Would strangers wrath sold better if it was released on Gamecube?
When Strangers wrath was released on xbox a year ago i beilieved along with other people this game would sell ridiculously well and secure a future for oddworld inhabitants.
But then you could say it flopped,it didn't sell well as expected and xbox fan's didnt seem to want nothing to do with it. Now one year on i wondered what would of happened if they released it on the Nintendo Gamecube, a fantastic console which is highly underated i must add. Gamecube at the time and still is trailing behind in the console war, it seemed that once people had bought the machine many who previously wanted it decided not to opt to it due to lack of games. If they released oddworld strangers wrath on the Gamecube last year i beilieve it would of been a mega hit, due to the fact gamecube owners are desperate for new games and the majority not including me saying the games are too childish. Do you think Strangers wrath would of Benefitted more if it was made for Gamecube and Not xbox? or do you think the game would of benefitted if it was released on all three formats? (xbox,ps2,gamecube) The game as i know looks graphically outstanding on xbox which also leads the question could gamecube run it at a similair quality? And should oddworld carried on work on the ps2 version slowing development times down? |
I don't think they should've carried out the deal with PS2. For the simple reason: i don't have one! I have an X-boX though. And i can't really see Stranger's Wrath on Game Cube. Not because i don't have it, (which i do) because most of the games on the Game Cube are, as you said, childish. And mainly for the little peoples.

I think it would have sold worse on the Gamecube, in all honesty. It was nothing about what console it was on that made it flop, 'twas the advertising fault on EA's part.
|
Yes indeedy, the only time i have ever seen an add for an Oddworld game was for Abe's Oddysee... Back in 2001...
|
No, I dont think so. The fact of the matter is that most Cube owners are children. Sure the mirority of GC owners might of bought it, but I doubt it would be bigger than Xbox sales. Also, the GC controller+Stranger's Wrath=Bad Gameplay.

It didn't sell well because EA is McSucks and put out barely any advertising for it. The bad sales were not in any way related to the console users not wanting the game.

It should have been multi-platform. It was going to be, as well, but EA's genius management soon put an end to that, and so they never bothered advertising it. Which somewhat blows.
And yet another cautionary plea to not turn this into a console war. |
Yes, a similar thread was already made about this.
Personally, I'd like to think when the PS3 comes out in November, that it would be powerful enough to support the late Oddworld games. |
A niche game by a smaller company should have been multiplatform. Period. Saturate the market with the game. Pinning it all on the second place platform was a HUGE mistake. Remember all the threads saying "I wish it was on the PS2/GAmecube." Yeah, exactly. Secondly, the advertising should have been stepped up. How about a little more than say a 30 second commercial aired at 8:30? Huh, EA games? Also, the thing got monster reviews because, well, the GAME RULED. Make it even more prominent on the box, more 8-10 reviews on the back(gee, that would just be about every 'effin' one for the game, huh?), more commercials gloating about the good reviews. More print advertising. More everything. The game was neglected and I think it cost OWI its life.
|
I definitely think Oddworld made a huge mistake by not putting all of their games on Nintendo platforms. Nintendo fans are the ones who like characters that are a little more imaginative and less human. I think they would have done well there.

GC would not handle SW graphics coz though it might be a fun console, IT SUCKS!!
|
Mudoko_Jedi, I think Oanst meant putting games like AO, AE, and
possibly MO on the GC. P.S. Stop insulting the Gamecube. |
At the time none of this really concerned me- I was just pleased to have it! And not so pleased that I'd finished it before the weekend. I first realised all this when no one I knew had the game, and I couldn't peruade them to buy it. I used all my persuasion techniques: explaining, complaining, demos, force persuasion, torture, but nothing worked!
I heard somewhere that EA killed off the PS2 port of the game, so the one person I could count on to by it was not able to. |

Actually, the gamecube is more powerfull than the ps2 and there have been beautifull cut scenes on there. Just because the capability hasn't been utilized doesn't mean it doesn't exist. |
I wasnt insulting GC I was pinting out that it sould not handle SW but oanst said that it is more pwerful than PS2 and I believe him so I take it back.
|
OMFGROFLetc
OANST, you sure know how to pick them. |
Well, just watch what you say about a console you've never
even owned and played long and hard. |
erm..
have you played Resident Evil 4 in GC and hullo back on topic i think the game was poorly sold cuz the oddworld style change a lot From MO to SW PS: srey for my english |

I would kill to get stranger's wrath on the game cube.... and munch's odyssey.... can't we like sign a petition or mass complain for it to get released on the cube?
|
The gamecube would not have been able to cope with Stranger's Wrath. In any case, a petition is not going to work as a) they wouldn't see it as a profitable thing to do, especially as the cube is about to be superseded and b) who would do the work anyway?
|
the gamecube will be dead soon, so maybe who knows oddworld wii
