Oddworld: Our Own Oddysee

I have been thinking of doing this for a while and finally here it is.

I was thinking that with the amount of people here at the forums who are incredibly talented and imaginative that i should start up something.

The something is:

Build our own Oddworld game based on regions being created and new things being invented. What i mean is that anyone that joins could create a region send it to myself or any of the other 2 leaders of the group. If we like it then we could add it to the game.

So in the end we would have a set of regions all joined together. New items or machines could be invented. New characters or creatures, Munch or Abe could have more actions. Gamespeak could be updated, it is us recreating Oddworld into something we would like to see in an Oddworld game.

And when its finished(if it ever will be), we will have an imaginative game all built up. Hell, we might send it to Alf, see what he thinks. You never know Oddworld might include these ideas into there next game. And that would be them almightiest thing that could ever happen. But any way this is how i would like it to happen:

EXAMPLE(this is a made up region someone could send into me, (this is a very short and undetailed summary))-
--------------------------------------------
Bloody Beverages

This is the factory that produces the well known Slurg Slurpies. It is a big factory with all the usual factory items like pipes, machines, security. Also is a new invention included, it is the use of a security camera via Munch using his sonar plug. Using the camera spot the dangers etc.
--------------------------------------------

That is very brief, and all of the regions that are to be sent in are to be alot more detailed.

There will be 3 leaders of this, one is me and they other 2 will be decided on the ability to create regions. The leaders are the people who decide whether a sent in region will make it to the game.

If you want to join say so in the topic and also alongside with your post send in a region YOU have created. This will be the region that decides if you become a leader.

More will come on how to do a region plus more after this post

Alcar 12-07-2001 06:06 PM

This is the quality of a region that would be good, this is an excellent example of a superb region:

---------------------------------------------
This is a massive Maggog Cartel-owned warehouse full to the brim with Elum. Some Elum are are in large pens for breeding while some are in individual cages or crates ready to be shipped off to Vykkers Labs.

Most of the interior of the Elum Stable is a maze of corridors, it would be suicide to walk round a corner without first checking if there was an armed Intern or any sort of Slig there.

The pens are a death-trap because of how closely-packed they are with Elum, not to mention the amount of Elum faeces and urine which is always on the floor as the Elum are never moved around save for breeding and feeding, that is (no Intern has ever applied for the job of cleaning the pens so they have to be 'enticed' into it with 'offers' of free electro-shock therapy from thier pain-loving friends, the Vykkers - they never actually succeed at the job, they usually pass-out before being trampled to death).

The corridors are not quite as unsanitary as the pens, but sill, you wouldn't be found alive in there if you ate your food after you dropped it or you walked down there with an open-wound on your foot.

The only place you wouldn't mind visiting is the Executive Offices where the evil Marlik...err...sits around getting his feet massaged while profits rise and Elum get slaughtered, sold and bred.

I haven't told you about the slaughtering yet, you say? Well, the slaughter-house is a seperate building to the main Elum Stable connected by a corridor which Elum are hearded through in their thousands but, for some strange reason, they are only hearded from the warehouse to the slaughter-house but not the other way. They do, however, appear on the other side in tight-fitting barrels.

As you can see, Elum Stable is one of the Maggog Cartel's most profitable franchises due to it's vast infrastructure of Elum killing and selling. If you wish to visit again you would be more than welcome.
---------------------------------------------

GlukSchmuck created this and all credit must be given to him.

Anyway to make that region even better pictures would be cool and a map or layout would also be cool.

Remember that these regions must be strung together. There must be a storyline to the game and it needs a better name than 'Oddworld: Our Own Oddysee'.

What would be good is if we could have different ranks for it like:

-Leaders (controls and overlooks the whole game, can also design the game)
-Script Writers (the people who create the story of the game and keep it going throughout the game)
-Designers (the people who will design regions, characters, creatures, items etc)
-Drawers (the people who will draw finished designs)

Pretty cool huh, well we will see if it works or not when we get people to join

I will start the actual game once there are enough people joined.

Probably i will start when we have all 3 Leaders.

So if you think you have the ability to design regions, join up, im hoping this could lead to big things

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 06:39 PM

Well I guess I could be a leader.

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 06:43 PM

BTW, this is a cool idea.

Alcar 12-07-2001 06:47 PM

Thanks, *feels congradulated*

By the way if you want to be in it i need you to send in a region design, try to make it like the one above that Gluk Schmuck created. That kind of detail is surperb.

And also the 2 other leaders won't be announced until i have a few entries. So i can pick which ones are the best.

Thanks again

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 07:03 PM

I've got a region here but I only have a quick summary and I have'nt thought of the name and leaders for this factory.

This factory is somewhere in the ocean floating in the water like an island(it floats like those red and blue thingees in the ocean). Here the Glukkons catch fish and grind them up and use their bones, guts, skin, etc. They use this stuff for products and stuff.
Thats all for now. I'll add more later.

Alcar 12-07-2001 07:05 PM

Cool, add a name and more detail, it could turn out to be good.

*Wonders why your the only one to join*

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 07:14 PM

I should have a detailed summary up soon. Hopefully some more people will join.

Alcar 12-07-2001 07:21 PM

More people hopefully will join and im pretty sure they will. This thing i made up has alot of potential.

Anyways Monkey-Man come onto Oddchat and we can discuss it more, if you want to

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 08:22 PM

I don't think I can go on Oddchat tonight because of homework but mabye tommorow. Anyway here we go!

Captain Ulyss's Fishery

Who likes Fishy Puffs? Or how about fresh baked Tasty Pasties? Mabye Bloody Bisquits are more of your thing. Well come on down to to your nearest Captain Ulyss's Fishery for a fun(and smelly)day! First we catch the fish with our 300 mile in diameter nets surrounding all sides of the factory. Then they flow through indoor canals and go into our grinders where we use all of the shreded fish guts and make it into yummy favorites.

The head of this chain of factories is Glockstar Ulyss

Products: Fishy Puffs
Bloody Biscuits
Tasty Pasties

The basic layout of this factory is huge canals and cranes everywhere. There are huge grinders there and fish lying everywhere.

Gluk Schmuck 12-07-2001 08:54 PM

Thank you for the comment.

That's quite a good idea of yours.
Will this game be fully made by us or just fully designed and planned out?

Nice level Mr. Monkey Man!

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 08:58 PM

Thanks! Are you gonna join Gluk Schmuck?

I could try being a Designer, if you like. The main place I've designed is the Great Forest.

The Great Forest
This huge expanse of forest covers roughly the whole Southern end of Mudos, and may extend onto other continents. Almost entirely unexplored, there is very little known about it. What is known about it is that for almost all of its area the trees are so tall that absolutely no light reaches the ground. This is no real problem for the forest creatures, since most of them live in the various layers of branches. The trees are so huge that some of the branches can be hundreds of metres across.
The Canopy Layer is where most of the 'normal' creatures live. Here you will find Birds, various rodent-type creatures, and lots on arthropod things of various sizes.
Below that is the main expanse of tree. Since the trees can grow to over 2-3 kilometres tall, this covers a huge range of habitats, since the light levels decrease and the humidity increases as you go down. A general 'rule of thumb' is that the further you go down, the 'weirder' the wildlife. In the upper reaches, where there is still a lot of light, there is a proliferation of life in all shapes and sizes. It is here that you may find Nokkim [q.v.] colonies, or Klarm [q.v.] infestations. Whereas the larger animals of Oddworld might have problems with support on the [comparatively] thin branches of the Canopy, about a hundred metres below that the branches are so thick that there is very little that couldn't stand on them. Or so you'd think, until you travelled further down...
The middle branches, which are the widest, hold the largest of the Tree-living creatures [the Ground-living creatures don't bear thinking about], such as the hulking Branthis [q.v.]. It is here that most of the Forest Mudokons [q.v.] build their villages.
The Lower Branches recieve next to no light. Creatures here must rely on other senses, primarily Hearing and Smell. The Kitu [q.v.] are a perfect example of the way these animals make use of alternate senses.
Then we reach Ground Level. Here is is Pitch Black. There is no undergrowth, as plants need light to survive. The closest thing to plant life down here is Fungus, and it grows huge. There are fungal growths the size of small villages. They would coat the forest floor [indeed, it has been speculated that they do, and that soil has simply deposited on top of them again] if it weren't for the huge Bracks [q.v.], which keep it under control.
The forest is rarely entered by outsiders, much less Industrials, and many rumours and fairy tales have grown up around it. What I have just told you, however, is the Truth.

****************

How's that? I got sick of typing, so I'll fill in the details for that wildlife later. [q.v.], by the way, meant that there is a separate entry for that thing.

Yes

Alcar 12-07-2001 10:00 PM

Wow!

Very talented writers indeed, the answer to your question Gluk Schmuck is: it will be fully designed, i don't really know how we could create a game ourselves.

Anyways i might extend the leaders to 4 rather than 3, but for me to choose i need more people to enter. Seeing as only 3 people have so far.

And what i mean by creating our own game is: that once finished(if we will ever be) we will have our own Oddworld game. It will have a proper storyline, proper regions, new creatures, items, characters etc.

People should be able to imagine themselves in this game playing it, or to like the storyline that the game has.

And like i said before, who knows maybe OWI themselves might like the ideas we have created.

But like stated above, we will have a game all layed out, just like an Oddworld game only not playable. You could say that it is an evolved fanfic, where all the regions and storylines are put into one

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 10:36 PM

Another region comin up,

Suits, Suits, and More Suits!

Ever wonder where the Glukkons get those business suits? Why from Suits, Suits, and More Suits of course! First the finest Meep wool is sheared off by our loyal Scrubs. Then the wool goes through are dye machines so any Glukkon executive can choose the most stylish colored suits. After that the wool is wove into any kind of suit imaginable! Finally we ship off our fine suits to be bought by Glukkons all over the world!

This chain of factories is ran by Glockstar Makkit.

The layout here is crates full of suits, dying machines, weaving machines, and Meep pens. You can find plenty of shearing Scrubs here also.

Alcar 12-07-2001 10:42 PM

Whoah, hang on, hang on.

I only wanted the one region for now, because im still picking who should be the leaders.

And to do that i need more people to join. Anyway when we start designing it the storyline is what will be done first.

Then we create the individual regions following on with the storyline.

Right now i only need one region from each one of you which you have already done. But i still need more people to join for me to choose some leaders

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 10:45 PM

Ok, I just had to say that one. :D

Monkey-Man2000 12-07-2001 10:50 PM

One more thing, are we going to use the regions we made right now for the storyline or are they just for deciding who is what?

Alcar 12-07-2001 10:54 PM

Oh of course, if the leaders choose to include them.

The regions must fit into the storyline and not seem like they were just placed in there for the sake of having a region.

Remember that we want to have a good story to it. We could even make up a new character for the starring role. And create a whole new area on Mudos.

Whatever we do the storyline is the most important thing.

BTW go on oddchat now!

Lantra 12-07-2001 11:05 PM

i will send in a region soon.

Alcar 12-07-2001 11:23 PM

Yipee!

More slaves, ummmmm, i mean fellow friends!

This i can tell is gonna be BIG!

AbeRocks 12-08-2001 12:51 AM

Here's an idea:

Mutant Meech Mountain (corny name but bare with me, will you?)

As most of you know from Abe's Odyssey, the Meeches are SUPPOSED to be extinct. Well, why don't we shed a little light on this in the new game?

The area could be owned solely by the Vykkers, supported by the funds earned from their various pharamcy (spelling?) products. Upon this perilous crag of rock and bone lie the remains of the enigmatic Meeches. Concealed within caves and tamed by the collars on their necks, the Meeches are subduced to the vicious experiment of the Vykker scum.

The Vykker scientists toil day and night to fit the Meeches with eyes and plant a mechanical pod (much like Munch's) in the heads of the Meeches. But instead of giving them the ability to control machinery, the Meeches are completely under the control of the Vykkers. Floating pods called "Meech Masters" zoom about the mountain and transmit orders to the Meech slaves. They're usually ordered to go out at night and return with slaves and experimental animals. Since the Vykkers are sick and sadistic, they've twisted the atanomy of the Meeches and have given them large razor teeth and a mean disposition.

This is obviously cruel in a number of ways and someone has to put a stop to it. This region could be played much the Scrabania (spelling..) level was played, only much bigger. Since the Meeches would obviously not trust you, you'd have to find some way to rid them of the mechinism on their head, which is the sole beacon for the Vykker mind control methods. But since they're made to be mean mofos, they'll stop you if their master bids it, or if they're hungry. They're fed raw Meep meat which isn't very healthy, so they tend to get hungry for some REAL food.

But wait, why help these creatures? To save the remains of their once-supposed-extinct species, obviously, but they could be of tremendous help. When freed of their mechanical mind prison, the creatures learn to love you but retain their combat ability. Can anyone say Glukkon Flakes?

I hope this is enough.. i'll get into detail about the actual mountain a little bit later.

Alcar 12-08-2001 01:07 AM

Cool idea, your new and already joining things. Thats the spirit.

Good concept, but then i was hoping we would use a Meech as the main character for this game

AbeRocks 12-08-2001 01:15 AM

If he farts and chants and can talk, then he's got my vote for the main character!

Alcar 12-08-2001 01:17 AM

Ahhhhhh, well we could but we were hoping on a whole new character. But im sure Abe and Munch would tag along.

Rich 12-08-2001 06:40 AM

If I worked with a good drawer I could be a good designer I think. What about those factories that were mentioned in AE such as
Legz iz uz! and Azgazco.

moodokon man 12-08-2001 06:49 AM

Im a good drawer I wanna join a nd if I can I would really like to be a leader
