcy, nosiree.
With the way things are going 20 years from now we'll be rectally and vaginally examined before boarding and we'll fly bucknaked, blindfolded, and strapped into our chairs with diamond wires. Its the only way to be safe! Because safety has to come before everything, including common sense, practicality, and concern for the increasingly pissed off and hassled fliers.

I think it's pretty much save to say that by new the terrorists have won. You don't need to blow something up to bring terror. In fact, Heathrow being out of commission for a full day probably costs them more then if 9 airliners would have been blown up. And the fact that all it takes is a simple note to have something in shut down (like I discribed in my previous post) just makes me believe that we have lost the war on terrorism. They have won, there's nothing more to it.

I fly back to England tomorrow from Canada and we're not alloud to take drinks or cosmetics. One area of Canada has prevented even the staff from taking any liquids, pastes or gels on he flight, so people wil have to go thirsty; anything short of bodily fluids and fuel (and if they could do without them I'm sure they would).
Personally I see sense in the precautions. The loss of the airliners wouldn't be an issue worse than the plot Havoc, but the hundreds of lives that go with them would be.

What annoys me is the American media's reaction to it all: for them its an excuse to praise the wonderful American government for saving us all from Al quaida (or however its spelt), despite the fact that no definite connection between that terrorist group and this plot has been found, there is no proof that American cities are under direct threat (no matter how many times Americ says Washington and New York were targeted) and England have actually tried to prevent the FBI getting involved because they know that these are the sort of assumptions the american forces would make. I was watching CNN yesterday: they were interviewing an English guy about the plot and when he started to say that America wasn't under personal threat, they cut him off and the presenter started talkiing very quickly to cover his voice. I'm inclined to call that idiocy. The American's are making chaos to make themselves look better.

Well yea ofcourse, but on a financial level shutting down Heathrow for a day would seriously hurt the economy. To put it very bluntly they would actualy save money if they would have had the terrorists board the planes and blow them up. Not saying that should have happend, but in a way the terrorists caused a lot more damage now that they would have if they would have gotten on the plane. Both financialy and moraly. Because this just reinforced that idea to people that terrorism is still very real. And that is still needed to shut down train stations and airfields everytime there is the slightest idea of terrorism. Dumb people like Bush may think they have terrorism under control, but in fact the terrorists have won right after 9/11. They never gave us a chance to retaliate. They won as soon as those planes hit.

Look at it this way, and this is the truth. If I were to carefully plan it out. I could cripple an entire country SINGLE HANDED, by sending out fake terrorism threats. If I were to keep that up for years without getting caught, you could drive a country into bankrubcy because of the economic crisis you would cause on the long run.
If I were to threaten to bomb Boeing HQ for instance, all the shares for Boeing would drop down dramaticaly, just because of a meaningless threat. Imagine what would happen if you were to threaten diffrent key companies that keep a country's economy going? It would totaly collapse.

That was the point I'm trying to make. And if you don't believe me, try it out for yourself. It's not that hard. Make one phonecall to heathrow with the report that there are several bombs spread around heathrow, and they will promptly shut down the entire airport again. I dare anyone to try this. It will actualy be very fun to see :P.

Did you see the way that these dangerous liquids are being disposed of? All in a big, fat container, with no rhyme or reason, next to hundreds if not thousands of people. Which makes me think that this is all total bullshit, a way for flagging Labors and Republicans to drum up support. And the major news networks are falling for it hook, line, and sinker. I'd like to say I'm surprised but nothing surprises me anymore.

Do your homework before you make comments like that. Nowhere in the coran does it say that people should kill themselfs for their religion.
