Prey?
Up until today, the game seemed a lot like your average everyday Doom ripoff. But, today I downloaded the demo, and, since I finally have a computer nice enough to run the game on high, it really seemed excellent.
There was a beautiful introduction, the graphics were excellent, the puzzles were intuitive, and the combat was both visceral and enjoyable. There were also a lot of in-game cutscenes involving crazy people and posessed children. The thing that really caught me, though, was the mythological factor. The story goes that the main character is a Cherokee Indian living on a reservation, and he's lost his faith. He and his girlfriend were captured by AAAALLIIIEENNNSSS, and are stuck aboard this main ship. However, he escapes, while his girlfriend did not. So, according to what I saw in the demo, Tommy (the main character) has to 'find himself' spiritually, and visit the land of the Ancients, which is a really cool desert plateau area (not dissimilar from the Grubb city in SW). It was a whole bunch of fun, and although I can see some of the gameplay getting repetetive, it just might be worth picking up. Is anyone else interested in this game at all? |
This game sounds so awsome and I wish I had a good computer or an X box 360.
|
I thought the artwork was really too Doomishness. I'll get the demo so I can judge it.
It's the Duke Nukem people, isn't it? |
Blegh, beat it and in my opinion it was mediochre. Too drawn out and too many plot holes.
|
Yeah, I'd probably buy this one. Shame there aren't more weapons (Checked them out in the Multiplayer mode on the 360 demo. Story sounds fun too. And the gravity changed? Awesome!
But then again, I wanna buy Battle of Middle Earth 2 as well... |
I hate the fact that I spent thirty five minutes downloading the demo, because I think the game is just plain crap.
You can give a turd some warpaint and fancy guns, but in the end it's still a turd. Where the hell is the Dead Rising demo, anyway? Ninety-Nine Nights was Okay, but prey is just plain doo doo. Stereotyping native americans isn't just wrong, it's annoying. |
'Prey' does look crap, in all fairness. And all this "OH MY GOD! THIS WILL REVOLUTIONISE FPS GAMES!!" just reeks of overhype.
...much like the overhype that accompanies 'Half Life 2'. FPS', thus far, have been shockingly crap. I try and stay away from them at all costs. Yes. |
I'd like to play it (for criticism) and see for myself, yet my PC is crap and I don't have 360.

For you peeps who say that the graphics look too Doom3-ish, remember, it's BUILT on the Doom3 engine.
|
its made by the exact same people who made Doom too, I'm pretty sure. It's an awesome game though. It's not like Doom 3 which sucked. It actually has a plot and has some cool features like walking on walls and the ceiling, a lot of teleporting, modifying weapons, and when you die you go to a spirit world where you have to fight wraiths until you go back to the point where you died.
why do you guys hate FPS's so much? I mean I don't like them all but they're not all overrated. |
Actually, it was made by 3D Realms, the same company that made DOOMs nemesis Duke Nukem 3D.
|
oh ok then...
