Windows, Mac, or Linux?

I just wanted to know how many people here have these computers. I myself just have a Windows XP.

SeaRex 03-11-2006 06:56 AM

I have a personal laptop with windows, and a G4 iMac. I love my Mac to death, because it's so damn dependable. I've never had a single problem with it; it's never once crashed on me. If I ever get a virus (and I have gotten a couple through Limewire and other downloads), all I have to do is empty my Java caches and they're gone forever. My favorite part about it is the OS X interface. Everything is so convenient and easy to find.

It's funny, because I used to hate Macs. I still think anything below OS X is really shite.

I use my Windows laptop for Word, because I'm too lazy (and cheap) to buy Office for my Mac, and because Appleworks sucks ass. Also, I use my laptop for Photoshop and Illustrator (ironically). This is because... well... those kinds of software are... easier to find on Windows. If you catch my drift. All I'm saying is that a friend with expensive software is a friend indeed. However, I do have a (legal) copy of Flash 2004 on my Mac.

I've never tried Linux. Probably would take too much effort to learn. :p

Dark Elite_H2 03-11-2006 07:26 AM

Yup...yup...always stuck with a Windows.
Right now, I come off'a laptop, 'cause my old computer has a ruptured hard drive. My odd-damn brother doesn't learn sometimes. Now we got'a wait fer another hard drive, but we got'a find our application disk just to install a new one.
But we always get stuck with a windows.
Ain't uncommon, I bet most o' the people 'round 'ere has a windows. :shrugs:

Biggy Bro Slig 03-11-2006 09:25 AM

Window XP for me. I've never saw a Linux, but i've heard of it.

Slaveless 03-11-2006 09:45 AM

I've never heard of Linux or another computer system. But I do have a Windows. Or my parents, have one in this case.

CheeseOfGlory 03-11-2006 10:14 AM

Windows XP, I've used linux and OS X a number of times but I'm way too used to doing everything in XP and way too lazy to learn anything new. (plus I think macs are overpriced)

Daxter King 03-11-2006 10:56 AM

My laptop has Wnidows XP, but the other computer I have is an iMac. I like them both. They are both pretty easy to understand and operate.

Nate 03-11-2006 11:14 AM

I've always had PCs with Windows (well, I did have MS-DOS back in the day but that doesn't count). I have no moral objections to Macs, just that I have no need to go in that direction - everything I want is available for Windows.

Now when it comes to Linux, that's a different story. Most of my friends are Computer Science and Engineering geeks who run only Linux and give me shit for not using it. I kinda like the idea of Linus - a free operating system for the people, by the people but I just can't be bothered at the moment to learn how to use it.

Abe 01 03-11-2006 12:05 PM

Ive had Windows all my life, ive never tried a mac but my friend said it sucks and it crashes, a guy made a whole video on how he hates them http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...63641017&q=mac

Godlesswanderer 03-11-2006 03:45 PM

I have a personal hatred for Macs. Mainly because at my old high school all they had were Macs and they crashed about 70% of the time. And because they crashed so often I nearly failed my I.T. course. I managed to just about scrape a pass.

Although Windows computers are hated for having the fabled "Blue Screen of Death" but Windows computers crash a lot less often than any of the Macs I've used.

Oh yeah, I have Windows XP :).

Leto 03-11-2006 11:10 PM

I lurve MS-DOS. Too bad it's pretty much been obliterated, except for the pitiful command prompt.

I liked it when you actually had to open Windows 3.1, and you could minimize it. So much better.

Biggy Bro Slig 03-12-2006 12:53 AM

Macs are rubbish. At school we use I-Books, or laptops, and they always save to the hardrive, not the network. So we ended up having a laptop we have to use all the time, and they call them names so you remember which one you use. Mine's called Quentin.

Alcar 03-12-2006 02:20 AM

Windows. Will be saving up to buy a computer built specifically for Vista whenever it's released. From what I've seen it'll be a must have.

And I don't care if Apple has something similiar already.

Windows 98SE. Yeah, my computer is THAT crappy.

Nate 03-12-2006 01:25 PM

Reminds me of when I was studying Java and the lab manual had a few pages just on how to use DOS. I was shocked that there could be anyone my age studying computer science who had never used it.

Abeguy 03-12-2006 06:01 PM

I have XP, have used Macs alot, and I have Linux Ubuntu on another,
and, for slaveless' sake, Linux is an open source OS, I like Macs, and now that they're being built with Intel procsessors, it'll be able to probably have Windows OSes.:(

outlaw king 03-12-2006 06:57 PM

Ive got a windows xp and a laptop right now.

Xerran 03-13-2006 12:33 AM

Wow, what's that DOS that you're talkign about? Ive never heard of it! I always use the Windows (I'm up to XP now but I used to use 98 and me) and its really great! Well XP was good - 98 and me werent so much.

Leto 03-13-2006 07:27 PM

Young people... :nonono:

Abeguy 03-13-2006 08:01 PM

true dat, even I know about DOS, great interface, but windows made using it easier, and harder

Cullen Heath 03-13-2006 08:05 PM

Mac all the way!

glokstar 02-16-2007 11:33 AM

I dont know why i respond to this year old thread but anyway... I have MacBook Pro With OSX and Windows, A PowerMac G5 and a small 2.4 Ghz Celeron PC. I use the Macs for work such as audio, video and photo editing and Windows part of MacBook Pro and the Celeron for gaming. I am truely a fan of the Mac. I wisch theyd have Oddworld under OS X... they wil never have it of course.

Munch's Master 02-16-2007 11:36 AM

You just broke a rather important rule- don't reply to a thread over 9 months old. That's why there is the 'consider making a new thread' warning. You should really know better, you've been here 2 months.

glokstar 02-16-2007 11:41 AM

I guess i am sorry.

moxco 02-16-2007 12:31 PM

Windows again.

Hobo 02-17-2007 01:33 AM

Oh wow Windows is winning on this really old poll. How's the Vista PC Peter?

Alcar 02-17-2007 05:36 PM

I'll let this thread violation slide ;)

Vista is fantastic! I love it to bits, I don't know what I'll do if I ever have to use an XP computer again. By the way, I've got Vista Ultimate, so I've got all the fancy bells and whistles on, which is probably why I like it so much.

I've always been attracted to shiny things.

Alcar...

Nate 02-17-2007 11:05 PM

Shiny things aside, what's so special about it?

Munch's Master 02-18-2007 02:22 AM

Since we're allowed to post, I'll add my bit.
I've got Windows, though in my opinion it is the poorest software of the 3. Mac is the best, followed closely by Linux. I want to buy an Apple Mac, but I've not got the cash handy.

glokstar 02-18-2007 02:35 AM

Why dont you buy a smaller category Mac? Mac Minis and MacBooks are not at all bad computers. Photoshopping and perhaps (but thats borderline) audio editing work just fine on them. Plus um... You could always create a Hackintosh ;) Although there are some compatibility issues in special cases (reminds me of Vista). :/
