Y'know what this place needs?

A "Classics" section. Its exactally the opposite of the Necrum Site. Basically when a thread cannot get any greater (due to a hilarious argument and the like) it is locked and places in The Classics thread for people to look at and go "Aaaah, that was a good 'un".

Just a thought.

Rex Tirano 07-14-2006 02:43 AM

Can I lock you in there? :p

Hn... Good idea.

But won't it just turn out like another Necrum? Just a forum filled with old threads that no one actually reads.

Alcar 07-14-2006 03:01 AM

Exactly. Good idea, but I'd turn out like Necrum.

And too be honest, Necrum is rather useless. It was only valuable when the OWF were on ezBoard, so that older threads would not be deleted when forums stretched over the 20 page limit. Right now, the only reason I don't get rid of it is because Employee Lounge would be alone in Zulag 3 :p

Ah, fair enough then.

Havoc 07-14-2006 05:36 AM

I think Necrum is a good place as it serves as a topic archive. I actualy stole the idea and use it on my own site :p.

I sort of stole the idea as well, but that is another story. But have you seen some of the ******** posted in Necrum? (ELEMTOFLOVE!)

used:) 07-14-2006 05:58 AM

Normally it's just threads Multies made that are found in Necrum.

Speaking of Necrum, did there not used to be more than two threads in it?

AquaticAmbi 07-14-2006 08:11 AM

Aww, I think it was a pretty creative idea. I guess it would become another necrum though. And we'd all probably have different opinions on which threads should go in there.

It is good, but I really doubt it would work with this and any other forum.

Two threads are only showing because the forum by default only shows threads posted in, within the past month. You can change this by going to your User Options, or by changing the specific options in the forum at the very bottom.

www.ateaseweb.com/mb

They have a "Classics" section that members can still post in. Some of the threads are hilarious whilst others are terrifying.

Jordan 07-15-2006 05:42 AM

Have you people noticed, when more join the forum, there are more threads in Necrum? It is pretty annoying... :S

Nate 07-15-2006 06:41 AM

Perhaps instead of just saying that there should be a classics section, you could suggest which ones should go in there?

All I can think of is the old WDYLL threads and Jacob's Ugly People thread.

used:) 07-15-2006 07:59 AM

If you do make one, I think it should be placed away from Necrum, to get the feeling that it has more eminence.

Thank you very much.

That sounds like a great idea, Fez. Selecting which threads should go in there could be a democratic process. I'm guessing vB has an option for users to rate threads. Then, all threads rated with, say, five stars, could automatically be mirrored in the Classics forum (so that they're not removed from their proper forum). But knowing OWF's anal fear of abuse, we'd have to spend months refining the rules for such a system.

You could designate Zulag 3 as the meta-Zulag, for all forums that address the Forums themselves. That is: Employee Lounge, Suggestions and Help and possibly Welcomes and Birthdays.

I think what we really need is a spam forum. There's a forum I go to that has one and it manages it all quite well. It would be a place just where random things could be posted without all the senseless moaning of how spam is evil.

And PS, when the hell are we going to be told who our new OT mod is?

I only voted today. Hopefully it will count.

Well, you're an exception. Everyone else should have voted by now. At least the ones that aren't on vacation or that have internet access.

Nate 07-23-2006 05:10 PM

I think it's been already decided not to have a spam forum. It was attempted once by Claire-Bear (remember her?) and didn't work. For one thing, it appeared to have increased the overall level of spam in other sections of the forums.

used:) 07-23-2006 05:18 PM

Bah, all you'd have to do is make it eveident that it was clear that that is where your spam goes.

On another note, it could also be used as punishment for members who receive three warnings. They could just be restricted to the spam forum instead of the all of the forums.

And Clair Bear was in a different time. She became unactive even before I registered. I think we should try it again, considering the new times we're in.

Cullen Heath 07-23-2006 05:26 PM

I think that if anything we should have a "Classic" section where the threads can still be posted in, and that would make it a semi-spam section. I don't think that a Forum with total spamming should be allowed, though. It's non-sense.

used:) 07-23-2006 06:14 PM

Ehh, well, it's a possibility.

Ah, so it could work! I think it should be done.

AquaticAmbi 07-31-2006 05:12 PM

I came to this thread just now to say, "We could always settle for a thread where people can post links and comment on some of their favorite, classic moments," but then I rememberd that hey! I tried that once!

"Hilarity in OWF's History" or something like that was the title. I think it got a few links posted and a few moments discussed, but I think some off-topic stuff ruined the whole thing.

We could always try it again? I have at least one moment in mind that I'd like to share laughs over again.

Zerox 08-02-2006 04:29 AM

There's no point in the Employee's lounge as no-one uses it (otherwise it would show up, saying that there's new posts there) and the Necrum burial grounds are pointless as anything in there gets deleted after a few days anyway, so there's no real point in either. Aren't they just taking up space?

Nate 08-02-2006 04:41 AM

a) There's plenty going on in EL. It's just that the plebes are not allowed access.
b) I can see threads in Necrum going back to April 2001. You have to change the display options at the bottom to show threads from longer than a month back.
and:
c) I'm yet to be convinced about this as no-one has been able to suggest a few threads worthy of 'classic' status. The only ones I can think of are Jacobs 'ugly people' thread and the old WDYLL ones.

Wil 08-02-2006 06:02 AM

It's the summer. Nobody can be bothered to trawl through the Forums seeking out their old favourites.

The thread where Dino yelled at you endlessly over the use of the term brackets vs. parenthesis. That was pretty classic.
