gta good or bad?
 

Me and my friend were having a huge argument over this, do you think grand theft auto games are good or bad? I like grand theft auto games because of the freedom and the fun, but my friend hates it becuase of stuff like gunning down innocent people and little kids playing it, i think its the parents fault for letting them buying it anyway, what do you think?

You don't have to kill innocent people. I like the games, but they're actually pretty hard. My parents always monitored what I played, I remember my 17th birthday my dad bought me two M rated games and I felt sooo cool :) I didn't have money when I was a kid so I don't know how they're getting their little paws on these games! Parents need to pay more attention.

I liked the first two GTA games. Second one particular. Didn't play any of the others, dunno why. Might give it a try sometime :).
GTA rocks for hilarious police chases, gunning down random people, running them over in a car, messing with the police some more, its awsome :D.

GTA + Cheats = Teh Awsomeness

The weird thing is my mom loves to play San Andreas. She just likes running people over and punching hookers. She even starts cussing when the cops chase her, it's too funny. She's like 52! :D

I enjoy the freedom to do as yu please. With cheats it is indeed teh awesomness.

I used to love the old top-down view GTA games. It's a shame I lost the discs, otherwise I'd still play them. I don't like the newer once as much but that hasn't stopped me completing them all :D.

Oh, I've got plenty of reasons. However, I don't see the point in wasting my breath, because people are only going to see that I dislike the game and, if they like it, disregard everything else I've said.

But for argument's sake, here's a reason: it's a shitty game. The question was whether it was good or bad, and the fact that GTA is a steaming pile of shit is backing up my original opinion with a damn valid reason.

True, but the thread would be pointless if no one gave any reasons. Everyone's post would either be a simple 'Good.' or 'Bad.' Contribute some real opinion, man.

It's the epitome of a bad game. First off, the overall design is almost is horrible as the graphics. Open-endedness does not a good game make. At least Doom III made up for it's repetitiveness by looking pretty. Worse still, it involves no cognitive thought process to play. It's just "I put in cheats and shoot stuff now because I can." Please. There are better ways to relieve aggression. And worst of all, oh God, the most non-existent plot and most offensive (and not funny offensive... lame "trying too hard" offensive) racial and sexual stereotypes in existence. Period.

And it's not fun to play. And it's a shitty game.

Everyone has his/her opinion I guess. I never played the 3D versions of the GTA games, and I'm pretty sure Rockstar is trying way to hard to milk out the franchise because they smelled the money. But that doesn't mean it's automaticly a shitty game.
The cheat and kill because I can aspect is the entire point of the game. That started mostly with the first two games because the missions were always utterly BORING.

Yea will it was actually good until grand theft ****o went in and all of a sudden ruins half of my population of friends >_<.....Was it okay to say that? Talking about this is really getting me pissed so I don't know.

... What about if you don't cheat?

I never use the cheats, there's no point to the game when you do.

The first game of GTA was cool,
GTA:London was a bit of the same as GTA1 but still difrent, It had a couple of other cars and such, Bit i didnt like it.
GTA2 was disapointing.
GTA3 Was the best 3d game back then with cool gameplay, Only a bit to dark
GTA:VC Was just the quility of GTA3 but it had a nicer view and of course its a downpoint that they cut out the landplane,but its good they inserted the waterplane.
GTA:SA A very good game, Finnished it without cheats and such, Amazing quility for such an large game, And you of course could swim :)
GTA:LS A very good game, But i like GTA:SA better, I dont know why but the feel was again like GTA3/GTA:VC and not like GTA:SA,

Yes i played all of these and only the first 3 games with cheats :):p

I enjoyed everyone but the best GTA game must be GTA:San Andreas.

GTA is ok. It's not the best game in the world simply because it gets old very very fast. I only play the game with cheats because its funner that way, and the cops are extremely annoying. You can't do anything fun like blow things up on the game because the cops keep coming. I know that's suppossed to happen, but come on, it gets old after the first two times.

On another note: It's pretty sad when a cop car can park right next to you and pull you over when your in a FREAKING TANK! lol

The Grand Theft Auto series is good for a vary of reasons:
It's a free roaming environment
A great selection of cars and weapons
You can pimp out your car in SA
You can change cloths in SA(I think you can in VC too)
You can go through the game without killing innocent people.
In SA, there are a load of side missions to do including demolision derbys.
In SA, you can build up your body(or make it fat for laughs)
Since the GTA series was released, the amout of crime has decreased.
People can take aggression out on pixels rather than other people.

@ Abe 01: Your friend's an idiot. If the children play a game and decide to copy actions from it, it's their own damn fault aswell as the parents' fault for buying it in the first place, not the people who made it. Your friend's probubly been listening to Jack(ass) Thompson too much.

Screw all statistics. They're crap, don't pay attention to them. This chap didn't prove shit by comparing the release of Playstation and GTA and crimerates.

I used to think that the GTA series was bad. I had never played it and just thought the whole concept and things that you could do weren't really good. I guess you could say that I used to be a bit narrow minded about such.

But I have changed my mind now. I've only played a little bit of GTAIII and watched my friend play GTA:SA, but I guess it was enought to make me change my mind and realize that at the end of the day it's just a game, even if some of the content is deemed "inappropriate" by some people. I actually would like to play GTA:SA especially as it's so huge and there's lots to do and explore. But my PS2 is dead at the moment, so well ... one day. :p

I liked San Andreas because I've lived in California my whole life and recognized a lot of the landmarks/areas.

As far as the story line[s] go, the series is definitely lacking originality. The controls are always a bit off, and the difficulty level never really seems to get any progressively more difficult...For the most part you'll get totally easy missions, then a couple of fairly difficult ones.

Also, the graphics are always crap.
