Where are the Paramites?
Hi people I haven't been on the boards for ages and I'm back on. I was just wondering on Abe's Oddysee on the back-cover of the game case it shows an area of the Stockyards where Paramites are in pens, but in-game I see no paramites in that level, but only Scrabs, is my game a different version or something? Oh yeah and on a screenshot of Abe's Exoddus I saw on the net it had white mines instead of the black and red ones.
Yeah, I noticed that too. I didn't see any paramites either. Maby its a hidden level or somthing.
Now I have an urge to go 2 stockyards by level select and see where them damn paramites are.
There are no Paramites in the Stockyards. Their programming rescricts their possibilities of being in areas. That screenshot was made before the final cut was made. But there are Paramites are in Rupture Farms.
Cool, where are the Paramites in Rupture Farms then?
They are in the secret in Paramonia Temple. But I was just wondering why there was Paramites in Paramite Packaging.
Cool, I think I went there, that is annoying me now, how come Paramites were cut out of the Stockyards? Did they replace Scrabs or what? They couldn't have both been in because the game locks up if they meet, right?
They could have both been in the stockyards, but on different screens.
I always wondered why there were scrabs and not paramites in the stockyards. |
I thought that shot was made by getting a background and adding the sillouhettes to it (I know I spelt that wrong, but I can't be bothered to look it up right noiw, so sue me). Maybe it was a prototype area. Both are plausible. But I doubt its the first one, I don't see why they would bother doing that.
That could be right, but in my theory, is that you can do far more with a Scrab, than you could with a Paramite. With a Scrab, you could test someone's skill to use their reflexes in jumping and run-jumping. Both are a little more difficult to do with Paramite. It only attacks in packs and when in corners. That would be difficult to put in the Stockyards. They could have been used for that part when you have to save the Mudokon before it kills him first. But the Paramites would have to be far from him before that happens. Scrabs are also more taller and are harder to get past (You could jump over a Paramite, if fast enough.)
You don't see any Paramites in the stockyards because you go through a Scrab area I am guessing. They are there, but I am sure the Glukkons know the consequences of placing Paramites and Scrabs in adjacent pens.
On the Oddworld Official Website it shows more pics of Paramites in the Stockyards, they are the same areas where the Scrabs are, but they replaced the Scrabs with 2 or 3 Paramites.
there are plenty of screenshots that were from early versions of the game or simply impossible
On the screenshot on the right on the left side of it is tht a paramite????
That's a Mudokon.
Sorry guys but why can't they meet?
A Paramite and a Scrab cannot meet because they use so much data up that if they are both on one screen, or they meet... the game will lock-up.

Lmao it would be pretty funny if a Paramite and Scrab both chased you and while Abe was running he exploded and so did the Paramite and Scrab and the whole screen blew up lol.

What?
In Abe's Oddysee a Glukkon isn't a proper sprite, it is basically a moving background object that says 'Kill em!!' So they don't take up that much space, in Abe's Exoddus OWI have more space available, so they include Glukkons
Particularly since there are no Scrab's or Paramites in the second disk, not even in any secret areas. But then there's Greeters, flying Sligs...yadda.
That is a Paramite down there, I'm sure of it! Scrab's and Paramites take up alot of Space as they react with eachother, Mudokons, Abe, Fleeches (with Paramites), and just about anything they can get in contact with without cheats etc. (I tried using invincibility in the Mudanchee final area, and possessed a Scrab and tried to make it jump of the cliff past the Fleech's and to the Slog. It freezes before it reaches the Fleech's, though. Probably because seperate screens or areas are programmed with different creatures. I notice that it takes slightly longer than usual to load the Slog screen at first, so maybe changing areas affects the loading time slightly.) |
Thanks Zerox(sp)!! I'm just gonna test that Mudanchee thing now!
sp? What? Also, make sure to post when you've tried it and see what ahppens. 'tis a shame, though, it would be fun killing a Slog with a Scrab. You know it would, admit it.
you know, maybe that paramite in the stock yards with the scrab was a photo glitch. i've seen a couple pictures where there are multiple abes in impossible spaces.
I think I've worked it out now... The photo must be from the PC version of Abe's Oddysee, as all the other photos are on the Oddworld Website. The PC can hold more memory than a PS1 game, thus there being Paramites AND Scrabs.
Yes, but why would they bother making them different? That would just be annoying.
