Zerox's wildlife on odd show!

Well, not really a show, per say, but it composes as much factual information I can get based on an oddworldian creatures biological form and its currently known behaviour. First, I will do the Meech, who's info I posted on Deviant art with a pic of the Meech. Please feel free to comment on both pic and facts. I will be doing the Scrab next, or another creature (even industrial, I will convert them to wildlife behaviour [a in BEFORE industrialism came]) if someone reequests it specifically. Thanks.

EDIT: I derived all this information and based the drawing on the 'official' Meech design picture, so this won't be as reliable information as for other creatures, I suppose.

Soory about the double post, but...anyone? Please?

oddveteran93 05-10-2006 02:55 AM

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought I replied yesterday...guess not. Anyway, keep going this is good so far but I think this should be in the Fan Corner. Not sure though.

Zerox 05-10-2006 09:48 AM

Well, it says in the Oddworld General discussion description something about creatures bioligy and such, and I suppose this would go there, really.
I think I'll wait for someone to ask for another creature, actually, so I have to be more creative. Preferably not anything in a game further than Munch's Oddysee, which even then I haven't played, but I know something about the creatures, anyway. Take yer pic. Please.

Gluks + Vykkers pls

Zerox 05-11-2006 03:06 AM

Okay, will do later (current location=school) tonight, if I have time. Should do.

Matriar 05-11-2006 03:48 AM

Hey, the meech looks good :)

Dipstikk 05-11-2006 04:19 AM

Gluks + Vykkers pls

Someone hand me a bat, I spy fresh meat.

Zerox 05-11-2006 08:23 AM

Okay, I'll try Glukkons first...
It seems the Glukkons may have been tree dwellers before industrialism, using their long arms to swing adeptly through branches. Like the Gibbo, it's arms are very long in comparison to body size, and the legs are also short, and got in the way swinging when they were longer, so they evenbtually got shorter, and may have either been used more like a short tail, and would have been used for additional support when sitting. Since they stand tall on the ground (standing fully erect may have originally been used as a threat disaply, to try and scare and intimidate rivals) industrial Glukkons stand fully erect, and therefore do not use their legs anymore so much as they used to, so they may completely whither away eventually. I suppose the queen may have been hidden inside a large, rotten tree or something, so as to avoid the reach (and notice, presumably) of predators. Using their long limbs, the Glukkons may be quite fast running along (without the constraints of clothes, I mean) on any generally flat surface (branches or ground) so they can ge to a tree quickly to evade a Scrab or suchlike if caught while foraging. The Glukkons may then have even forged spears, and some put on watch to guard the queen, being as intelligent as they are. They may not seem suited to this lifestyle, but they have hands, and obviously being industrial isn't natural for them. I mean, how DO they cram those hands into such small and pointy shoes? I mean, honestly.

Bullet Magnet 05-13-2006 10:24 AM

Apparently Glukkons evolved from octopus-like creatures, and retain some aquatic features, eg gills and suckers on the tongue. I alsways envisioned them sprinting across the plains. The Oddworld Encyclopedia has a good history of them, when they fell out with the Mudokons.

Zerox 05-13-2006 10:51 AM

Um...where could I find this encyclopedia? And is it at all official? I'm taking requests again, and if magic9mushroom still wants vykkers, please ask again, just in case.

Xavier 05-13-2006 11:20 AM

it's the closest you will find to an official encyclopaedia
http://www.oddworldlibrary.net/toe/

Zerox 05-13-2006 11:37 AM

Yeah, I found this before once, but is it official information?

Xavier 05-13-2006 12:14 PM

nothing there was made up, if that's what you want to know
it's a summary of all the official information that's known

Zerox 05-14-2006 03:52 AM

One thing though....how come I seem not able to find most of this information on any other sites, even the main Oddworld ones?
Also, I'm still waiting for someone to ask. Xavier, could you ask for something please? Because I find it's a beter system, and it sometimes drives me to do ones I'm more unwilling to do, such as the Glukkons.

Xavier 05-14-2006 04:46 AM

cause lot of this information was gathered from interviews, features and promotional material
as well as directly from the games and even the old Oddworld.com

if you realy want something to do try vykkers

Zerox 05-15-2006 03:10 AM

Good, that explains that problem. And what sucks is that on my normal home computer, the arrows on Oddworld.com don't work for me. Dunno why.
I'll do it later when I have more time, okay?

Zerox 05-15-2006 01:57 PM

Okay, Zav, here's my attempt at Vykkers...

Vykkers probably lived in family groups in the wild, as their intelligence and grouped senses would be useful in spotting predators.
Like goats and sheep, they only have lower teeth at the front of the jaw, and have a hard pad at the top, and they are primarily herbiverous, with a bulky digestive system to compliment this, as can be seen in their rather bulbous body's, particularly lower down.
The Vykker's would have used their legs to curl round and get a grip on branches in the tree's they live in, using their sharp multiple claws to reach and shear food and manipulate twigs.
A social rank may have existed among the groups, due to their obviously high intelligence in their large head. Much of this is still occupied with senses, likely smeel and hearing, and partially eyesight, but their's is not the best around. The head size and the large head itself may have been used, as well as sound messages, as signals, possibly as courtship and rank within the group (even though a Vykker may breed with itself under certain circumstances, tehy egnerally would have got together with others for the mixing of genes so that evolution can occur).
The Vykker's now known delight in cruelty and sick and twisted behaviour may have been derived from an orginal instinct for cutting up their 'prey' plants, as opposed to living creatures, so that under impulse, they tear and shred their food with their front claws, causing it apparent pain and mangling it to aid in digestion. This mecanism may have helped in self defense against predators also, for the good of the group, and if a few die, the others are still their and may benefit from extra proteins from different food.

I think that worked quite well, don't you? Particularly since I generally start it off in my head. Also, I don't know whether Vykker's actually Do have top teeth or not, but only their bottom teeth stick out and other stuff, so there's where THAT came from.
Any more requests will be welcomed ^^

magic9mushroom 05-17-2006 08:44 PM

I do want Vykkers

Zerox 05-18-2006 03:16 AM

You do realise I just DID Vykkers, up in the post directly above yours?
