It'll never happen to me!

Are you one of those people who ride a motorbike and think, "I'll never crash. it'll never happen to me!"
I'm not. I bashed my head last night and I thought that I would get brain damage. My head still hurts now.

Dipstikk 03-03-2006 10:38 AM

Ouch! My dad once crashed his motorcycle, and the crash sliced his leg up really bad. The doctors could save it, but he's still got a huge scar on his leg.

And after all that, he STILL loves Harleys. Well, actually, I don't blame 'im. *makes engine-revving noises*

Havoc 03-03-2006 10:48 AM

Im that kinda person. Mostly because I live my life carefully without taking risks :P.

Scrab Watcher 03-03-2006 01:52 PM

My own Pappy crashed his motorbike when I was about three and he had to get surgery done on his head. He's got a metal plate in there now and one of his eyebrows doesn't move. It actually looks rather cool when he raises his working eyebrow, and the scar (which I've never noticed myself) can apperantly look darn intimidating to louts hanging around outside out house. Recently, his bike just span out of control. He ended up bruised and sore. The road was oily and the bike just skidded. I think he'll be selling it on.

Me? I'm expecting to fall off something. Most likely a horse. I've been horse riding for about two years or so and I still haven't come off yet. The closest was when I went off balance over a jump and ended up hanging off the horses neck waiting for him to stop. But I didn't actually fall off. So no, I'm expecting (though not wanting) 'it' to happen to me.

EDIT: Forgot a 'v'

outlaw king 03-03-2006 02:04 PM

Yeah , i was riding my horse once , and i took the risk of braking it into a full gallop , so i lost my balance , fell of , and landed on a electric fence . scared the sh*t outta me.

Biggy Bro Slig 03-03-2006 02:46 PM

This is turning into a Accidents thread. I like it!
I accidently touched an electric fence aswell at this place called the Venture Centre. I felt the shock go right through me.

Havoc 03-03-2006 02:48 PM

In all honesty, I can not remember any freak stuff accidents happening to me which I thought would never happen to me. I never crashed a bike or car, never touched an electric fence, ect. Maybe it's because I think before I act, I dunno.

Biggy Bro Slig 03-03-2006 02:53 PM

I broke my elbow, gashed my head and blood was everywhere, nearly broke my ankle, banged my head the other day as I stated beforehand, sliced open my finger today. Luck doesn't seem to like me anymore.

Slaveless 03-03-2006 03:00 PM

I'm not that kind of person. I once tried to be a speed devil and wasn't able to stop and flew off my bike once I hit a curve. I don't know what the people who owned the land felt of having a guy thinking he had a broken leg and moaned for 5 minutes straight.

Havoc 03-03-2006 03:20 PM

I remember doing some dangerous stuff when I was younger actualy. Me and a friend were roller skating in a public garage of a mall. At one point, we came to this ledge that went from the first level to the second level. It was pretty steep, but we thought it would be awsome to go down.
But... I went down a lot faster then I anticipated, and I was lucky a car didn't round the corner, or I wouldn't be typing this right now. And for some reason, I didn't lose my balance and allowed myself to smack into a wall to get to a stop. Except for some painfull hands, that was actualy pretty awsome... but yea it could have ended very very ugly.

I guess I take the easier route more than the safer. I had a friend that lived next door to me, and we would always go to the other side of town by crossing a long train bridge, at first I was worried that a train would blow us to bits, but I later developed a confidence in the train bridge. I walk through other geographically dangerous areas to reach my destination.

Nate 03-03-2006 04:24 PM

I'd never ride a motor cycle because I know I'd fall off sooner or late, being the clutz that I am. I figure it's best to be in crumple-zoned comfort.

I am totally uncoordinated. I've got scars all over my hands from bumping into stuff or scratching myself on stuff. I once managed to drive a rusty spike into my ankle, piercing a tendon. Then about a week later I was in a jetskiing accident that left me with major internal bruising - though that one wasn't actually my fault.

AquaticAmbi 03-03-2006 07:47 PM

Actually, I'm the type who always imagines the all possibilities, including the worst... Heh, especially the worst. I was just having a conversation with someone about if I died in a plane crash or scuba diving during a trip I'm taking this summer. I told her that if I did die and there is an afterlife, for her not to be too sad as I'll be chuckling at the irony of our big discussion and stuff.

I'm always thinking of the worst, Like "But what if the train crashes?!" I worry alot. :p

Abeguy 03-03-2006 08:30 PM

i've fallen out of a tree, got the wind knocked out of me. Electricuted plenty :D and have had numerous near painful experiances, and sliced my finger yesterday  crashed my little brothers bike once, gotten a faceplant in the concrete, asphalt rather. fallen on Barnacles as a kid, cut my nose and got a scar, bit by the dog on the nose and got another scar on the other side of my nose.

outlaw king 03-03-2006 09:25 PM

Boy , abeguy , youve been munted heaps!

When it comes to my accidents , I have never broken any bones , never spraigned anything , I have had a few horseriding injuries ( I got dragged behind one once ) and i once tripped on a tredmill , got stuck between the conveyor and a chair , and had most of my skin burnt like hell , but other than that , a clean bill of health.

Oh yeah , and i got stitches once on my nose , cos i drew a picture of crash bandicoot on it in permanent marker.

I'm expecting for something else to happen today. Like I trip up down the stairs or something.

Godlesswanderer 03-04-2006 05:29 AM

I usually think things will never happen to me. I regularly play with kitchen knives just cutting stuff up (fruits and stuff, not people :)). I used to play with fire a lot until this happened...

http://oddworldforums.net/attachment...tid=4114&stc=1

Which ended up in this...

http://oddworldforums.net/attachment...tid=4115&stc=1
(Taken a few weeks after I could take the bandage off)

2nd and 3rd degree burns FTL :(.

Biggy Bro Slig 03-04-2006 05:35 AM

Ouch! That must of hurt!

P.S: I was right. I banged my hand on the wall today.

Godlesswanderer 03-04-2006 06:40 AM

It hurt A LOT. About 2 hours after it happened I passed out on the couch from the pain. Still being in shock it didn't occur to me to call someone or call 999 in that time.

It was seriously the most amount of pain I've ever been in in my life. I was in almost constant pain for weeks. Not to mention when I had to move my hand every day to stop the skin from healing tight. Which would have stopped me from being able to close my hand. So basically, every day I had to intentionally split my skin by closing my hand to a fist.

I know what you mean, when I was camping with a freind when I was 11, we decided to get a big bucket of water to put out the fire, now I didn't know thermodynamics (or whatever you call them) back then. So I ended up with a averagly sized 3rd degree stram burn on my hand. About a month later I was healed. It hurt like hell, I have to tell ya. The mark vanished sometime last year.

Also Godless, I remember that! You couldn't make siggies those woesome days.

Fuzzleman54321 03-04-2006 07:30 AM

I was that kinda person. I thought when i was younger on my motorbike "Ill never crash!" 10 mins later...an ambulence. I broken both my arms, and 1 leg.

Dark Elite_H2 03-04-2006 08:05 AM

If this is some superstition-type thing, I really don't believe in bad luck.
But, I can be aperson that will say, "Oh crap...something like that'll happen to me! But when"
I think of the problem, and go forward.
It's like the bird flu.
If it turns in to a human virus, I keep thinkin' it'll get to me, because it'll spread to thousands of millions of people in the US.

Godlesswanderer 03-04-2006 10:01 AM

Hehe, there's not thousands of millions of people in the US. There's only about 300 mil. Just thought I should tell ya ;).

mitsur 03-04-2006 12:48 PM

I'm not one of those kind of people. You'd have to be pretty stupid not to wear protective gear when wearing a motorcycle.

To all the people out there who think that:

THE GROUND IS INDEED HARDER THAN YOUR HEAD.

outlaw king 03-04-2006 02:07 PM

Ouch! godlesswandere , you had to split your SKIN??!! that sounds disgusting! Anyways , after my conveyor belt incident , I couldnt move for 3 days , my skin had become more of a sortof crust , and i had to try and stop peeling it of , it was very tempting to do so! Luckily , my skin has never been softer now!

Coolmanbizkit 03-04-2006 02:28 PM

:

No, he had to clench his fist to loosen the skin that had healed tight. Which (because it was tight) split his skin.

outlaw king 03-04-2006 02:35 PM

Oh i see! still sounds bloody painful! Ive never been burnt before , apart from the traedmill incident. I hope i never get burnt!

Of course , i probably will , cos i like burning stuff myself!:D

I accidently touched an electric fence aswell at this place called the Venture Centre. I felt the shock go right through me.

I did the same once. I was watching my sister ride a horse around a pasture, and when the horse tripped, I grabbed the electric wire meant to keep horses in the pen without thinking. It shocked me really bad, and left a big red mark on my skin for the day. I found out later it was about 5v that shocked me.

Nate 03-04-2006 04:47 PM

It's not the voltage that's dangerous, it's the current. Some tasers have like 50,000volts but at very low current so it doesn't kill you - just hurts like hell. But 1 amp on wet skin can kill you.
