Brain Teasers ...

Yesterday I was looking some logical games to download, and I found one intersting(spelling?) site with mental testing stuff and great visual illusions. .
Here are my favorite samples (illusions)

This amazing illusion is called dancing elephant. Try to count the number of his legs.

When you first look at this, how many colours do you see? Some might say they see 3 or even 4 colours, but there are 2 - red and green! People usually think they see 2 shades of red, but there is only 1. Look closely and you will notice on one side that white boxes surround the red boxes, and on the other side, green boxes do! Due to the placement of these boxes you get the "illusion" of different colours. Since white is not considered to be a colour (it is the presence of all colours in scientific terms) we can safely say that there are 2 colours present here! Still don't understand?

Cool.

As for me, I saw 4 legs on the elephant. I like the second one...I should try doing one of those myself.
Oh, and by the way, you posted it twice.

Dusan 06-23-2006 01:21 PM

"Oh, and by the way, you posted it twice"
I know. It was an accident. Can moderators delete the second one?

:D i never done that before

illusion are cool. Elephant you can see there is four legs. but watch closely you can see more.

second was strange.

Third one confused me. I don't see anything. Colour changing? See than one colour O_0

Rex Tirano 06-24-2006 06:26 AM

If you only see one colour you need to go see your optitian/doctor for a colour-blindness test. If you can't differentiate the colours sounds like you're red/green colour blind or your moniter is crap. XD

Heehee. The last one didn't fool me... But the second one... It moves but then I look at it and it stops... If that makes any sense.

The Spanish Castle

This illusion is awesome~!! XD

Yeah, Ann posted that in Stupid Hobo. It is truly amazing. It's caused by your eyes getting tired of looking at one set of colors after some time, then when new colors are introduced, it combines them. In which case the grey mixed with the yellow and blue causes you to see it in color.

Mojo 06-24-2006 12:02 PM

Here's a brain-teaser:

What was was before was was was?

Before was was was, was was is.

Adder 06-24-2006 12:30 PM

Elephant - this was in my math class. It obviously has 4 legs... but 5 feet.

Moving - That damn picture freaks me out every time.

colours - There's 3... although I thought there were 4. White should be counted {even if it IS techinicaly a tone}

Dusan 06-24-2006 01:47 PM

Well, there are some other pics. The forth one is the most amazing and frighting at the same time. Enjoy!!

Frightened? Of a lady in mirror? Scary, isn't it.

Stare at the dot in the center of the circle and then move your head closer to it. Neat!

Yeah, I don't know how it's done, but it's made in such a way that when your eyes move it looks like the circles move. So when you look at it and it stops it's because your eyes have stopped moving :p

That last one was kinda cool. :p Reminds me of one thing I saw once (but I can't remember where), there were two pictures; a castle and a ghost. The ghost was just plain white with a black background (or vice versa, I can't really remember) and the idea was that you stare at the ghost for 30 seconds, then look at the castle and you see the ghost floating around in the castle. :D

If I told you that the next thing I say is the truth, but the last thing I said was a lie, would you believe me?

Answers on a postcard.

Oh my sweet Gawd, i saw Jeebuz!

Patrick Vykkers 06-24-2006 06:30 PM

So did I!

Man, that Akiyoshi guys good. I wonder how the circle thing works?

Munch's Master 06-25-2006 02:34 AM

Those 2 circle ones don't work for me, and neither did the Jesus one. But the castle worked really well. And Mutual Friend, I believe the one you did is in Cyber slig's signature, that whole the next statement is true, the previous statement is false thing. I love this sort of stuff. Somebody post more!

Slight tense issues... but here's my logic:

1. If "the last thing [you] said" was "the next thing I say is the truth"... then you were lying about being about to say the truth, so I don't trust you.
2. If "the last thing [you] said" was a lie... why would I believe the next thing you say anyway? You just lied to me!

RE: Sweet Jebus!
This is just retna burn. It's easy-ish to make images like that. All you need is to make a "stamp" out of a simple image, get people to stare at it for long enough, then look at something white {normaly the ceiling}.

Oh, here's one for everyone:
If yesterday's tomorrow is Thursday, what's the day after tomorrow's yesterday?

It's Friday, no?

Mutual Friend 06-25-2006 01:15 PM

I'd say it's Thursday.

EDIT: Ooh, the day after tomorrow's yesterday. Yeah, I'd plump for Friday too. :)

Adder 06-25-2006 02:18 PM

Oui, c'est vendredi. {spelling?}

Lord Vulcher 06-26-2006 07:43 AM

Here is a good teaser: What colour is a mirror?

Mutual Friend 06-26-2006 08:00 AM

...Not really a good teaser is it? ;)

Ah well, I haven't had any brainwaves recently and this was the only one I could think of.

skillya_glowi 06-26-2006 11:56 AM

Uhm...a mirror is a piece of glass coated with a reflectory layer.

If no one here knows how mirrors work...

OANST 06-26-2006 11:57 AM

Those moving circles don't work for me at all. Nothing moved.

Dusan 06-26-2006 12:00 PM

are you blind

Mutual Friend 06-26-2006 02:37 PM

I think he probably would of got why he didn't see the circles move if he was blind. Saying that, it would explain this mysterious conundrum - because those circles are clearly a-moving.

The first one you have to not try and directly look at all the cirlces at once, if you focus one particular circle, then the ones around it will move. The second one is harder, but I saw brief movement.

OANST 06-26-2006 02:48 PM

Nope. Nothing.
