Music

What's you favourite type of music? Feel free to discuss anything about music and songs and so forth. But don't start annoying other people if they like something you don't.

The Marching Mudokon 05-18-2006 01:41 AM

My fav genre of music is rock, but if it's a good song I don't mind what genre it is. I'm also partial to classical music. My next door neighbour lent me 300 cd's cause he said I had good taste in music, so lately I've had an overload of music. Consequently I also got the new Red Hot Chilli Pepper's album today, Stadium Arcadium. Great album, has anyone listened to it?

Adder 05-18-2006 02:15 AM

You've left no room for Oontz, which is surprising.

My most-listened-to music would be a Trance/Dance style blend.
Most listened to artist is probably Bjork.
Overall, I like a very wide range of music.

oddveteran93 05-18-2006 03:28 AM

Whoops I forgot Techno/Trance/Dance. I love rock songs in general. They don't need to be hardcore to sound good. I actually don't like really hardcore songs because there's too many instruments and they're so loud, the song doesn't make sense. I also agree with The marching mudokon; if I hear a song I like I don't care what genre it is. My favoutire bands are probably Metallica because they have really good and original songs, Linkin Park because their songs sound good but sometimes get too hardcore and a bit of Coldplay. I also like and play clasical music because it's really relaxing. Heh, and I put Hardcore classical which is a rare type of music. I've heard a couple of songs a few years ago and they sound nice.

dripik 05-18-2006 04:42 AM

My favourite type of music is metal. Rammstein, System of a Down, Cradle of Filth, Rage Against The Machine... Quite different titles, but I like'em all.

But there are also songs of other types of music which I find good.

Xavier 05-18-2006 06:40 AM

any kind of metal except tribal ;)

Mutual Friend 05-18-2006 10:49 AM

I'm a lover of indie rock. Bands like Interpol, Pixies, Editors, etc. Luvverly.

Aside from the fact I don't care for the lead single (too generic), most all of the reviews I've read for it are pretty critical. Add this to the fact I find their last output lackluster as well, and I just don't think I'll bother with it.

On the other hand, the new Pearl Jam album is pretty darn good. Not quite the mighty return of the first few years some make it out to be, but still, it's pretty darn good. The boys still have some artistic inspiration after 15 years; I hope to god they come through Dallas on their tour.

But anywho, I voted "rock" on the poll.

There was no "ska" option up there, so I picked the next best thing.

:D

Big D and the Kid's Table? Cherrybing? Dinkus 9? Delicious ska bands, one and all.

I like all sorts of stuff. The only genre of music that has never appealed to me is country. Pretty much everything else has caught my interest somehow. As of late, I've been much more into rap and hip-hop and that sort of thing. :)

Cyber-Slig 05-18-2006 04:13 PM

I'm a rapper, a very rare misunderstood breed on the internet :|

I don't get it though. I see barely any rock fans in real-life but for some reason there's millions of them on the internet.

Kimon 05-18-2006 04:31 PM

Really? Almost all of my friends prefer rock to hip-hopsen. Whereaboots do you live?

OMG NVM

Scotland, eh? Is rap big there?

Cyber-Slig 05-18-2006 04:40 PM

Rap's medium-ish, people who have long hair, wear black and love rock are pretty rare and get some funny looks.

It's more of the internet it's rather rare though. The amount of ''rap sucks'' comments you get is unbelievable :(

Kimon 05-18-2006 06:44 PM

This much is definetly true.

So what kinds of rap groups do you like? The only European group I know is the Streets, and I like them.

I'm partial to underground rap and hip-hop. Fort Minor, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique, and Atmosphere are some of my favorites.

Cyber-Slig 05-19-2006 05:32 AM

Eminem, 50 Cent, DMX and allot more American black stuff. Though that's usually the norm around here.

Leto 05-19-2006 09:38 PM

I like a bit of everything, though recently I'm more partial to dub than I am usually.

It is quite alarming the amount of such comments there are... But you can't say they're completely unjust. I mean, rap was an acceptable form of music previously, but now it's just more of an image boost.

...though I like Snoop Dog.

The Marching Mudokon 05-19-2006 11:11 PM

I don't mind some of the old skool stuff like Tupac but I think hip hop is getting a bit out of control over here, about 80-90% of music videos over here are hip-hop and it kinda gets annoying. I like a wide variety of music.

Cyber-Slig 05-19-2006 11:40 PM

Hip-hop and rap are different things. Hip-hop is more just beats and break-dancing, rap is rhymes and stuff.

Fuzzle Guy 05-20-2006 03:14 AM

Hard Core classical. I take it you mean orchestreal. I like Orchestral or R&B. I'll vote for R&B sicne I'm not quite sure if Hard core classical is Orchestral

skillya_glowi 05-20-2006 09:50 PM

Well, I like classic rock (Queen), classical (Baroque), instrumental and vocalizing (Enya, Kenny G), opera (The Great Tenors, thanks to my dad).

And, for the record, bluegrass makes me laugh and rap makes my head ache.

Slig_Cake 05-21-2006 05:28 PM

damn.

I like a lot of random stuff, house, trance, old school rock, hybrid, punk, pretty much anything but rnb

but my favourite artist is Yusuf (Cat stevens). Phil Collins comes a close second and Jimmy Barnes in third.

Abecrazy 05-21-2006 07:53 PM

Uh..

Where is the button for Indie??

No fair. *pout*

OANST 05-21-2006 08:32 PM

Okay. I have to say this. Indie isn't really a genre. It encompasses everything that either isn't signed or is still unknown. The freakin' backstreet boys were indie once. Now, having said that, most of the best bands around right now are indie. The reason for that is the fact that people are stupid. It's unfortunate but it's true. People don't want to be threatened by brilliance so they surround themselves with mediocrity or downright garbage. If you can explain to me why nickelback gets radio coverage with every song they put out while it took Modest Mouse ten years worth of albums to get any radio attention then you deserve a fucking medal. You can rely on one thing in this world, however. If the goth kids like it it is almost certainly pure excrement.

Thank you, I will return to not posting in here.

For now.

At least until someone posts something that annoys me.

So........for a couple minutes.

I agree with you so much there. Modest Mouse are one of the best bands of the past 10 years an no one has heard of them!

Abecrazy 05-22-2006 01:12 PM

I love Modest mouse and I hate Nickelback.

The lead singer of Nickelback's voice just makes me grind my teeth till there is nothing left but bone dust. Ack!

Statikk HDM 05-22-2006 01:50 PM

All the Nickelback songs sound the same.
I like metal and to some extent hardcore/crossover.
Examples bands I listen to
D.R.I., Black Flag, the Big 4, Testament, Exodus, Overkill, Sadus, Death, S.O.D., power metal stuff like Iced Earth, Eldritch, NWOBHM like Iron Maiden, Saxon, Judas Priest etc.
Besides that I like somebody who can play a friggin' instrument/technical bands, Ray Vaughn, Zappa, Van Halen, Satriani, Cynic, Strapping Young Lad, Friedman/Cacaphony, Dream Theater, etc.

Abecrazy 05-22-2006 07:07 PM

Right on my friend! I love Stevie Ray Vaughn and Joe Satriani. Frank Zapp has some cool stuff but he's a bit out there for me.

Super Munch...too funny. I love Snoop Dog. The Exoddus was very surprised to hear me singing (or would that be rapping) to Gin and Juice one day in the car.

Oh. Well in that case, rap sucks.

Amen to that, though too many people know them only as 'The Band that sung'd Float On'.

:

Satriani
Joe Satriani has some good stuff, mainly the recentish self titled one... I think... But ZZ's Song has always been a favourite of mine.

Facsimile 05-22-2006 08:52 PM

I'm mainly into metal.

Favourite band is Dream Theater. Seriously, I am so stuck in love with their music that I don't think I will ever find a way out.

I also enjoy classical, but didn't vote for it.

I am left wondering what 'hardcore classical' is...

Erm, who is Modest Mouse? (pissed you off didn't I?). But hey, don't blame me for not knowing, blame the radio. METALLICA!!!! I'm sorry.

EDIT: Also, here's some bands I listen to: Linkin Park, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Limp Biskit, dang I can't remember anymore.

Mojo 05-23-2006 06:48 AM
