WTO Talks Collapse

Okay, how much does this suck! I am so utterly pissed about this! How hard could it poosibly be to make trade fair for all nations!

I did my research, and as far as I can gather, all the reasons are total bullsh1t. :banghead:

I don't know anyone who isn't for fair trade, in fact, just about every ordinary civilian in the world is! How is it that it could possibly fail when our governments are all elected by people in support of it?

I'm not for fair trade. It makes the chocolate more expensive, which is all I care about.

When most nations and companies prefer to benefit from trade as selfishly as they can, I'd say it's pretty hard. I have no idea what these talks are, as I'm a couple of weeks behind with the news, but the failure of any kind of discussion on the matter of fairness for more people doesn't surprise me in the least.

You're right. Everyone on the planet supports fair trade. As long as it's fairer for him than anyone else.

I think fair trade is an amazing organization. To the extent my Dad dislikes going food shopping with me because I only want to buy the fair trade coffee, etc.

However, it's not suprising that the talks have collapsed. Look at society. The huge coperations have no problems with ripping off the workers if it gets them more money.

It shouldn't go on but even if fair trade was introduced into all countries - Cadburys, Nike, Reebok and other huge companys would continue to rip off the farmers and the people who make the companys run.

Ah, Fair Trade. I just had to delete a rant against "free trade". Carry on.

Jacob 07-25-2006 12:44 PM

I'm not really bothered about Free Trade.

My ignorance makes it unimportant to me.

I almost pulled the same stunt as Statikk.
