Cool fantasy MMORPGs...

I'm in the market for one... I preferably want it to be like Diablo II - same quality of graphics, same top-down fixed view, similar gameplay.

Anyone know any? Recommend any?

If you do, are they free, or do you have to pay? If so, how much?

Also, discuss;

favourite fantasy MMORPGs/RPGs.

Diablo 2 wasn't a MMORPG. It consisted of several player-made servers which could hold about 8-16 people. I have no idea what you want, try Diablo 1 maybe?

Or if you can't find one that's got your graphic/top-down view thing, I'd reccomend waiting for the WoW expansion. It's gonna be more Diablo-like, socketed items etc.

hehe. Runescape ftw.

FINALLY!

Yeah, I play runescape, damn them, damn for getting me readdicted! I am not gold yet, but I will probably upgrade come my birthday (yippee!). I play as a mage/cook kind of guy. My cooking is level 53 and my magic is 35. So wooo hooo!

metroixer 01-14-2006 06:45 AM

:D A runescape player! Yay! Whenever I play runescape and tell the people in my chatroom about it they are always like "Runescape? More like runesuck.". YAYZ. I would gladly enter you in my friend list used:).

Kimon 01-14-2006 10:21 AM

I recommend Guild Wars. 'Tis tons of fun. Other than that though, most MMO's are the same old bowel movement. Huxley is a MMOFPS that is looking pretty good, but I have no clue when that's coming out.

Oh, and another cool game is Fate. It's very much in the style of Diablo, except it's little more 'kiddish'. You have a pet that you can feed various fish, which turn it into different monsters for varying periods of time. You have to buy it online as it's from an indie developer, but it's hours of dungeoun crawling fun.

Runescape = tears. Rectal tears. You know my stance on it, Gabe san. It makes me want to hug baby Jesus so it can all go away.

Yeah, I previously played Runescape. Got to around level 20 or so, just so I could look semi macho to the noobs. I never found it addictive to begin with, ever.

"Let's go make some armor!" says DarkNite2267. "Ok! To the mining thing!" replies ~tEaRsOfnoThIng~. So, they're off on their splendid little adventure, to find stones to click on. "Oh look! It's a stone I can mine!" says DarkNite2267. So then the pair mine for 2 hours straight, and get one ore.

Moral of the story: Runescape suxx. ^_^

I never really liked MMORPGs, I prefer big worlded single player ones, like that one you know.

The reason why runescape is in such high popularity is because it's the only medieval mmorpg that costs bupkus and still maintains fun quality (besides Kal Online and Knights Online).

Jesus christ, did that really warrant the extreme patronising?

I know what Diablo 2 "was", I play it, and I have a level 92 amazon, a level 89 sorceress, and a level 55 necromancer on the Europe realm ladder to prove it.

What I MEANT was, something that's LIKE Diablo II, IE: Same playing style. Yes? Okay.

And I did consider Guild Wars, but it's not the top-down fixed angle view that I like, it's third person, I believe.

FYI, Diablo II does not consist of player made servers, it consists of several realms, each with their own group of servers, each server able to hold several thousand players, and players initiate games on those servers, which are prerandomised worlds able to hold up to 8 players.

Yes, indeed.

The only other fixed-view Diablo-like game that I know or can recommend is Fate. It's not an MMO, but I don't think there are any Diablo-style MMO's.

NO, you just patronise people in a legitamate way so you have an excuse for barking at them when they make a retort at you.

There is one... it's very very similar looking to it, has very similar graphics... but I can't remember the damn name of it. It's advertised on Game Network all the time, so I shall have to go watch it for a while and see if it comes up.

Very well put. For once I actually agree with used.

CS, you were being patronising, and I wasn't even that nasty to you in response. Also you didn't really add anything, except that you had no clue what to suggest. That isn't really very helpful. I appreciate the suggestion of WoW, but pretty much everyone and his brother knows that I hate that game with a passion.

Patronise = Making someone feel small.

Sorry son, but from the looks of my post, no making anyone feel small there. Don't you butt in what has nothing to do with you.

Well Dino, from the looks of your post, I couldn't help but feel you were being an ass :| Merely because of ''Jesus Christ'' and whatnot. If not, no problemo then.

I wasn't being an ass, I was just saying there was no need for you to assume that I didn't know what Diablo II was/had never played Diablo II. I don't have a problem with you or anything I just thought it was a very erroneous assumption.

And to all those interested to know, I found out about something called Legend Of Mir... looks pretty good. It's along the kind of Diablo top-down fixed angle view RPG lines, with similar graphics. It appears to be vaguely anime inspired. Here's the site: http://www.legendofmir.net/

And from a little bit of preliminary research I've been able to deduce that there appears to be 2 sequels/follow-ups to the Legend Of Mir. I'll look into them time permitting.

TomFrogman 01-18-2006 06:00 AM

It's not particularly what you're after, but for what it's worth I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy XI and World of Warcraft, though I haven't tried Guild Wars yet. World of Warcraft isn't a top down RPG, but I'd say it's battle style is the closest to Diablo out of the two games mentioned. Now what I'd REALLY like to see is a good science fiction MMORPG.

www.kalonline.com

I should have mentioned this earlier, this is probably the best FREE mmorpg that I have ever seen. Great grahics, great gameplay. What will the Japanese think of next?

Abe 01 02-10-2006 09:34 AM

I did play runescape till people started going round saying 'omg i got a massive sword look at me noob im so stronger becuase i clicked on a goblin for 24 hours a day ' and plus its so boring just clicking everywhere.

The Red Muse 02-13-2006 03:12 AM

World of Warcraft
Now there's a game ya gotta love.

Not an RPG you may think?
-Create your char on an RP server, like I did. (Same PvP rules as PvE servers)

Not enough action and tense situations?
-Put your char on an PVP server and kick some opposing faction *cough*Alliance*cough* butt. (Player vs. Player)
(idiot warning on this one...)

You don't want to get ganked all the time and not play with some "nerdy" RP people?
-Choose a PvE server (Player vs. Enviroment)

You want to kick some *cough* Alliance*cough* butt, get ganked all the time by mean epic geared paladins AND you want to RP at the same time?
-PvPRP is your choise then. (Player vs. Player RP)
For The Horde!

*it's so much to surf the world wide web while you should be working*

RED MUSEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :O:O:O:O:O:!!! *Cries and hugs* I've been missing you soo much! Where've you been?

Anyways Dino, if you really want an Online RPG like Diablo, you should try Sacred. It basically the same gameplay and style, just with a wee better graphics, and another story. It's also more medievalish. Like... You have to fight thieves, trolls, orcs and stuff like that. But it's a pretty good game :)

oddveteran93 02-14-2006 09:22 PM

I love Fable, Kotor 1 and 2, Lionheart, and Runescape is barely acceptable.

T-nex 02-14-2006 10:07 PM

Well, Fable and Kotor aren't really diabloish at all... And he clearly stated that he wanted a game with about the same gameplay as Diablo :-/
