vBulletin

Wow! I just found out how mumch it costs to host a vBulletin forum. A licensce plus installation comes to like $295.00. Not to mention that you need your own server/domain. I just wanted to say to the founders of OWF that I really appreaciate them making this forum.

Kimon 01-17-2006 06:47 PM

...Righto.

Havoc 01-18-2006 01:52 AM

V-bulletin is darn expensive yea... but not 300 bux O.o.
It's 85 bux a year. Still expensive though.

Abe's Brother 01-18-2006 07:17 AM

Oh, for one year Membership it's £45:00, I'm british though so i don't know what the U.S or any other amount is.

TomFrogman 01-18-2006 08:38 AM

I was under the impression with vBulletin you could purchase an indefinite lifetime membership, good for only one forum per purchase and beyond that the only additional fees you pay are for hosting and domains.

I'm probably wrong, by sounds of things.

AquaticAmbi 01-18-2006 01:00 PM

Hah, even with those lower estimated costs, it's still more than I'd pay for any of you. :p

Does Abe Babe still pay for hosting/whatever? I mean... I don't quite understand why someone would pay for something he or she never uses anymore.

Havoc 01-18-2006 01:22 PM

I think Alcar took over the payment =/.

Tom: Yea you can buy a lifetime membership, but that costs a lot more money and you still pay for updates and stuff. Paying by the year is cheaper IMO.

Alcar 01-18-2006 02:09 PM

The initial purchase of vBulletin was US$160, which is rather expensive if you ask me. From then on, you have to pay an additional fee each year if you want to recieve upgrades. As far as upgrades are concerned, I'm not sure if they are still being paid for, or if when they need to be paid.

The hosting is covered by myself. It's not too pricey when paid monthly, but it all adds up. Especially when you're saving for a car :p

Wow, I now appreciate Alcar exactly 47.076531% more!

EDIT:

Is it me, or do all the major members of this forum (Alcar, Sydney, AbeBabe)

live in Sydney?

oddveteran93 01-18-2006 03:38 PM

heeheeh and I live in Melbourne. so many Australians

Alcar 01-18-2006 03:48 PM

Yes, Sydney and I live in the state of New South Wales (I live in a suburb of Southern Sydney, while the actual person, Sydney, lives in North Western Sydney). Abe Babe resides in the state of Victoria, in a suburb of Melbourne (not too sure how far away from the CBD she is).

Pure Edward de Bono for you: Comets orbit the sun but not everything orbiting the sun is a comet.

Similarly: The important members live in Sydney (or Melbourne) but not everyone in Sydney is important. Everyone but for Mudling, I'd say. :D

EDIT: that's probably a little random for anyone who wasn't forced to read that damn EdeB story when they were in year 8.
