So. I bought a PS2.
Yeah. My college sent me this fat check because they set aside too much money for my scholarship, or something like that, and I've been splurging it.
So... any game recommendations? Anyone? I've already got Shadow of the Colossus and We Love Katamari, both of which I'm enjoying because they have such unique gameplay experiences. Wanted to get Ico, but the store didn't have it. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on other unique or fun games that are PS2 exclusive, or just regular Playstation exclusive for that matter. I don't like RPGs or Grand Theft Auto, and I probably won't be buying any FPS games for my PS2. I was thinking something along the lines of an adventure title, or an arcade-style shooter, like Metal Slug (already have all 6) or those top-down plane shooter games. But I'm open to pretty much anything, except the stuff that I already said I'm not interested in buying. |
I've got the first Katamari game but not the second one what's it like?
|
why didnt you wait for the newer consoles?

Zeikio, I wish I could tell you how the two games compare, but I haven't played the first one. All I can say is that it has a co-op mode, and I heard the first one didn't have one. |
The first Jak game was a lot of fun. Other than that I can't think of much.
|
Try Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. It's one of the few game series I played on the PS2, so thats pretty much all I have to offer and recommend :P
|
If you like platforming games(mario, sonic, etc.) The the Jak series,Ratchet Series(#4 is a shooter!), Kingdom Hearts 1/2. For Fighting Soul Caliber 3 and Dragon Ball z bubokai 3. Thats all I got.
|
Yes you should get Kingdom Hearts or one of the Jak games!
|
My advice: stay far away from anything FF-related and buy Alien Hominid. It delivers the ultimate Metal Slug experience with flash game imagery.
Buy it now. Now! |
Ah-ha! Excellent advice, SS. I had completely forgotten about Alien Hominid. Granted, I could buy it for the GCN, but the PS2 version is probably cheaper. Plus, I need more games for my PS2 anyway.
You know, if I were to play an RPG, it would be Kingdom Hearts 1 or 2. I mean, Nightmare Before Christmas and Tron! That's all you need right there. I might give them a rental. Might. Might also give these Jak and Ratchet games a try... although they both look pretty much analogous. |
A game to stay away from, The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge, rented it - I could not play much further than the first level. There is little to no instruction, the voice acting is near terrible, and of course - what Capcom is famous for - awkward and uncomfortable controls that make your thumbs sore after less than 10 minutes of play.
Unless your the type with the lunchbox, socks, toys, make up, dildos, t-shirts to match, I wouldn't recommend this beyond filling in the light spot in the otherwise dark corner of your room where you keep your Hot Topic memoribillia collective. |
I was utterly depressed after playing Shadow of the Colossus.
As far as games go, most of the standard ps2 crap is just that. So, as usual, I haven't really made much of a contribution. |
:
If you were to play a Kingdom Hearts title, I'd suggest the first meselfs. As for other PS2 titles, I only ever really played Timesplitters 1 and 2, and they aren't that PS2 exclusive... So, yeah... |
:
Really, the only reason I bought a PS2 was so I could play SotC and Ico, and so far, SotC has exceeded my expectations, so I'm pretty happy with my purchase. The money could have been spent on something more worthwhile naturally, but meh. |
The ending is.......sad. Or happy depending on how you look at it.
|
I loved the game.
But my heart just went out to those poor big bastards. Especially when they die and their eyes stop glowing. |
The game did it's job, then. That's how you were supposed to feel. The Colossi are harming noone. You are the one who tracks them down and kills them. And for selfish reasons, to boot.
|
That's why I never completed the game. I felt like crying after the first two died, so I just stopped playing.
|
I agree with Leto, the Jak and Ratchet games are classless rip offs of one another who are, on a more ultimate scale, classless rip-offs of Wild 9 - which was fun in my opinion if you can stand the coarse graphics, clunky movement, substantial lack in framecount, repetitive fighting, and the fact that the main character speaks like the cat from Red Dwarf.
Still beats the hell out of Jak though. |

:flames: Some of us are fans of the game! |
Yeah DI. Make me feel bad, why don't you. Actually, I feel even worse for not feeling guilty about killing them before. I mean, the third Colossus was napping. What a shitty way to wake up.
:p Picked up Ico (finally) and Alien Hominid today. Good stuff. And wow... Okami is going to be awesome. Can't wait for that one. |
You should feel bad.
Poor critters. Ico is fantabulous. |
:
Let me go and change my opinion for you. |
:
:p |
This thread has me tempted to go out and buy a PS2 now. Admittedly only for one or two games, but still...
*goes to bookshelf and realises that he has an Xbox for only 7 games - only five of which he's finished and three of which he bought for full retail price* |
Metal Gear Solid 3!

the time splitters series is decent. but i've been reduced to playing nothing |

realy, I loved it |
