Help with AE starting disc 2

I'm posting this for my 11 y/o son--PLEASE HELP, as he's driving me completely batty. I'm not a gamer, so I'm going to explain in his words, bear with me. He finishes disc 1 of Abe's Exoddus, it says to insert disc 2. He inserts disc two, it flashes words (sit down and shaddup) while it's loading, then it says insert disc 1.

Is this a problem with the disc (which I bought used but looks brand new?) Or maybe a problem with the console (a year and half old?) Or is he not finishing something on disc one?

He then said maybe he needed to get more Muddokans, then he said oh, he forgot to get the ghost thing. (Which leads me to believe he'd done it before.) He's finished the first disc at least 6 times, and can never begin disc 2. PLEASE HELP! Thanks.

Hm, I don't exactly know how the PSX version of the game works. What happens when you put disc 1 back in when it tells you to?

metroixer 01-28-2006 08:43 AM

This might be exactly the reason why the old owner sold the game. Disc 2 no worky. Have you tried e-mailing OWI? I'm pretty sure they will help :).

Havoc 01-28-2006 08:54 AM

Or contact the old owner? See if he knows? :P

Do you normally insert Disc one, load your file and then insert Disc two?
If you do it that way, try just inserting Disc two and loading it from there.

havoc- When he puts disc one back in, and loads the game from the memory card, it says, please insert disc 2. It creates a circle.

I think he did try to load the game both ways, cullen, but I'm going to watch him do it and see. Hard to get a good explanation from an 11 y/o with Asperger's.

Thanks for the email advice, metroixer. I did goto the website to see if there were any posted forums addressing probs but I didn't think to email them.

Thanks everybody!! :D

Glad to be of help!

Well, we haven't really done anything yet.

Maybe you should look on Ebay and search for a new Abe's Exoddus, but if they are all to expensive and you are REALLY desperate, I guess I could send you a Abe's Exoddus Dics 2.

could you try renting the game so that you can see if the second disk works on a different copy.although i do not know if they rent games anywhere else than hee

It's an older game--so it's so hard to find anywhere. My son loves it tho. He started playing A.O. when he was about 8. Now I finally got him AE and he's going crazy. Even the oddworld website says to just insert disc 2 w/o resetting the console or anything. It's probably the disc but w/ PS2 you never know.

Cullen Heath 02-12-2006 11:29 AM

Would you like me to do that? Send you a disc 2 of Abe's Exoddus?

Havoc 02-12-2006 11:49 AM

It might be the fact that it's a PS2 you're trying it on. The Oddworld games are, like you said, very old. From the PS1 era. And eventhough Sony claims that all PS games are playable on the PS2, it might experience problems when you need to change discs. As far as I know the PS2 does not feature games that need to change discs anymore, so maybe that feature has been taken out of the console, which would explain why it doesn't grab onto it.

You can do two more things. See if you can rent the game somewhere, and see if it's the game discs. Or rent an old PS1 somewhere and see if it's the console. It has to be either one or the other. Let us know what how it evolved :).

Nope, I play all my Oddworld PS1 games on a PS2 and they work fine.
I have never had any problems with changing discs, but, although I highly boubt it, I guess it could be her Playstation.

Well, the question is, when you bought AE used was it refebished by the shop you bought it at, or was it just stored and ended up being bought by you? That would explain alot if it wasn't referbished in any way. Hope this kinda helps.

Havoc 02-20-2006 11:54 PM

Read before you post. She said she bought it used.

Paramite Mask 02-21-2006 07:03 AM

I know she bought it used. It's just some places refurbish the discs and clean them. So I'm guessing she just bought it used without the place using a disc cleaner or something.

Slaveless 02-21-2006 08:55 AM

OK, the person who doesn't want the game, gives it to a internet seller, who cleans the disk and then post the disk on a site. All cds are cleaned before shipping. Either your suggesting that they bought a cd in a poor condition or something else.

Paramite Mask 02-21-2006 02:18 PM

Yep, that's basically it. Sorry if it wasn't clear. Sometimes, it's hard for me to explain things clearly.

Adder 02-23-2006 12:04 PM

I've seen this happen on my PC version, but it didn't cause such a long loop.

He probably saved near the end of one disk and the start of the next, so the game isn't sure where to load to.

I hope it works out for you.
