Halo 2 is porno
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/new...php?story=9681
It takes effect Nov. 1. All I gotta say is that if this bill doesn't get struck down I'm a monkey's uncle and a chimp's aunt. |
Lol.
I wouldn't never exepcted this would happen I shocked. |
Oklahoma sucks balls. I think Texas should invade it and turn it into cattle grazing pasture and parking lots.
|
I personally think it is a good idea. We see far too many children playing GTA and Halo 2 these days.
|
Not my bloody fault that parents don't PARENT. It would make games that can be purchased now by 17 year olds illegal to buy, possess, or play by those under the majority age, which is 18 or 21. Should a senior in high school buying Half Life 2 be considered as serious as say, grand larceny? Also, they wouldn't even be allowed to advertise the games or have them in open display. How exactly are game shops supposed to stay in business under conditions like that?
This is bullshit censoring pure and simple. If this was done against science fiction and fantasy novels with violence or adult themes nobody would stand for it. |

My parents' parent, and they still let me own halo 1+2, i enjoy, and i don't let it disrupt me :D. Turning it into pawn is just wrong. Sick and wrong!
|
Well this is some load of BS...
Only in America... >_> |

You goota ask yourselves: what's more damaging to a minor: playing a game where you can shot a woman in the face and her brains blow out all over everything, leaving her twitching corpse crumpled on the floor, or a game where you shoot a woman in the face- and nothing happens?
|
Hmmmm... Being a minor myself I should know this, but i don't...
|
:
I mean... Come on... |

It's about consequences. If they're all scared that games will affect people in this way, then the latter scenario would make shoooting people seem okay. But honestly, I've never heard of games turning people into maniacs, and surely it is better to excersise violence in a virtual environment rather than the real world.
Of course, Rockstar Games aren't exactly helping the cause. After their Hot Coffee scandal, Bully is not exactly a wise move. You can bet your bottom dollar that the people pushing this bill have never played games before. It's the knee jerk reaction to something new. I remember that exactly the same thing was happening with Rock and Roll when it first came out. These people were in our position, and now they are doing exactly the same thing. Promise me that we will never end up this way. |
Yankees are funny.

I only read the first post so don't know what the replies are. The question I am asking "How can it be?" How can put porno in it? Some kind of Alien Technology which need human host maybe
Chief Spartan. goes around running amok on earth spying and sneaking. Don't think so, that not halo. Go ramage on a beach with people running wild in their beach wear. Don't know how it all fits in. Brain overload!!!! Wait a minute....this is about halo 2, I thought this was talking halo 3 In that case it is absolute BS. There is nothing of the sort. Extreme violence. What more do you want? Alien blood and gore! I am happy with that. |
You read the article too? It's not about Halo specificaly. They want to put games in the same category as porn, so it can't be sold publicaly and stores are forced to ask for ID.
|
Bleh...ppffft...if this put across. It will be chaos. Think about it, games are getting more and more violent. If this is certificated as 18 and ID for every game that catches my eye. I would be stuck with Bubble Trouble and Monkey Ball. That is a baby game.
|
This sets a pretty dangerous precedent for old bastard politicians who don't understand jack about videogames, movies, music, hell, anything that appeals to somebody who doesn't think suppositories are more fun than a trip to Busch Gardens. They're trying to apply indecency standards to video games. The selfsame indecency standards that have been lambasted as vague and poorly worded since the Pacifica broadcasting case of 1973 for Chrissake! Its because old people are so behind the times that they don't realize this one blindingly obvious fact: Videogaming isn't for kids anymore and hasn't been about children for a good decade. The average age of a videogamer is 29, with 3/4 of all gamers being 18 or older. All this does is punish the single largest videogame demographic. This would negatively impact an industry that employs many people and makes more money than films.

How many games actually justify the violence in them? There's going to be a shitload taken off the shelves. |
I figure this is just a stage we have to put up with, like when people tried to ban Rock 'n' Roll in the '60's. Leave it a few years and the gamer generation will be in power and will retract these stupid laws.

Oklahoma-- Not a trend setter
Hey let`s not get our panties in a wad.
This is Oklahoma we are talking about here. They have a Looooong history of moronic laws. Such as: # Females are forbidden from doing their own hair without being licensed by the state. # Dogs must have a permit signed by the mayor in order to congregate in groups of three or more on private property. # Oklahoma will not tolerate anyone taking a bite out of another's hamburger. # It is against the law to read a comic book while operating a motor vehicle. # Whaling is illegal. It`s a FU#KING landlocked State!!!! #It is illegal to have the hind legs of farm animals in your boots. :D # Residents are taxed for the furniture in their homes, and any other personal belongings. # People who make "ugly faces" at dogs may be fined and/or jailed. # Cars must be tethered outside of public buildings. ( no longer on the books) # Oral sex is a misdemeanor and is punisable by one year in jail and a $2,500 fine. # Anyone arrested for soliciting a hooker must have their name and picture shown on television. # It's statutory rape for a man over 18 to have sex with a female under the age of 18, provided she's a virgin. If she's not a virgin, it is okay, but the said person must be over 16. If both parties are under 18, then the law does not apply. # Tattoos are banned. # No one may spit on a sidewalk. # It is illegal to wear your boots to bed. # It is illegal to have sex before you are married. # Fish may not be contained in fishbowls while on a public bus. # Tissues are not to be found in the back of one's car. # One may not promote a "horse tripping event". And my personal favorite, # It is illegal for the owner of a bar to allow anyone inside to pretend to have sex with a buffalo. You gotta love that last one, is there really a need for any this? |
Pretend? Friggin' pansies. We yuppers, cheeseheads, F.I.B.s and vikings go all the way.
|
I love stupid laws. But what is scary; the law had to come from somewhere :p.
Anyway, this law prolly won't pass, and if it does it won't be on for long because people will masivly go to another state to get games or simply order them online ;). |
:
|
thay mad the law cus thar jelles of halo and gta for being more pouler....
|
Yes, it really gets my goat when Halo and GTA are more popular than local government...
|
Well this is a stupid law. Oklahoma sure does have some weird laws. And classing videogames alongside porn, well, that's just dumb. No other word to describe it. Games that have violence are now grouped with porn? I can understand children not being allowed overly violent games like GTA, but the fact is, the store shouldn't sell them to children or adults with children there anyway. And the thing is, where do you draw the line between acceptable and inacceptable levels of violence? But this law also lacks a lot of logic, as I quote:
:
And as for banning games where violence is the main focus, it basically kills all of the horror genre of games where blood is used. if they really want to stop such games getting sold to children, they should simply make sure that shop asistants don't sell the games to children or parents. What's next, horror or action films will be classed under the same banner as porn films? After all, it's a similar comparison. America really needs to stop making such bizarre and just, well, bad laws. |
No. Films are classed as "free speech". some say games are not because you can skip the plot developing cut-scenes. But then you are still watching a world people have created, with physics engines, backstory, all sorts. Besides, you can also skip out the plot developing parts of films, and fast forward to the car chase/shoot outs/lightsabers. Or turn it off. Besides, if parents can't define what their kids are playing, then whose fault is is? Not the games. And if the kids are actually living alone and have no guardians to do that, then the state should get off their sorry butts and do something about it.
It seems every generation there is something new or different, be it entertainment, science, social etc, and poeople immediately call it the devils work. I laugh at that pitiful statement. There's is a diesease sweeping the world's politicians: CBDS, Council and Beaurocratic Dumbass Syndrome. All the stupid things they do, and listing them would probably burn out the internet. |
