Warhammer Online : Age of Reckoning
Anyone planning on buying this in the future? It's set in the Warhamemr Fantasy universe, a MMORPG based on a war between 2 factions. Both factions will be playable. The ''good'' faction consists of Dwarves, Humans, High Elves and Ogres, I think. The ''evil'' consists of Chaos, Orcs, Goblins and Dark Elves. Possibly more races revealed in the future. The original was planned years ago, but got scrapped. The basic idea rose from the grave again, and has been upgraded even more into the Age of Reckoning. Not too much info has been given away yet, but here's some useful links.

The entire backstory is explained (assuming you actually care, and are there for a storyline and some RP). I myself only play 40k, and still want this. So, what's your thoughts on this game? |
Warhammer online = gay.
Warhammer figurines = bitchin. |
I play both the table-top and I'm gonna play this, but hey, Dawn of War rocked, so I don't see this won't.
|
i used to play warhammer years ago when i was about 13-14 before my life took off. online sounds like a good alternative from spendin lots of money n havin some toss in front of u braggin about his 'evil magic' in some voice. it's not so bad when ppl do it through a chat box.
btw who is or was a dark elf fan here? |
Well this looks more promising than last time. I used to play Tabletop too, but I used to play 40k and not fantasy.
|
Warhammer Online? More like World of Warhammer. Online. Craft.

Sorry, but you're either completely ignorant or you still can't stand the sight of Warcraft and now you don't like Warhammer. Don't like it, don't talk about it.
Buy some of the damn books for both of the games and you might actually learn they're nothing like eachother. And if you still can't do that, read both of the websites instead of assuming that since they both have War in their name, they must be the same. http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/home/index.php www.worldofwarcraft.com See? They are nothing like eachother. |
Look at the screenshots, you CANNOT say theyre nothing like each other!

Oh noes, Orcs, Elves and Dwarves are in both games! I sense a CLONE!
|
Warcraft Online sounded like it was going to be good, too bad it turned out you couldn't play any of the best races. The idea of playing evil looks more appealing to me, so it's back in my considered games list. However, on the case of clones;
Similarities; All the same races, with a similar lore involved. Chaos / Burning Legion. Undead armies, etc etc. There are alot of similarities, and the game also looks very similar. Differences; Orcs in Warcraft aren't actually stupid as most depictions suggest. Except for Peons :) Not too many differences I can think of here, except for some minor lore differences. HOWEVER. If anything copies anything, Warcraft copies Warhammer, because Warhammer came first. But it doesn't matter, 'cause they both copy Lord of the Rings. :P |
CS has it right about the Warhammer/Warcraft thing, as does Goresplatter.
I used to play Fantasy and 40K, but then Ijust lost interest, about 2 years ago. I might consider getting this though, its more about the gameplay for me than the universe in this case. I wish though that Skaven were in it. Giant rat-people with flamethrowers, sniper-rifles and miniguns, what more do you need! (If you don't know which weapons I mean, then never mind) |
MM, Skaven are going to be an expansion race, just so you know :)
Goresplatter, you can't technically say that. Lord of the Rings is a copy of Nordic mythology. Like I said, read the books and lore. They're totally different. Every game has it's own evil force of demon things, such as the Chaos and the Burning Legion. Pretty much every game also has it's own slobbering army of Undead too. I've played WoW for about a year now and I still think it looks nothing like Warhammer Online. It's not even finished till next year anyway, so we shall never know till then. |
Good points all.
I do see where you're going Cyber, you're right, but it basically comes to the same conclusion; it all copies one thing, and they can't therefore be copies of each other. :) Will lizardmen and / or vampire counts be a playable race? Me like vampires. :( I would prefer the game to be 40K in the end though. Like my WH40K army. They're jungle hunters, perfectly evolved, armed to the teeth (literally) in bio-weapons, and covered in chitinous armour. Guess who. :P |
Cool that Skaven will be in. I hope Lizardmen will be in too, they were my first race that i bought (Got 5 in a paint kit). And I believe Gore that you refer to Tyranids? God, seeing all this Warhammer talk and like, understanding it, I feel like a Warhammer nerd again. No offence to you guys by the way.

Well , I might grab the game , I used to collect a Goblin army ( spillzes to be precise ) . It was rather good , with my little warboss inside a little dunny " spilling it all out " . The whole horde is mainly brown. Yet , I never really caught on warhammer , so I now happily have a small army sitting upon my desk. Game sounds good!
|
i started off with orcs but was shit with them, as much as you try you can't forge a decent strategy without it all turning to poo.
I kicked a lot of arse with dark elves despite them being pretty weak back then, apparently they've been revised n are now better. **** i feel like gettin my old army out |
Yeah , not to sound nerdy , but Orcs and goblins are mainly best when you have lots and lots of units of them , outflanking the enemy use to win me all my games.

Even though I don't like the game itself, I've got to admit, the trailer is one of the coolest I've ever seen.
