What is Uguayis Dei?
Obviously not the proper spelling, but what is this 'Uguayis Dei' spoken of in some of the movies found on the 'Movies of Oddworld' DVD bundled with Stranger?
"Uguayis Dei Court House in Nolybab" I believe in one key sentence that Crig says. Alcar... |
I haven't got the DVD unfortunately, but I'm guessing that Uguayis Dei is some sort of court in the Cartel Headquarters, posibly for sentencing Mudokon terrorists like Abe, or for sentencing lawbreaking Industrialists. Maybe Maggie is head of the court, as she is supposed to be in Nolybab. But this is all guesswork, as without the DVD I haven't really got a clue. Ask Max, he might know.
|
I asked once in Q&A thread but I can't remember what Max said. I think it's just a courthouse like Munch's Master said.
|
I was wondering the same thing just a week ago. But I'm pretty sure the slig says Uguaya State.
|
I always thought it was state but I'd have to watch the DVD again to be sure.
|
I think it is 'state', and I think it's more than a courthouse, because they mention Margaret as the 'Uguayis state queen gluk'. It's likely some sort of division of the Magog that was to be mentioned in the alternate MO story.
|
Or maybw would hgave been mentioned in ME, if they'd ever made it. Darn I wish I had the DVD. But if they refer to her as queen gluk, then I'd iamgine that's exactly what they mean. It could be Maggie's homeground, a court and a Cartel center/council all in one, with Maggie as council leader and posibly court judge?
|
That's a good theory, MM.
But it isn't for ME, it was just cut from Munch when they had to change the story for Xbox. |
It's roughly either Uguaya State or Uguay Estate. The newscaster's speak suggests it could sit alongside the Magog Cartel rather than be part of it, but obviously there's a connection between the two via Lady Margaret/Nolybab.
Crig is a freelance reporter for The Daily Deception, not a newsreader for the Magog On the March. I have to proclaim my love for the newscaster's groovy mechanical seat, though. I didn't spot it until after several viewings. |
You have the eyes of a hawk, Max. ;)
I loved the reenactment via squeeky toys. I wonder if that's the same newscaster slig as the old, considering we all witnessed the former one leave in panic. |
I don't think so. The personality felt different. But that's a vibe more than anything.
Perhaps the Uguay Estate (if it is that) is the name for the 'Royal Family' or the upper echelons of Glukkon society. |
I am thinking it is the possible homeland of the Glukkons or the capital territory of the Magog Cartel with Nolybab as its capital city or center, etc.
|
Good idea Nate, but who else would be in the 'Royal Family' of Glukkons? Molluck possibly? Also, if it is Maggie's resting place, will Sam and Skillya be there, or somewhere else in Nolybab? (As to me, it isn't particularly smart to group all the queens together, one attack from Abe and the Cartel could lose everything)
|
Sam is being held in Vykkers' Labs. I haven't a clue about the whereabouts of Skillya.

^^There's bound to be multiple Vykkers' Labs, orr at least that's what everyone here believes. And I thought it was said in another topic that Sam was being held in Nolybab? Unless there's a Labs in Nolybab, which could explain things.
|
If there is aland bound Labs in Nolybab, I am guessing it is the one that the blocked off Vykkers' Labs door in FeeCo led to, possibly.
|
The Vykkers Labs that Munch and the Fuzzles blew up was Vykkers Labs 13 - there are plenty of others. Originally Sam was going to be in that one, of course, but storyline restrictions imposed by deadlines mean the Oddworld mythos had to be rewritten. If a Munch's Oddysee film beats a Munch's Exoddus game, the story will probably be fixed back to what it originally was.
Nolybab is clearly going to be a twisted version of Hollywood: it'll be where all the Glukkon celebrities hang out, so that'll be the Glockstars. Molluck wasn't a Glockstar, but he was head of the Big Cheese class, so there might've been a place for him and the other up-and-coming successes. |

I know no-one has posted on this thread in over a year, but I did a search on Nolybab and it got me thinking: If the Slig says Uguay Estate, it leads me naturally to this & this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estate_%28social%29 ,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estate_%28law%29 . As a social estate, it could either be THE class of Glukkons or A class of Glukkons, and as a legal estate the most obvious thing would be the estates of the Queen/Royal Family. But consider this (gettin into HARDCORE legal stuff here): perhaps the estate as an entity is a/the major shareholder of the Magog Cartel and as such would trial-ify Molluck in either a General Meeting of shareholders or in a Board Meeting. Hmm? *Waits for several years for an answer to present itself, then crawls into a hole and repeatedly ponders the corporate organisation of the Magog Cartel* |
Gee, doesn't the DVD come with bloody captions. Just turn those on and read the text.

And, no, there aren't any captions. |

Yeah it's 13.
|
Geez, I wish I had the DVD, and I want it even more after reading this topic.
I agree with max from what I've heard with Nolybab being like hollywood, but I think, expecially since it is babylon spelt backwards, that it is perhaps an ancient city, or massive for it's time. There's a pic on TOGG of a city eith a massive tower, maybe that is a take on the tower of babel. but I'm probably wrong since I haven't seen the DVD. |
There's nothing to actually see on the Bonus DVD about Nolybab.
|
I didn't even know a bonus DVD existed. I feel somewhat like a stooge.
