Movie Announcement
I have found out that the movies planned by Lorne Lanning are going to based on the quintology..
The possibility of future Oddworld games too relies on any Oddworld films; Lorne Lanning has expressed in interviews that if any games were created, they would be made to be released coinciding with the movie release so it could ride the media wave. The first one is going to be based on Abe's Oddysee Anyone else aware of this? |

Ninjaxe, that link you've posted is a website that only gathers oddworld information from other sources, it's no announcement. And it does not say Abe's Oddysee will be the first movie, it only assumes that there is a high chance of it being the first movie, it's not officaily confirmed.

This information isn't anything new. Lorne had planned to make a movie series from the very beginning.

An Abe film is the film they are currently working on. That is officially confirmed and fact.
Lorne did state that future games will depend on the movies' being greenlighted or whatever. One of the things I find fascinating about this forum is how everyone seems to be here as new interviews are gathered, new news is released, etc, but then a few months later everyone seems to have forgotten everything and when someone mentions it, everyone acts like it's new news. It happened throughout the the development of Stranger (particularly in regard to the fact he was disguising a centaur-esque form and other X-Factor stuff) and it looks like it's going to happen throughout the development of the film too. :( |
People are gonna say that the films are just games that have been made into films, like Tomb Raider or Silent Hill, rather than stories that have been told in the videogame and film mediums. But if and when the films are released, Oddworld and it's fans will suddenly find them'ourselves in the spotlight.
There are dangers with this though. I'm seeing crappy Oddworld toys in Happy Meals and cereal boxes. Exactly the kind of corporate evils that Oddworld speaks out against. Lets hope it doesn't come to that. |
Nowhere has it been confirmed that the movie will be about Abe. About a year ago Lorne said that he had finished a script for Abe but that is not the same as confirming that they are working on this right now.

That's quite unfair on Wikipedia. Most vandalism and obvious untruths on popular and important subjects are ironed out quickly. Oddworld, being pretty much a small cult phenomenon, has an aweful article.
An Abe's Oddysee screenplay has been in existence for years. We can only assume that's what Lorne is now pushing to the developers and publishers. |

I contributed to the Oddworld wiki, however, now when I try to go on it, my computer blocks me from it, and i can't get the blocker off no matter what I do.
Back on topic, I doubt we'd see Oddworld Happy meals, partly because I don't think Lorne would want it, partly because (I hate to say this) I doubt an Oddworld movie would become popular or widespread enough for that. I can hope it'll be popular and widespread though. Although in regards to the Happy Meals, while I doubt they'd happen, I wouldn't put it past OWI-they're a company, and compabies need to make money. |
