Oddworld anatomy
This thread is for every artists in here. You all can show us any pictures you have about the oddworld anatomy.
I think I start with a picture I drew some months ago about this odd anatomy. It's a steef skeleton. http://oddworldforums.net/attachment...1&d=1149781237 |
That's pretty good.
Steef necks seem a bit large if you look at the spine, don't they? Oh, anatomy... I don't have any drawings yet, maybe I'll try. Can't say I don't need practice. |

Maybe they must be robust to bear the weights of their horns I guess. |
I drew a Scrab skeleton a while ago, but your Steef makes it suck now. Damn you. Not really, but y'know...
If you want, I'll put it up later. Also, based on the anatomy there, how does Stranger fit all that in his boots? Sledom walk normally like that. |

I know. Its still sort of annoying when you're told (or at least used to in primary) that you were the best artist in school...seriously. Not meaning to boast, though. Maybe I shouldn't even have said this...
Anyway, here. I think I might have messed the proportions up a bit, though, which is really annoying. I also don't see how people often have pure white aronud their picture after scanning, but when I do it it comes out like this, unless I lighten it too much so you can barely see the picture anyway. I always tend to have my hand or the side of it o the paper while I'm drawing. I'm not sure if too many other people do this. If they do, how come their picture is still white? *sigh* it's SO annoying... http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/71/...keleton8nj.png Not to be saying its bad or anything, but querying about the Steef skeleton, would it really need any organs between its back legs? becuase ribs are there to protect them, yet there's enough room in its upper body for a complete sets. But then again, the digestive system has to end at the end of teh body, if you know what I'm saying, so I presume that goes through there. The indentation in the Scrab skull is leaving room for a large 'melon' like the one seen in dolphins and other cetaceans (ooh, fancy words!) to pick up the echoes from screeches made. In AO, if you look at it this way, the Scrab would hear you and turn to face you, let out a louder screech than usual for a more detailed/distanced view of its surroundings, then chases down its prey while releasing the quieter echoes again. It would explain why the Scrabs in AO always waited before attacking. Alot of muscle is also packed over the ribs, and when tensed may provide some slight protection, like a sort of stiff rubber wall. I think thats why they still have muscles there, but no arms to actually make any use of them :P The shoulder balde is also for added protection. I suppose these features are mainly for fighting other Scrabs. EDIT: Oh dear, it came out rather larger than I expected. I don't think its too bad though, is it? EDIT...again: I also just spotted something. I can't remember what its called, but the part of the skull that the jaw end goes through should go right to the back of the skull, rather than there, so that there's plent of room for the oversized jaw muscles (Scrabs can apparently break bone easily with those jaws. Ouch) |
Soory about double post, but I have now drawn a Slig skull. I was thinking of adding the whole skeleton on to it. Comment please.
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/3...igskull2ig.png The notches at the end of the tentacles have developed so that they are like nostrils. I have noticed that specifically, the masks of big bro Sligs have a hole at the end, and I looked at an old big-bro Slig mask design and it had slits at the end of the mask, so I rpesume it breathes through its tentacles at the end, so it may help breath underwater or something. There is no room anywhere else among the tentacles for nasal holes. The vertabrae that come after the skull are the attachments for the jaw muscles. The jaw does not protude, it is instead internal an the end hidden by the mask (possibly, otherwise the opening is within the tentacles somewhere). It has lost the protuding jaw as it did not need to open its mouth much at all, and used to mainly talk in acomplex language that involved the tentacles, either involving nasal blowing, rubbing of the tentacles or both. But they still had a large tongue, that could still be used for talking but had no need to evolve into a diffrent shape. They are now encouraged to talk in english so that other races (namely Gluks) can understand them easier (or at all, for that matter). The tentacles may also have been used for display among native or more wild Slig cultures. The nobs on top of its skull, the purpose of them is unkown, but they may help pick up vibrations. They fit in with the small bumps that can be seen along the top of a Sligs skull as well as down part of its back. |
Okay here's my comment: These pictures are really nice :D! Why did you say you can not draw? I think they're good!
|
Thx, but your Steef is still better...:P I need to stop playing games so much and practice drawing more, anyway.
Any other ideas from anyone? Or in fact, anyone going to post apart from Strangers Maid at all? *sigh* |
:
|
strangers maid ill take youre drawing skill and give you my gaming skill.
|
I'm pleased with the balance of mine. I'm great at gaming, but I'd like to practice more at drawing. I game too much, though, I think.
|
I once sat down with books and books of skeletons of different animals and a picture of a steef, and then... nothing! I had no idea what to do. I wonder, do their front legs join to the body by a second pair of scapulas, or another selvis? Do they have more ribs in the leg area, or are all their organs in the torso? Aaargh!
|
I dunno.
...aaargh! |
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zerox: getting pages white.
First of all, it helps if the paper is clean and flat at the start. Try drawing in a sketchbook, that helps. I also scan line drawings in grayscale. And, after that, many of my pencil lines have smudged anyway, so I use photoshop to clean up the image a bit. I also like to play with the brightness and contrast to get the lines darker, as grey is a tad too light. |
Wow your a very good artist I can't really even say it was bad because my drawings looks like s**t so I can't a bad judgement.
|
With my skeletonj things I just really got on with it.
I'm planning on doing a Sea rex skeleton. Now I'm confused whether I should be surprised or not that noones done one yet :P |
A sea rex :D ?! I'm curious about it.
|
I've got a good pic of one in my art of oddworld book, so I'll use for reference. Should come out similar to whale/dolphin/whatever.
|
Sorry about DP, but...is anyone going to post anything else here apart from me? Because not alot seems to be happeneing right now...
|
lets see this searex.
|
Zerox, please use the edit button in future. :)

I mean I am here, you're here, Mudoko_Jedi, Slig outlaw and Bullet Magnet were also here. I guess not anyone can draw such hard pictures. So I ask for your patience. :) I work for some more skeleton pictures. And maybe others do too. Well, we'll see... |
Don't forget me! I've been lurking in the shadows, looking at all the pretty pictures. Just not posting. But i am now!
|
Good! :D
|
excelent
|
That smiley face icon thing is creepy...
I was still hoping for more pictures to compare to and comment on. Hopefully I can do the Sea Rex tonight, I didn't get round to it yesterday. Also, I don't suppose the pictures have to be excellent, isn't the main point also for ideas on how these skeletons would work? |
:
(...just batty. Take no notice of me.) :
