Fangus
I was just looking at Xavier's Togg pictures
Great Work Xavier.... But the reason something really shocked me. The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot: I been certainly waiting for this to come out but it didnt <(-_-) and HAND OF ODD> I always thought that the Fangus a dog like creature herding angry goat/sheep with rabies like disease. http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/togg...=CABB0018.jpg1 this one but there more..so does lorne want to create that there are humans in the world of odd? Due to the atmosphere/evolution is wiping them out? |
This is a much better example of why I'm glad this game never got published.
*Smacks Lorne and Silvio on the noses with a newspaper* NO! You do not put humans in this game series! That's what makes this game series so great, the fact that there isn't any human contact! |
I also didnt want it to be published becuase the amount of guns , I like oddworld becuase its not like other games, in Butal ballad of fangus klot they where going to make guns, helicopters and humans, what the hecks that all about?
|
hhmmm ask answer a question with question? That is what i trying to clear out! So what is it all about?
there a slight references i read some where that it will released this year! but it probably wrong since Lorne is making movies right |
Yeah, that's wrong.
I don't think anyone here will dispute the opinion that the designs for Fangus and related characters, environments and weapons lack that feeling of Oddness Oddworld depends upon. I think it was an act of desperation to appeal to mainstream and hardcore gamers. |
on the other hand it isn't even sure OWI would have kept all those ideas in the final game...
After all they leave stuff out for each game. ohh and thanks for the nice word about TOGG ;) |
:
Thanks for bringing that up. That is actually one of the reasons why Stranger's Wrath was not my favorite Oddworld game. Too many guns for an Oddworld game. |
what do you mean too many guns?
Stranger doesn't have any guns, only the ennemies do, like in the other games |
Well, in past Oddworld games, not including Stranger's Wrath, only the Sligs had guns, but none of the other enemies carried them. This made it cool, because very few creatures had guns.
In Stranger's Wrath EVERY enemy has a gun (Or bomb), plus the main character even has a gun. (And yes, a CrossBow, in my eyes, is considered a gun) The way I see Oddworld, is this magical, lush place, with magical powers for a weapon instead of bullets. To me, Sligs are an exeption to "No bullets", because they give you that Hard-Cold feeling every time you see one. They are the minions of the pure evil on Oddworld and should, in my opinion, have guns. |
well in MO, Interns and Vykkers had guns...
in SW Slegs as Slogs in MO have no guns ;) and 2 types of Outlaws don't have guns, the ones with knives (the first you see in the game) and the ones with big spiky fists |
Actully, in MO, they had the same kind of guns. Sligs had the same machine guns, big bro sligs had huge, hand held, bazookas. Vykkers and Interns (tell me if I'm wrong)had medical booster shot guns. Next, Snoozers had machine guns as well. SW had a huge amount of various guns.
|
Okay, maybe I forgot a few things and you were right, but the point that I'm trying to get across here is that Oddword is, to me, more of a peaceful place with Wildlife and Natives.
At times there can be guns, but mostly, it is a peaceful experience. |
But steefs and grubbs are natives. Just SW's plot forced Stranger into an industrial enviorment until the very end. And their was a huge amount of wildlife right in front of you. Oddworld just thought every game shouldn't be like Abe's Oddysee.
|
The Grubbs were not enemies, though.

I understand your sentiments, Cullen. In the early games, every enemy was really weak behind all their stature and adornments. Sligs without their pants are nothing more than foot fodder; Glukkons are precarious and defenceless; even Vykkers are cowards, highly intollerant of pain (as little as this played out in gameplay). Then in OSW every enemy is nothing more (or less) that what shoots at you, excepting Sekto. There isn't a great dualism or counterpart in each of the races seen in Stranger's Wrath, unless they're so subtle I haven't noticed them.
On the other hand, the industrial races clearly stamp down upon slave labour, natives, wildlife and the environment with gunfire and explosives. It's in their nature, and I don't expect them to have any more peaceful alternatives (unless they're just plain evil, like Product Delivery Firearms). The natives, too, I think, will be forced to defend themselves with very tangible weapons, and increasingly so as the Quintology progresses (yes, meaning warring Mudokons). They may always have their psychic chant and cheeky Spooce-powered traps, but they'll be forced to uprise violently, I bet. |
Thank you!
THAT was what I was trying to get out, everything in the first 3/4ths of the first paragraph. |
So, you thought that SW had too many actul emenies? Because most were not cowards and for other reasons? That makes sense.

I thought that outlaws having guns suited sw well , but then it got outta hand with the wolvarks , with bombs , and stuff. There are many different areas in oddworld , and it is reasonable to say that some areas maybe very dependent on firearms ( sorry for the bad spellin) . Just thinkin realisticly.
|
I agree. Oddworld’s set up to be a big place, with many species and races. I’m sure that not everyone there has the same outlook and ethics of the Mudokons. Who’s to say that, somewhere, there isn’t a situation that would or could be solved with the Fangus approach?
I reiterate, it wasn’t the concept behind Fangus that I didn’t like, with the guns, and the bloodshed, and the bombs that have the EXPLOSIONS, glayven. I just didn’t like the direction that the character designs were headed, is all. Oddworld’s supposed to be ten times the size of earth, and this (to me anyway) presents the opportunity to explore many different types of gameplay (yes, even shooters). Branching from that thought, I realize that the quintology is the most important saga to the series, but the planet’s size gives OWI a chance to create many different side-stories that encompasses a wide variety of characters. |
the main frightening thing in there weren't the guns indeed
it was the Human face Fangus had. That the thing that would have been totally wrong even if OWI create a story around them and call them Namuhs, it would still have been to human to me. |
Yeah , man . Look into his scary eyes , its like there saying " boooooo! I am faangus! and im a huuuuuuuuuuuumaaaaaaaan! " , Hey yeah , that character looked more like some kind of security gard , i dont think HE is fangus . maybe just an enemy
|
would be silly... this was the first and only picture released in the press:
http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/togg...=CABB0018.jpg1 where they clearly mentionned Fangus being a shepherd This is why everybody is convinced that the guy in the center of the picture is. http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/togg...=OTFA0001.jpg1 |
I think he is/was Fangus, and anyway, he's still a human on steroids, which doesn't work on Oddworld. It looks wrong, and I don't care how stylised this guy and his accompanying cast become, they're lacking the originality and character that attracted me to Oddworld in the first place. Maybe in another series or world, but not Oddworld.

I had no problem with it. I just want another damn game.
|
Same here.... It was kind of leading up from stranger anyway....
|
I would start to question my love and loyalty of Oddworld games if they started dropping the qualities that made them the Oddworld I loved. I understand and expect artist's and their artistic style develop and change over time, but the creative reasons for these changes don't justify them in my eyes.

I cant see what everybody trying to say? but the way i see it is this..
Oddworld have very high expections developing their games. Although the Stranger's Wrath is dispointing to me but i still enjoy all around. Its the gameplay of it that was different switching form 1st person to 3rd person..and the concept of exploring the world as a creatures beyond you could imagine. this made it different to other game developed. In the process of Fangus i dont how humans fit in well cause if the hero is a human then what this different from other games. (-__-)im thinking of QUAKE,DOOM and UNREAL. I am dreading it will be just a third person shoot-up. (Two many guns can destroy the whole theme) |
