Who likes Doctor Who!?

Yes, I am admiting that I love Doctor Who. Does anyone else like it?

Lord Vulcher 06-26-2006 06:46 AM

Oh, by the way, here is my favourite villain. The Daleks.

Annouka-BadCat 06-26-2006 06:47 AM

*stands up. coughs*
um... My name's Nouka and I'm a Dr Who addict.

Yes, I do believe I do XD

Lord Vulcher 06-26-2006 06:50 AM

Hi Anouka, yes I like Doctor who as well. My favourite episode so far is The Satan Pit.

Annouka-BadCat 06-26-2006 07:19 AM

Yeah, It was a really good one so far... *nods* the Absorbaloff one (whatever it was called) was a bit... er... strange, don't you think?

I really hated that episode. 3/10 for me. I can't wait till Army of Ghosts and Doomsday.

Cybermen. Second one. I love how David Tennant as the Doctor struggles to deal with it when people die. The way he sounds when he tells them 'I'm sorry', tis fantastic actor. ALways hard playing an alien and making it seem convincing me thinks.

When they shut down the first cybermen, and she whispered that, as a human, she would be getting married the next day. Intensely sad. Amazing script.
Can't wait for the end either, hope they have a decent reason for Rose to leave (Of all the Doctor's companions since the 60s, many have left after falling in love with someone they've only just met, and a grand total of 3 have died. Will Rose become the fourth?)

I think Rose will PERISH UNDER MAXIMUM DELETION! DELETE! DELETE!

Mutual Friend 06-26-2006 07:57 AM

*jumps up and down* I like Doctor Who, I really like Doctor Who! Best show on the planet, and anyone who disgrees is a complete idiot. FACT.

Oh, and I thought 'Love & Monsters' was a wonderful episode. Unusual but wonderful.

What a glorious thread. :)

Splat 06-26-2006 08:22 AM

Yeah, the sad bits seem to really enpower the show more than anything else. Love and Monsters, with what happened to his girlfriend, was intensely sad. Also gave us a great veiw of Jackie. Great episode.

Tennant-Doctor seems to care a lot more about his promise to Jackie about keeping Rose safe than Eccleson-Doctor, so I don't think Rose will be killed.

Also in the past, the Doctor has only EVER gone a very short time (no more than 6 episodes I think) without a companion, so someone should be replacing Rse very soon. If she died I doubt the replacement would be so soon. So unless the makers plan for a bit of a change of format, I don't think she'll be deleted.

Lord Vulcher 06-26-2006 08:25 AM

Maybe she'll turn into a Cyberman?

Rex Tirano 06-26-2006 09:59 AM

I love love love love love love LOVE Doctor Who~!! XD

David Eccleston is yummy <3 But the writers said something about Rose could always come back.

I have nothing of interest to say, I just wanted to whore out the doctor.

I must disagree, its the biggest pile of shite on tv. It was revived because the BBC knew that it'd get people watching just because of being retro/cool and having some famous faces involved. The actual show is just cheesy and dire.

OANST 06-26-2006 11:39 AM

This one time, I deficated. Afterwards I decided to give my feces a name. I decided to call it Dr. Who. I knew I had a hit on my hands (literally, since I had no toilet paper). So I called up some producers and VOILA! A star is born.

I dislike Dr. Who.

Jacob 06-26-2006 11:42 AM

David Tennant was best in 'Casanova', but in 'Doctor Who', the writing is so abhorrent that his acting skills rarely shine.

Russell T. Davies should not be allowed to write any kind of programme again...ever. Nor should he be 'Head Writer'. He only got that job 'cos he's a Fag.

Stupid Equal Rights.

Havoc 06-26-2006 12:51 PM

WTF is docter who?

I don't think a show would retain it's audience of millions week in and week out simply because it has the allure of being retro/cool. In fact, before the show came back, Doctor Who was little more than a joke in the public's eyes, albeit with a bit of a nostalgic glow. Making this show was a MASSIVE gamble on the BBC's part, and it's great that Britain is now making it's own slice of 'genre' TV. Brave executive choices, for once.

Firstly, you do know RTD wrote Casanova, right?

Anyway, I can't believe I'm replying to yet another piece of Jacob-sized idiocy. You seriously think he has got where he is today on the basis of being gay? Grow up.

Deary me, even YOU know that's a load of bullshit, unless you truly are that ignorant. The man has had to work hard to get where he is today, after writing for kid's TV for years to now a series of brilliant drama serials. Queer as Folk, The Second Coming, Mine All Mine: fantastic. Along with Paul Abbott, he's the best writer Britain currently has working in television.

Suddenly this thread ain't so rosy.

Rich 06-26-2006 02:23 PM

The shows main gimmick/selling feature is that it's so awfully crap, it still is a joke in many peoples eyes and rightly so. :p

Many people watch it just because its on during a time when they are eating and are too busy to change the channel. :p

The facts say differently. It receives VERY good press, on the whole. The viewing figures are fantastic. And the Audience Appreciation Index (an average percentage taken from a group of the audience to gauge how a show was taken) very rarely straying from the 80s.

:

But that's exactly the thing, and part of the reason why it was brought back - Saturday night schedules were shocking, the ratings were pretty dire. Nobody was watching those slots. Doctor Who has fundamentally changed that view.

Rich 06-26-2006 02:46 PM

Many cheesy and awful shows do well, Doctor Who is a very polished, well produced load of tosh with some well chosen stars thrown in. Deal or no deal does execeptionally well for channel 4 and whilst I'll admit its just a pointless gameshow, I'll watch it. :p

Same goes for neighbours, thats pure shite, but sometimes people just want to watch shite, I watch it and I'm not ashamed to admit it. :p

:

Well, if an audience chose to watch it I'd say they'd likely vote in its favor. :p

Mutual Friend 06-26-2006 02:48 PM

You've just given two conflicting points there, haven't you? :)

Rich 06-26-2006 03:19 PM

Probably, but I stand by my orginal point, Doctor Who is a cheese-fest and I don't like it. Other people may like it and fair play to them, but when it comes to bad guys being made of plastic and rubbish bins eating people I think I'll avoid the television.

Besides, the guy never even asked us for reasons. :p I dislike it and thats that.

OANST 06-26-2006 03:26 PM

Seriously. What the hell kind of enemy is a garbage can?

Mutual Friend 06-26-2006 04:03 PM

Well, it's a look.

Jacob 06-26-2006 04:11 PM

"Firstly, you do know RTD wrote Casanova, right?"

No, actually. T'was quite good for him.

"Queer as Folk"

Where you quoting QAF as something he wrote, or as something that's good that he wrote. 'cos QAF was crap beyond comprehension, with appalling dialogue (made worse by the appalling acting). The American version was sooper-dooper though.

"I can't believe I'm replying to yet another piece of Jacob-sized idiocy"

Says the chap who believes only the "bad" Soldiers would get the backlash of angry Iraqi's/Insurgents.

Seriously, MF, this sadistic-flirting you're currently inflicting upon me is most dry-inducing.

This kind of reminds me of the time I kept flaming jacob on the holocaust thread, only Mofo has the higher score.

Wil 06-26-2006 04:50 PM

I like Doctor Who a lot. Q.E.D. as far I'm concerned.
