Will Wright's upcoming game looks so completely awesome.

Dipstikk 03-06-2006 08:25 PM

Holy bawls, this game looks to be so much fun! It's set to be released in October of this year, so I have to wait. But I am so reserving a copy.

used:) 03-06-2006 08:31 PM

This looks so sweet!

I am seriously excitied for this game.

Paramite Mask 03-06-2006 08:33 PM

Wow, from the video this game seems pretty fun. I'll have to check it out when it's released. I'm sure it will be chock full of survival petri dish fun!:) By the way.. The little creature in the video kinda looks like a Paramite, and the little balls remind me of spooce shrubs.. Hmmm....

Nate 03-06-2006 08:33 PM

Yeah, I've been psyched for Spore for ages. If you want to see a better quality version of that video, along with an introduction on how Will Wright sees the game industry, go to http://www.pqhp.com/cmp/gdctv/ - you have to scroll down almost to the bottom. You also need to sign up as well.

EDIT: if you don't want to sign up you can see the full talk at http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...74490184348066. It's lower quality than the gdctv version but better than the previous one.

Abeguy 03-06-2006 08:39 PM

kinda like Sim Life, but way cooler!!!

SeaRex 03-07-2006 09:49 AM

Craziness.

I hear that the game will automatically animate your creature based on how it evolves, like the different parts it grows and stuff. Technology like that is going to make the jobs of 3D animators around the country a hell of a lot easier.

Or, you know, put them out of business. XD

dripik 03-07-2006 11:03 AM

Simply amazing. It's almost like a mixture of game types: a bit of action and the Sims-like gameplay at the begining, then strategy and management. I like it.

There's another game I can wait to be released this year. A good B-day gift, though. :D

Godlesswanderer 03-07-2006 11:55 AM

I saw this video about a year ago (or whenever it was that it came out). I'm not so sure why people are only just finding out about it.

Actually, I was just searching and there's already been a thread about Spore. Which is here,

http://oddworldforums.net/showthread...ighlight=Spore

In which I said...

:

I couldn't find the E3 video but I posted this in my forums about 2 months ago. It's a video from a small game convention where Will Wright did a talk on various things. Including some pretty sweet looking gameplay footage.

http://www.pqhp.com/cmp/gdctv/ Scroll down a bit until you find his one. You'll have to register to look at the video but it only takes a few minutes to register.

The video's an hour long so those of you on dial up will have some problems viewing it. Although, it only took a few seconds on my 1 meg broadband (which I was very surprised at). So it shouldn't be too bad.

Also, the official site is http://spore.ea.com/

Anyway, the idea of the world being populated with other people's creatures sounds very interesting. Just incase any of you don't know. When you get to being a fully 3D creature and out of the cell stage, during the loading screen the game connects to the internet and downloads various creatures (predators and prey) from the internet that fit into the ecosystem of the planet the game has generated for you.

Havoc 03-07-2006 12:14 PM

Looks very promising. Wright always has awsome idea's for games. Gonna have to give this a try when it comes out.

T-nex 03-07-2006 12:32 PM

OMG! This game looks amazing! I am so getting it when it comes out :-o!!
*Is totally astonished*

Well, I'd say that the animators would be pretty well damn involved in programming the life into the creatures. Sure, they're allowing it to change with a lot of variables but someone has to set it up from the beginning.

My sentiments exactly your honour.

It does look grand though.

Yeah. The coders. ;)

But just think if technology like that were to be fully developed. I mean, a program that automatically creates a character's walk cycle would be revolutionary. It might not put anybody out of business, but demand for 3D animators might not be as great. It would certainly expedite the whole animation process, that's for sure.

Abe 01 03-08-2006 08:56 AM

That game got me exited too, i wonder how hard it took to make things like making everything adapt to your character and the eco system.

Scrab Watcher 03-08-2006 09:25 AM

Spore looks really cool. It seems like a toy, only in the form of a game. Evolution and terraforming look like a lot of fun, to me anyway. And who won't love exploding the predators that hounded your species at the start of the game?

[random insert]
And Will Wright played KidPix! I loved KidPix.

Cyber-Slig 03-08-2006 01:32 PM

The game looks totally awesome, can't wait. Only thing that bothers me is the lack of evolution. Cells, Fish then Land, and that's it? Could do with more. And I hope all races won't be animals running around in the nude, I'd love to make an army of Humanoid Monsters in Armour.

Havoc 03-08-2006 01:45 PM

I think there is a lot more to it then is shown in that movie. Remember that what Will Wright showed in that presentation is the game from start to finnish in a nutshell. I think the final product will provide hundreds of hours of fun.

I will be making a furry army of doom! Anthro tigers! Mwuahahah!

Don't forget to send a screenshot of them when the time comes. :D

The Editor in the game looks promising. I mean, you can create any creature and building you can think of. And terraforming is a lot better than in other games, like IG2. It's just a progress bar there, but in Spore it's done in a more sensible way.

Godlesswanderer 03-09-2006 11:19 AM

The only thing I'm wary about with the editor is, whether it works as "You want to edit it, go for it. Do what you like and as much as you like." or "We're giving you this much money/whatever to do this much editing. After that you can't edit."

Nate 03-09-2006 11:40 AM

I got the impression from the video that as the game progresses you'll gain more editing abilities. He mentioned a shop, so you may have to purchase the editing tools you'll need.

I think the coolest thing about the game is that the world is populated by creatures that other people have created. The program analyses each creature and determines what sort of planet it would work best on and puts it there.

Abeguy 03-14-2006 07:43 PM

we could make an Oddworld community!

Nate 03-15-2006 01:01 AM

It's not a community-based game. Other players data are downloaded asynchronously. In other words, it downloads the creatures and then runs them seperately without any real connection betwen the two player's worlds.

Godlesswanderer 03-15-2006 04:49 PM

I took a look around a few Spore fansites and apparently once you make your creature and it is uploaded onto the main server, you get a menu/screen/window that constantly updates with info on how your creature is getting on in other people's planets.

Daxter King 03-15-2006 07:02 PM

Looks like a really cool game. Too bad I'll have to upgrade my computer big time if I want to play it.:(

Godlesswanderer 03-15-2006 07:57 PM

As will I. :(
