Um.. Edit Button?

Maybe there's something wrong with my eyes or I'm just crazy, but I appear to have no edit buttons on my posts. It just seems to have disappeared over night.

I'm using the industrial skin...

EDIT (hah): This is so strange--I have the edit button here, but after checking back on posts made in OT, my posts still don't have them.

used:) 05-29-2006 07:14 AM

Odd, I am sure it's a glitch. I've never had the option of the report bad post button. It seems to appear on the native skin though.

Well, at least you can double post without a hundred people screaming at you to use the edit button now, ][_, ([]) ][_,

Dipstikk 05-29-2006 10:35 AM

I can't either.

Edit: Well, on this one, I can. But on my other posts, I cannot.

dripik 05-29-2006 11:00 AM

Now you mention it, I can't edit either (I've checked one of my posts made today in OW RPG). And neither in Fan Corner.

Must be a temporary glitch...

EDIT: The button has appeared here too.

SeaRex 05-29-2006 11:30 AM

Haha! You ain't got no edit bootton!

Meh. Alcar is probably messing with something. Some of my admin controls were missing a few weeks ago. I'm sure it'll all be back to normal soon.

Dipstikk 05-29-2006 12:39 PM

I forsee a drastic rise double, triple, quadruple posts in the future.

Just sayin'.

I'll bet he put in a temp edit feature. So you have to get it in quick.

Soz cudnt edit rofl

AquaticAmbi 05-29-2006 04:07 PM

Whatywhat?! Now the edit button is gone from here!

Someun's 'a' stealin' my edit boottons! :(

Dipstikk 05-29-2006 04:53 PM

Like I said: temp edit feature. You can edit, but it has to be quick, because it only gives you a few minutes or so to do it.

AquaticAmbi 05-29-2006 05:04 PM

Ah, I see. I skipped over your second post accidentally. I guess I'll see after this post.

Edit: Maybe you're right after all. Grr, I don't like this idea though. Sometimes I'll come back to a post five or so minutes later and reread it and see a mistake or something. Or, I'll need to update it, such times when I find the answer to something only a little while after posting that I didn't know. Practical stuffs like that make me think that this is silly.

It's those damn underpants gnomes.

SeaRex 05-29-2006 06:29 PM

Heh. I can still normally edit my posts. And all of your posts, for that matter. I rock.

Anyway, everybody try clearing your temporary internet files 'n cookies and such. That might do something.

Alcar 05-29-2006 07:23 PM

I turned on Edit Locking. Basically you can't edit your own posts after a certain amount of time, which in this case is one hour. This is to prevent members from going and sabotaging their posts.

I believe an hour is rather generous. Within an hour another member would usually respond, and therefore you would not have to double post.

Alcar...

AquaticAmbi 05-29-2006 07:35 PM

Have we had a lot of "post sabotaging" going on lately enough to call for this?

Alcar 05-29-2006 07:42 PM

Dipstikk is up to his old antics. He is threatening to delete all of his artwork on the forums.

Alcar...

AquaticAmbi 05-29-2006 07:49 PM

Oh... Yikes, I didn't know it was something like that. *backs away Max style*

Alcar 05-29-2006 07:58 PM

Yeah. As long as the content remains intact, I don't mind. He can delete the images remotely anyway :p

But the content, I don't want gone.

Alcar...

Dipstikk 05-29-2006 08:40 PM

So, this is how it all ends? Humiliating me publically? Guess you guys really don't want me here.

I can't believe this. What did I do to diserve something like this? What conceivable reason could you have to do this to me? What, are you still mad about the whole Wired thing, or are you just doing this to get a cheap laugh at Hobo's new forum? I've been snide, I've been rude, but I'd never do something like this to you.

AquaticAmbi 05-29-2006 08:45 PM

No one's ever said anything to that extent unless it was Hobo. But he says lots of things. Alcar just doesn't want any posted content to disappear, leaving gaps and confusion in threads.

I don't understand why you're threatening to remove your art or leaving/trying to leave. But do as you like. I'd prefer that you stay.

Dipstikk 05-29-2006 08:58 PM

I wanted to delete it so that, if I had actually decided to leave, nobody could spam my threads, take my ideas and use them, or take my art and repost it somewhere else to make fun of me for it.
Alcar is saying that he's got full control over my art, art that I MADE, and that's what makes me the angriest. He's disabled the ability to edit posts whenever we choose, and I can't think of any other reason why, except to prevent me from deleting my work.

Alcar 05-29-2006 09:04 PM

:

Why do you want my threads to stay the way they are, Al? What possible reason would you have to want to keep them? If you were to truthfully tell me that, that would at least answer one of my questions and I'd be less angry about this.

Because you are waging a personal attack on the forums' history. I doubt many people would like it if I deleted all of the threads that cast me in a bad light, or if I censored every bad thing said about me. And the fact that you went about it behind my back. Don't act like you've been hurt by all of this, this is merely a game of "you all pissed me off so I'm gonna go and do as much damage as I can while acting innocent".

As for your artwork, I never said I have full control over it. I said I have full control over it on the forums. I made it explicitly clear that you still hold all copyright / intellectual property.

:

It is your intellectual property, but you posted it on these forums. Upon registering with us you agreed to our rules and procedures. Such that, as long as we are not making profit from it, or casting it in a bad light so that you loose money, we are able to do whatever we want. Yep. Go visit a few legal documentation websites, you'll see that by agreeing to our rules you forfeit certain rights. The art may be yours, and you own the copyright, but you also agreed to our rules.

So, be grateful. Had we had a rule / procedure that says: "Upon posting anything, you forfeit all copyright to Oddworld Forums owners" then you'd be completely screwed. But, that'd be a nasty thing to do. We aren't here to take away your work, we're here to present it and keep it here as history.

I'm "waging a war?" Unbelievable. This is like the Mausoleum all over again. What is it with you people? I'm not waging anything, I just don't want my art here. And I removed it, I didn't "go about it behind your back." I broke the links. If I say I want my art off of here, I mean it. I've sent an e-mail to ImageShack too with all of the art I'd put here that I hosted there, so that should be gone soon as well.

I never said you were waging a war. I said you were being spiteful. This has nothing to do with TM. This is me trying to keep the Oddworld Forums coherent and chronologically intact. Having a Moderator delete over 40 threads is a VERY big thing. It is something which you SHOULD have come to me about. You played on your friendship with Havoc, and got him to do something which you knew would be met with unwelcomeness.

:

I'm not going to be grateful to someone who says this to me:

Well it's the truth. The law sucks when it ain't in your favour. At least you know how much I'm determined.

I went to someone I knew I could trust. And don't try and make it look like I tried to get Havoc into trouble. If I would have known he'd get in trouble for this, I would have never asked him to do it.

Listen, I'd love nothing more than to sit here and watch you stroke your ego, but I'm tired and I'm going to bed. It's 2 AM, and I want to be up and about by noon. More forum drama is the last thing I need in my life right now. My image links are broken, and I'm just harping on resolved issues. So screw this, fuck you, and I'll see you when I get up.

AquaticAmbi 05-30-2006 07:36 AM

*creeps back into discussion* Eeeeh, I really think this is a big misunderstanding on both sides. Too much explaining has simply made everything even more complicated. From what I see, these two sentences are the only ones that the other should focus on as they're the only two that simply state the other's motives/feelings.

Dipstikk: I wanted to delete it so that, if I had actually decided to leave, nobody could spam my threads, take my ideas and use them, or take my art and repost it somewhere else to make fun of me for it.

Alcar: This is me trying to keep the Oddworld Forums coherent and chronologically intact.

....
Dippy, do you really think someone from here (perhaps specifically TM members) would spam your threads and talk badly of your art? You really think we're capable of that? =/

T-nex 05-30-2006 10:44 AM

Exactly my opinion really :-/

Stop fihting, it's all solved now. Alcar got his threads and Dippy deleted his urls :p

SeaRex 05-30-2006 11:36 AM

Regardless, Havoc and I would have ensured that Dip's art never be abused. But in all actuality, it was never in any real danger. I don't think anyone here would ever do something like that.

If there is going to be a new edit thing, it needs to be 24-48 hours. Often times, I've posted something before going to bed, then got on the forums in the morning and realized that there was something that probably needed rewording. Maybe some others out there are like that.

Besides, no one is going to "sabotage" everything they've posted even if you give at least a week to edit posts. One hour is too short. Bump it up to a day or two.

LoboDiabloLoneWolf 05-30-2006 12:28 PM

Can't we have the edit buttons back? I mean...has anyone ever completely deleted their posts before? Personally I think Dipstikk has every right to delete his artwork...I mean it is his...but it's nothing to do with me so I can't really comment. And I thought there was a locking system on the threads, so the Mods can stop the spamming on old threads...

But from a writer's point of view the whole timed edit thing really sucks... I don't know about anyone else, but I've re-read chapters I posted months ago and found a mistake or a detail that needs changing...on the other forums I've joined it's really annoying because I can't alter anything from my stories...

Isn't there anyway we can get the unlimited editing button back?...Please?

AquaticAmbi 05-30-2006 03:14 PM

:

I mean...has anyone ever completely deleted their posts before?

Yeah. Alcar. :p

Facsimile 05-30-2006 06:35 PM

Bahaha, Alcar spelt 'lose' wrong!

...

That's my contribution to this thread.

:p

Matriar 05-31-2006 12:03 AM

I don't want to be impatient... but I really would like to get my edit button back :(
It's because I saw some little mistakes in my messages and I'm just a perfectionist, beyond help. I hate mistakes.
