DOC! From Oddworld, Stranger's Wrath
WARNING! THIS MAY CONTAIN SOME SERIOUS SPOILEDGE.
Yes, this is a thread about Doc, the Vykker who was supposed to preform on Stranger, but was.... well you know. So lets discuss on how he got to Strangers part of Oddworld instead of being with all the other Vykkers and why he was there. What do you guys think would have happened if the surgery would have been complited? |
I think you would have been better off placing this in the Spoiler forum. But ala...
I think Doc just went to start a bussiness of his own. Not all Vykers nececerily live in Vykers labs, but they have the same passion, so Doc started an office in a place where it was needed, and had a quite the patient with the Stranger. If the surgery would have been completed then Stranger would just have kept being a bounty hunter. Then he would not have gone after Sekto, would not have run into the grubs and then everything would have taken a very diffrent turn. AKA, the story would collapse. |
Yea... Maybe then he'd WORK for sekto! Buahaha... You know, he wanted him to get a steef head and stuff.
But like many other, some people just don't like where they are. the Doc probably just liked the more quiet life. |
this has to be in the spoiler forums, this is why it was created...
hmm I guess the fact why he is there is that the Vykkers Coglomeration sends docs wherever they can grab some moolah, so one doc for the mongo valley should bring some decend moolah to the conglomeration, we might see Vykkers all over Oddworld. |

Yesh hooray for him ^_^! Anyway I think it's because the vykkers may have wanted to examine some inner parts of Clakkerz and such. You know since they are a new spiecies to them and all that jazz. Now a bigger question: How do FUZZLES appear in western mudos? 0_0!
|
Metroixer, Clakkers are not a new species to them, they are a new species to US. Oddworld is an already set universe, the characters in the story don't follow and discover new parts as new games come out. Just because western mudo's was used in a game, doesn't mean it wasn't created or populated in the previous games during the adventures of Abe and Munch.
Same goes for the fuzzles, fuzzles are Oddworld wildlife, and show up everywhere they feel at home. Think beyond the borders of the games my friend. |
Ahh sorry there Havoc. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought that vykkers were born in the part of mudos in where abe and munch live. Then they choose certain vykkers to go around and travel, then bring back any organs they might hae kept to the vykker labs.
|
Yeah, I think Doc moved here on his own. Not by this Vykker thing you said, Xavier.
My guess is that he came in search of working on more patcients and getting paid more Moolah. Guys its fine if you move this, I dont mind. |
It's been moved for ages XD.
I think a multimillion moolah company like Vykers Labs pays a heck more then a self employed docter in the western wastelands. |
No. I dont think that one employee himself would get paid much at all. The owners, yes. The employees, no.
Think about it, Vykker's Labs dont work on creatures very often(as much as I have seen, bassicly all they work on are Fuzzles) and just thier products such as Lung Busters, Baby Chow, Butt Flo, ECT. And WHO works on those products??? OPTION A: The employees. OPTION B: Humphrey and Irwin. I choose option B, thus making the employees not getting paid much. This is why a sinlge Vykker would move on his own, run his own buisness and keep his own Moolah that he earned by himself. |
No, there's probably a lot more going on a Vykker's Labs that we saw. It takes a lot of work to develop a new product and make it as harmful as possible and I really don't think Humphrey and Irwin can do it all on their own.
My vibe on Doc was that he was a little down and out. Maybe he had been fired from Vykker's Labs and had to go as far as possible out of Humphrey and Irwin's medical monopoly in order to find somewhere he could practice. Or perhaps he was on the run from the law. That would fit with the whole 'wide west' theme. :
|
Wait a minute...Look at doc and Humphrey for a second....I think I see a resemblance! Could Humphrey possiblty be doc himself? 0.o
|
Ah that could be a possibility, got fired and was on the run from Vykker's
Labs. As for Sekto, Stranger was after him as soon as he hung up with him on the phone beacause: #1. He wanted to find him and kill him so Sekto wouldnt find out about Stranger being a Steef. #2.He was not happy about Sekto killing his race so he wanted to kill him. |
But if he had managed to get the operation performed, Sekto would not have been able to find out he was the Steef. And, in any case, Stranger didn't feel any particular connection to his race so he probably did no want to get much by way of revenge.
As for Doc = Humphrey; I doubt it. There's no way Humphrey could have survived the explosion and crash of VL. Any similarity comes from them being members of a species of which we have only seen three members (not including the real-time enemies in MO). |
Well Stranger didnt like the fact that Sekto was draining all the water that the natives needed, and after all, they were helping Stranger by giving him better suites and weapons.
Sorry metroixer but no, Humphrey is NOT Doc. |
It's called DNA reproduction....Hey it could be possible on oddworld. You know grabbing a body part or something from his body put it in a machine and BLAMO! We have a new Humphrey.
|
What I'm wondering even more is, why Stranger accepted the bounty which was impossible to do. Would be kind of hard for him to kill himself and give himself to Sekto. That still puzzles me, because I don't get it.
As for the vyker thing, the resemblence might just be because Oddworld re-used existing models. Time is money, even for Lorne and his crew (esspecialy under the pressure of EA) so if there realy is a resemblance, then it's because of model re-use. |
Metroixer, no. Sorry, but no. Humphrey is not Doc. Humphry and Irwin went KAPUT in the big Vykker's Labs Explosion. He died. He turned to ashes bassicly, so no.
Havoc, the reason why Stranger took it up was because he wanted to know Sekto's location so he could go hunt him down. |
Yea but why hunt him down? All Stranger wanted was his operation, why would he care about Sekto, the dam, the Grubs or the other Steefs (although D. Caste Raider claimed that there were no other steefs)?
Story is kinda vague from that point forward. |
I dont know why he, "-The Big Badass Stranger-" actually cared, but I guess that was just one time in his lonley lil life that he DID care.
|
Either Stranger really was prepared to find a Steef for Sekto, which would certainly tie in to the idea of him having a ****ed up heart, or he purely wanted to take out revenge on Sekto for privatising the land and destroying the Steef population - how ever much he thinks he needs to distance himself from his old identity, he must still dislike whatever forces made that necessity. I'm leaning on both being true. Stranger wouldn't have had any reason to ensure Sekto would pay 20 grand if he didn't think it was possible to bag the bounty.
I like the idea of the Doc being moved into the Clakker settlements so the Vykkers Conglomerate can cover all known markets. That seems in line with their business strategies, but I don't see why he would have been a subordinate of Humphrey and Irwin. They're the CEOs of Vykkers Labs, but the Conglomerate is composed of other entities. |
No, Stranger was not going to go hunt down a Steef for Sekto!
He was going to him so he could beat the tar out of him. It practically says in the game. |
:
As for Doc, I wish that they had elaborated more on his past as well. He was by far one of the most mysterious characters in Stranger's Wrath because we know so little about him. |
:
|
Yeah, no one can be sure if they turned to ashes or not. My guess is that they were.....uhm....blown up. I feel so weird for saying that! :p But Metroixer has a point when he talks about DNA reproduction. ;) I think that's a very interesting theory, but my guess is that Havoc is right about the use of existing models. That's more than likely why Doc and Humphrey look so much alike.
|
That and IMO Humphrey seems to have a tad of a deeper voice than other vykkers. Same with Doc. Coincidence? Or same vykker? We might never know n.n.
EDOT: Oh and what if Stranger ACtUALLY saw a Steef, and you had the choice of killing it or not killing it and sending it free? Your choice would affect the storyline. Hey sounds good to me. |
Yes we do know. They are not the same character. Full stop. There is no reason why they should be the same character. If Humphrey were still alive, he'd still be in charge of the Vykker's Labs corporation so I'm sure he would just move over to one of the other labs.

:
I dont care if he blew up like a watermelon or was turned into ashes or smushed to death, they are not the same Vykkers. |
:
When working with 3D, re-using models is both time saving and money saving, and no-one will even realy notice. All the grubs use the exact same model, I doubt they model every single grubb in the movie seperately :P. The two vykers died in the explosion, they were standing right next to 1200 pounds of damn dynamite, and you could see the explosion come out trough the roof. Vyker's can't regenerate, so after an explosion like that there was absolutely nothing left of them. |
