Glitches of Oddworld

Hello all, I am a new forum meber, but an Oddworld fan since 1997.
Have you ever had any wierd giltches while playing an Oddworld game(including the gameboy ones)? If you have, feel free to list them. Tell about any of the craziest or minor glitches you came accross while playing Oddworld. I'll go ahead and start this off:
In Oddowrld Adventures 1 for game boy, when you posess a slig that can be dropped to the same level as Abe, shoot yourself. Abe will disolve into goop. The regular death sound will be heard, but you still have control of the slig. Quickly explode the Slig before the screen fades to another life. You will then here the sound of Abe laughing. Then the goopy stiff that's left of Abe will have a little glitchy pixely spazm with the death sound heard again. it's pointless, but it's an amusing glitch. It might only happen on mine since I bought it used. See you later.

Hello, welcome to the Oddworld Forums!
Hope your stay here is a pleasent one!

Next time, please use the search engine, up at the top. There are already two other topics exactly like this one, so you probably wont get many responses.

Paramite Mask 02-13-2006 08:22 PM

Oh, sorry about that. I'll read the FAQ more and use the search engine. i didn't really notice it. I'll try to keep my stay here as pleasant as possible. Thanks for the advice.

Cullen Heath 02-13-2006 08:55 PM

Sure no problem, just remember to have a good stay here and try not to break the rules (Not that I'm accusing you at all, we all do it when we are new to places).
If you have a question about Oddworld, that can be answered very easily, you can ask it in the Oddworld Q&A thread.

LoboDiabloLoneWolf 02-14-2006 12:47 AM

Hey Cullen? How old are the other glitch threads? Ain't they too old to reply too or something? :fuzconf:

Anyway, in Stranger's Wrath there's a glitch, well it's actually more a mistake but that counts right? Anyway, in the opening movie - when Stranger's luring in Blisterz Booty - you can tell he's go a red shirt on underneath his armour, but during the game it's green...

I dunno about you guys but Stranger doesn't come across as the most hygenic person and therefore wouldn't have an extra shirt... :D

Welcome to the forums.
well glitches are often discussed indeed, but that's not a problem.
you can nicely carry on here.

Slaveless 02-14-2006 11:34 AM

Oh there is a bunch of glitches to discuss.
I know this was already discussed, but in AE, in the Slig Barracks, in the screen with 2 depressed mudokons, if you possess one of the sligs at a certain time, when one of them shoots at the possessed, the possessed shrinks down, instead of dying first. Also, in second hub of SoulStorm Brewery, there is usually a misplaced blinker. It gives no interverance though.

In AO, sometimes sligs don't stop walking and go off an edge or hit a bomb. I found this mostly happen in one of the Stockyard secrets. Also in AO, if your quick enough, you can touch a flying droid bomb and not die. Oh and once in Scrabanian Temple, in the level that's to the right on the lower level of the enterance, I found something interesting. One time, the 2 scrabs actually noticed each other and killed each other, even though there was a wall between them. That's all I can say. See ya. ;)

That isn't a glitch, that is supposed to happen so if you are good at the game and like to screw around with Sligs, you can jump right over it but the Slig will run into it. Actually, this strategy is needed to beat the game.

Slaveless 02-14-2006 02:32 PM

No I meant that the sligs aren't chasing you and they kill themself any way.

used:) 02-14-2006 02:34 PM

Well think about it, thse are Sligs, they are not the most of intelligent life on oddworld, ranging pretty close to retarded at times. So this isn't so unusual when you take a look at the information.

Slaveless 02-14-2006 03:51 PM

Hmm, makes sense. For a second, I thought something was wrong with the coding. Maybe this was really programmed in the game. *Sees Lorne whistling*

Wil 02-14-2006 04:51 PM

I doubt it. They are probably slight glitches in the Sligs' paths. I don't think OWI programmed any enemies to commit suicide spontaneously (not including the occassions when Abe alters the environement as Cullen has already mentioned).

FuzzleByte01 02-14-2006 05:21 PM

I think that it might actually be intended. If you have Abe make a sound just as the Slig is nearing the edge, the Slig will walk right off. If you're timing is good, it happens every single time. There's one secret area in the Stockyards (I think it's the very first one you can reach) where this comes in handy. (It's on the area where there is a bomb, a pacing Slig, and two Mudokons on the top level, and a pacing Slig and a couple gaps on the bottom.) I always try to trick the one on the bottom into falling so that he'll be out of the way. In other places, I've had a possessed Slig do it to another Slig.

Paramite Mask 02-14-2006 05:44 PM

I didn't know that.

Huh, I've never thought of that technique of using gamespeak or some other noise when a pacing slig reaches an edge. In the Stock yard two - level green red bomb secret area with the 2 pacing sligs, I just sneak past the bottom slig after saving the others. I'll try out the falling slig thing while I try to get the 300 muds on my own in AE, if it works in it. There was one time when I played AO in a secret area in the beginning rupture farms part. It was the secret are when you stand on an edge. Below you is a lever floor trap, a anti - chant sensor, and a pacing slig. Theree's a hidden Mud area under there with two floors, one with a Slig gaurding a Mud and the bottom with two muds gaurded by a slig with a mine next to the sig. When I jumped up to clear for a misthrown bomb I threw close enough to kill me, I saw the Slig walk in to the mine when I changed screens. It happened randomly, I don't know why it happened.

Yes, I love to use this. It is because the Sligs get feaked out by Abe's voice and run in the nearest direction.

FuzzleByte01 02-15-2006 10:10 AM

The ones I'm talking about don't run off the edge. It happens when they are already walking in the edge's direction. It seems more like it distracts them, rather than scares them. It doesn't just happen with Abe. You can use a possessed Slig to do the same thing, and in the the secret area I mentioned, the sounds of the top Slig beating the Mudokons will also make the bottom Slig walk off the edge.

Cullen Heath 02-15-2006 03:02 PM

That's weird, I've never encountered that.

Fuzzleman54321 02-18-2006 12:31 AM

In AO in the Scrabian place. Not the temples, There was a wall, a run jumped into it, went right through it, and died of falling damage.

AE:In Soulstorm brewery, i drank brew, farted, and it did'nt explode. It still counted down. I looked for it about 5 mins, then shrugged, turned around and guess what?

It exploded. -_-

MO: I threw a slig into a Meat Procceser, but it came back out and shot me.

Another AE: I dont know if this is a glitch, but it helped me complete the game somehow. I kept slapping a slig, but it didnt die.

Paramite Mask 02-18-2006 05:16 PM

Hm, do you guys think any glitches are in Stranger's Wrath? I might check, but I want to hear what you guys think.

outlaw king 02-18-2006 05:28 PM

Theres a time when a clakker takes your weapons of you , so you can go into town. When i entered , i did so in first person , and still kept my weapons.

FuzzleByte01 02-18-2006 06:27 PM

There are a couple times in AO where Scrabs will walk through the walls, and off-screen.

In Stranger's Wrath, at the place where you can enter the Wolvark facility through the sewers, there's something that might count as a glitch. As you get near the sewer door, Stranger will comment that "This sewer grid must be a secret way in." Once, though, I hit the self-speak button at just about the same time, so that Stranger said the same thing at almost the same time, giving him an awful stammering problem... "This this sewer sewer grid grid must must be be a a secret secret way way in in." It gave me a pretty good laugh when it happened...

I think thats the echoe of Stranger's voice in the sewers. In text form that is.

Wil 02-19-2006 09:42 AM

The easiest glitch in Stranger's Wrath to come across is to use the invincibility cheat and then get crushed by something, such as Jo' Mamma's pile driver. The avatar is destroyed, but you can still control an invisible Stranger.

LoboDiabloLoneWolf 02-19-2006 12:27 PM

Think I've already said about the shirt colour...

Paramite Mask 02-19-2006 12:37 PM

Yes, you did. I'll have to watch the opening CG and look for that. i don' think this counts as a glitch, but when I ask a Clakker something in Stranger's Wrath, if I move alittle bit it jumps back and says"Aw, what the hell." The Clakker didn't finish his sentence and he just goes on and walks around town.

FuzzleByte01 02-19-2006 01:49 PM

Where I was standing, there was no echo. The reason I think it might count as a glitch is that it usually seems that if you make Stranger talk as you get close to a spot where he talks automatically, all you hear is his normal self-speak. You won't hear the automatic speech at all. It only happened just that once.

So sounds mess up walking programming? Really...

Anyway, how come I have to tell muds twice to follow me, to make them walk off edges?

Nate 02-19-2006 03:22 PM

That aint no glitch; they're just smart enough to stop at edges. You need to encourage them to walk further if you want them to continue.

Slaveless 02-19-2006 03:37 PM

Hmm, makes sense. And how come they got rid of that in AE? Is it because muds trust you more than they did in AO?

panuru 02-19-2006 09:16 PM

In Abe's Oddysee (I think), I used to know how to ride Elum backwards. I've also had Elum disappear while riding a few times and was left with Abe floating while sitting down. I haven't simulated these glitches in an extremely long time, so I unfortunately do not remember the details of their instigation. A few times, I think also in Abe's Oddysee, Abe suddenly became an 'electric' glowing neon colour. I called it "electric Abe" and had a blast running about invinsible and glowing. This happened at different locations and always during a great deal of speed and accuracy thru areas; usually when something almost killed me but didn't.

This isn't a glitch, but in Abe's Exoddus I found out how to dodge certain floating mines that definitely should have killed me by jumping in wells. I expect this is intentional by the programers, as I used it often.

Munch's Oddysee is one large glitch. Speak/listen, AI, graphics, disappearing enemies... I like the game and love Munch, but I'm being honest here. Amost every time I play something glitches. Nothing too extreme, but you have to admit the game was sadly slapped together since it was rushed to completion.

The shadows in Stranger's Wrath are terrible glitches that get on my nerves.
