S'mo bs, bs? Slig language?

Hey people, sorry if this has been posted before (i used the search, came up with nothing), but does anyone know what the slig sounds mean? As in, S'mo Bs and Bs.

First I figured that they could be 'Yes' and 'No', as this is how they answer to Glukkon orders on AO and AE. I thought that maybe S'mo Bs was short for 'Just a moment Boss' but this leaves a gap in the other one, Bs. It also didn't make much sense with pretty much saying (before beating a mudokon) YES NO YES YES YES NO YES! *whack whack* (which I always love the sound of, muahaha :))
S'mo bs sounds like a little cackle, or some sort of ribbit. Bs just sounds like a low buzzing noise. It could be slig words, but I don't see how the beating thing makes sense still. Any ideas on this one?

Havoc 03-01-2006 12:42 PM

I think it's just a set of noises they gave to the sligs without them realy meaning anything. They can speak normal English, so I would imagine their native sounds they made back in the jungle to communicate with each other.

Coolmanbizkit 03-01-2006 12:59 PM

Imtimidating noises maybe? Or Taunts? Could be, Like "You dont deserve to live" *whack whack*

Havoc 03-01-2006 01:25 PM

Hm... no I don't think they would also tell the Glukkons that XD.

BS stands for "bull shit." So thats basically their way of giving someone bs as an insult.

I think S'mo is just another insult in slig culture.

Dave 03-01-2006 01:52 PM

Used beat me to it.
I was gonna say that.
But I think that S'mo is a shortened way of saying "some more," and maybe they couldn't write "Some More BS" on the screen without making it look sloppy, so they wrote "s'mo bs."

EDIT: Look at the slig gamespeak screen. The format prevents much more than what they wrote.

fatmanintweed 03-01-2006 01:52 PM

Could "S'mo" be "some more"?

Gah, edit: Beaten to it too.

SLIG_ODD 03-01-2006 05:14 PM

i think BS and S'MO BS mean a number of things ... i think sometimes it means "yes" or "no" ... i think sometimes its cussing at someone ... but all i know, its not a one word thing
"BS, BS, S'MO BS, BS, S'MO BS, S'MO BS, BS" *whack**whack* -- this my be cussing at a mud
"do it" "BS" -- that could be yes when Sligs is talking to Glukkons

My point is that "S'MO BS" and "BS" has do direct meaning

OR

like Havoc said ... i could be just a sound ... then again it goes hand in hand with what i said

Abeguy 03-01-2006 08:05 PM

yes, you could be a sound, SLIG ODD. you may not even be human, but a sound. goodbye

SLIG_ODD 03-01-2006 08:10 PM

Would you stop spamming in here, you tard?

mk-ultra.net 03-02-2006 08:11 AM

there was actually a reason for having slig speech on the PS games, on much oddysee however, the slig speech is just there for affects to brainwash US!. also there are no slig voice boxes, that makes much oddysee crap in affects to slig speech.

mk-ultra.net 03-02-2006 08:13 AM

also the sligs on munch oddeysee can speak english, compared to the sligs on the PS games, wich were just there for affect

I always thought BS and S'mo BS were some kind of morse code...

Xavier 03-02-2006 09:04 AM

"Bs" and "S'mo Bs" were translated by "merde" and "quelle merde" in the french booklet if I remember correctly (I'm not at home right now)

those can be translated by "Shit" and "What a Shit"

But sligs could speak english in AE and in AO. And I always thought BS and Smo' BS meant the sligs were either laughing or cursing.

Viper45 03-02-2006 05:55 PM

Instead of being a translation of what they're saying, it could also be seen as just a title/description of it. It's an indecipherable sound to us... so in other words, it's just a bunch of BS. Of course, that would make the second sound, some more BS.

Nate 03-02-2006 05:57 PM

I always figured them as sounds to communicate what they sligs are feeling without words, kinda like how a dog pants, whines or howls. Or even how humans laugh, groan or sigh.

outlaw king 03-02-2006 06:07 PM

Perhaps a wicked cackle of success and feel of self achievment? They do do it when they kill you aswell , so they are probably laughing or something like that . something like " Yeah , thats right " or " Thats what you get when you mess with a slig "

Xavier 03-03-2006 01:23 AM

since they were translated by "shit" and "what a shit" I think they originally meant "Bullshit" and "some more Bullshit", the slig would be swearing the whole time.

Sekto Springs 03-04-2006 03:38 PM

It's just "Some more bullshit". Oddworld has a tendency to use that ghetto-style lingo, for example; sligs in MO seem to have that ghetto nuance when they speak ("You stank, brutha!"). Even with Abe the same ring exists ("Dude, wassup wit dat?"). They aren't saying the sligs are swearing by calling it bullshit, they're just saying that it's just bullshit - meaning it has no real significance. Just slig sounds.

In MO the story is a bit different because when sligs break out in casual conversation, it's a muddled bunch of unintelligible jargon and only a view audible words make sense; "chump". Regardless, it's still bullshit, at least to our ears.

metroixer 03-05-2006 03:27 PM

Thing is one of the things that made the 2-d sligs special to me was that they had a special language that I could not understand(at the time), in game. Now hearing them saying english stuff all the time in MO (and some bad phrases may I add. I did not like some.) kinda made me bored for a while.

*remembers making a beat with BS smo'Bs and other slig language words in AE* hehe.

Sligs in the old game were a lot more animalistic in speech. The word 'freeze' sounded more like "fweep!" Along with those toad/cricket-like gargles and robotic murmers.

Take into account the mask which most likely plays a part in the Sligs' unintelligibility. The words are muffled, they almost sound like they're being projected through a built in sound system.
Sligs voices always reminded me of throat cancer victims, how they have to hold a vibration amplification microphone to their gullets to make audible speech. Perhaps Sligs have the same sort of problem, only it's a genetic trait. The same type of microphone is built into the mask and tucked deep behind the mass of tendrils sticking out of their face.

toxicity 03-23-2006 06:22 PM

The slig sounds are slig swear words I think.

Ninjaxe 03-25-2006 10:24 AM

Create a bit of side tracking while i was reading this forum. Are big bro sligs adult hood of a slig? or have they been given a growth serum?

No, they've been pumped full o' steroids.

Slaveless 03-25-2006 10:31 AM

They've been given steriods. It's not nartural for a slig to be that big. So yeah, growth in a slig is not genetic.

Munch's Master 03-25-2006 10:40 AM

Big Bro Sligs have been filled with steroids by Vykkers. I always thuoght BS and s'mo BS meant bullshit and some more bullshit, pretty much as Sekto Springs said earlier.

Wil 03-25-2006 11:50 AM

They are described as soldier-class Slig, and in the super species model that Sligs belong to (one queen and thousands of workers), it's not uncommon to find a solder class naturally. Perhaps there are actual soldier-class Sligs, but worker-class Sligs can be beefed into this rôle with steroid injections. This would be cheaper if Skillya charged more for her soldier-class offspring.
