Is anyone get as frustratd as I do at drawing?

THis is starting to make me angry...

I cant draw my Glukkon, Kroenig and Major Grakkus because my drawing skillz suck! (well im pretty good just not NEAR as good as I want to be)and everytime I say this to someone in RL they same some snide remark like "rome wasnt built in day". well the fact is ive been drawing off and on in my childhood and quit when I was around 12 now that im 15 ive sorta picked up on it again but I cant draw!!!!!!!

Teal 12-06-2001 10:10 PM

Sadly it does just take time. I'm 20 now (and I've been drawing since I was about 15); you have to develop a style, which does take an age, usually...

Practise makes perfect. There are always people who can draw better than you, as well (*looks at Alector and says nothing*) so you have to get used to being jealous a lot, as well...

•[cyrus]• 12-06-2001 10:23 PM

I know what you mean i'm a good drawer for my age but I get so Mad when I'm drawing something like a Mudokon for instance I try to draw the body ..... Hand ,mess up ,erase....eye mess up,erase.....foot meesup,erase.......I think I get to much into detail before I draw the structure

Sl'askia 12-06-2001 10:38 PM

I know I do...like when I am trying to do a pic and I am just not in the 'drawing zone' so to speak. I end up with a lot of unfinished pics when I am like that.

The Less-Than-Big Bro 12-06-2001 10:44 PM

sounds like me and sligs. Draw, look, throw away. Draw again, look at, crinkle up, throw away. It takes me forever to draw anything. And i been drawin' all me life(since i was like five, which is like eight years, almost nine.)

General Grakkus 12-06-2001 10:57 PM

Im giving up on drawing... its not worth going through all the frustration and not even geting anyting good out of it.

Teal 12-06-2001 10:59 PM

Well, if you give up you'll never get anywhere. I got frustrated at MY lack of success, but hey. Patience isn't a virtue for nothing.

The Less-Than-Big Bro 12-06-2001 11:06 PM

Yes, you always get something outta drawing, it just depends. I get a great feeling of unfufillment, when i look at mine then at Jessie's. Pisses me off, but practice makes perfect.

General Drippik 12-07-2001 01:43 AM

My drawings look like this: -{]+=|,.;/:?:??{}}

Sl'askia 12-07-2001 08:44 AM

one of the things you should never do is compare your work to anothers in terms of quality. When you do that you get frustrated and lose confidence in your abilities. Don't fall into the 'envy' trap so to speak. I know I had to pull myself out of it a few times. What truly matters is how you feel about your on drawings and don't let jealousy and envy overwhelm you.
That said, you can use others work to help you get better at your own. Like studying how the draw and such. To be honest, I learned how to draw my sligs(and their pants) off of Teal. Learn from others to better yourself.

Black Dragon 12-07-2001 08:48 AM

I was actually in the same boat as you when I started back up. I had always been drawing, and then somewhere between the age of 13 and 14, I gave it up and finally picked it back up again when I joined OF. Believe me, my drawings were TERRIBLE. However, I found a few pages of my favorite artists and started immitating their styles before branching out and developing my own style. This took about... 6 months? And my drawings are becoming better with each picture I draw. Patience, grasshopper, patience! Practicing will greatly aid thee.

•[cyrus]• 12-07-2001 07:13 PM

HahAHAHAHA greAT JOKE !!!!!!!!!!!I always compare mine with Alector's work ( i don't post my work in the forums )And she's a way better artist than me *Mudokon101 comments Alector* see it does'nt hurt *looks at Alector smiles and looks back saying nothing*

Kroenig the Glukkon 12-07-2001 07:23 PM

Wise Abe 12-09-2001 01:47 AM

No kidding. Although its not other ppl Im usually envious of. Im envious of the picture that is in my head. My drawing is terrible compared to my imagination. I spend as much time erasing as I do drawing, if not more. I HAVE to get it just right... but it never comes out that way...

I get frustrated at drawing as well. I'm not good at it anyway. Once I drew something good and I could never draw it again that I hated.

Oddworld Master 12-12-2001 10:53 PM

I can draw ...well i guess ok and i really want to show you all to see what you think. sadly i don't have a scanner so i cant :(

I know exactly how you feel... Although my drawing skill is improving, I still have no scanner, so I can't put it up here anyway...

Teal 12-14-2001 09:01 AM

I'd offer to scan for you, but my scanner is an arse and eats everything. *beats it*

•[cyrus]• 12-14-2001 07:04 PM

I havn't drawn for a while , so I need more practice too get to be as good as I used to be......... I think i do to much detail before I start the strucure!!!!

BigBroSig 12-14-2001 10:02 PM

I used to envy my friends Bryan and Andrew because they can draw so well. Now I've been practicing drawing stuff and I'm getting pretty good at it.

One thing I do sometimes to get in the "drawing zone" is to just get on the internet and search for a style of drawing I feel like drawing (I.E. Anime, Cartoon, and Manga.)and when I find A picture that I really wanna draw, I draw it! Yay!
I think this really helps with practicng because it's easier to get in "THE DRAWING ZONE."

All done.

Alector 12-15-2001 03:22 PM

Well, i've been drawing since i can hold a pencil. But i mostly smeared up the wall with liverwurst and said "Daudia fein, Daudia fein" (<~~ Claudia nice). LOL...my mother told me that...

Aged 6 when i drew my first horse! It wasn't very detailed. Only the lines of the legs, the round head and the weird body were identifiable....

I practiced drawing animals when i was 12, i drew the heads too big and the body too small like the first anime character! I couldn't draw my pictures as well as i saw them in my head...but i never gave up!
I drew the whole day pictures, practiced to draw bodies, faces, details ect. ect. ect.

When i'm in artist block, i draw so long till i get a perfect picture. It sometimes take hours! I needed a whole night to draw a picture once, due to the artist block!

I never get frustrated. When i made a bad picture, i begin to draw another (and they are always better! :))

btw...Here are such great artists! The only sentence i can say is : Keep drawing!!! :D

•[cyrus]• 12-16-2001 06:37 PM

I not supprized Alector your drawings are magnificent.

I would'nt be suprized anyway because the first time I started drawing was age 5 , and i'm good , but I also suck at it.

What?

General Grakkus 12-31-2001 01:45 AM

wow Im away form the boards for weeks and my topic is still on top! Anyways back to the topic ... Im never really happy with my limits. Im ALWAYS trying to do better than I actually am, leaving me pissed off at an unpainted miniature (Warhammer) or an unfinished Oddworld drawing(theyre REALLY hard). But however, im really good at drawing anime/manga but Im always trying to draw better than what I actually can. I think this has both good and bad properties =/

I used to suck at drawing but I learned from my brother who is excellent and now I have a drwing pad on just Oddworld wich is two inches thick. I will drw the main characters and level designs, then make my own worlds with the enemies and creatures for example my fan fics I draw out the places I'm going to write about but you must have lots of patience. When I get a scanner I will post some of my best and favorite pictures. So keep faith,

Together we stand Odd to the End :) :)
