Strangers wrath
 

I dont know about you people but i did not think Strangers Wrath wasn't much of an oddworld game. I have every oddworld game, but this was just a disapointment, my question is...

1) Does any body have Strangers Wrath?

2) Did anybody like it?

I may not have it, but i have seen enough to definatley classify it as one of OWI's best creations. I do not understand why you didn't like I it. I admit the setting was a bit cliche, but with all of the smaller things below that, it was built into an extraordinary game. I thought the voices were amazing and I liked the landscapes considerably more than MO.

I actually thought this was the best Oddworld game by far. WAY better than any of the others as far as gameplay is concerned.

But yeah. I liked it a lot, it had a lot of atmosphere. It wasn't very "Abe", but it was most definetly very "Oddworld." Why didn't you like it?

Hell, I have Stranger's Wrath, and I thought it was the best out'a all of them. (Well, I can't SAY that because I haven't played the Abe's Oddysee and Exxodus games, so I say it's the best to my spectrum) Hell, I love it so much, I continue to play it, and uncover new secrets, and just ter beat the shit out'a them damn outlaws! ^.^

Indeed, it redeems the Oddworld series.

Just so you know, i have munches oddysee, and it was 3D, it is not like i am switching just suddenly

Well first off all I love this game. Sure Abe's Exoduss is way better IMHO, but still. It was still odd. That's what makes oddworld right? Okay so there aren't any sligs,farts,glukkons, and whatnot but still! This game still had that special feeling. Good thing they kept the comedy ;).

BUT..........it for sure is NOT the best Oddworld game! I was furious when I finished it and there was no Abe to be found. After finishing it a lot I like it more than I used to though.

You all need to realise that OWI aren't one to be a one-trip-pony. They try to branch out of just having one franchise.

Sure is? You make it sound like you haven't considered that it may be the BEST oddworld game. Oddworld isn't about Abe, and in my opinion he is one of the lousiest characters in the game (persona wise). In my opinion, oddworld is about viewing the widescope of things, of all differences and such. Including Stranger.

Dude... Abe is just one character. On one small place. On one continent. On a world that is ten times bigger than Earth. Abe was the first Oddworld character, so he's obviously special, but Oddworld doesn't depend on Abe.

Icarus, if you didn't think Stranger was up to par with AO/AE and MO, tell us why. What made it so bad?
Was it the shoot-em-up style that turned you off from it? Keep in mind, it isn't a part of the Quintology. If you were more into the first three games, wait around a while. Nobody knows much about future Oddworld games, but they will likely return to Abe and Munch style puzzle-solvers.
Was it the characters? Don't be single-minded. Oddworld is a huge place. There aren't going to be the same old mudokons and glukkons everywhere.
Or could it have been the plot twist? Avoiding the use of spoilers, I think that the twist made the game that much easier to connect with and it made me sympathize with Stranger more.
So while SW is a complete overhaul and total change-up from what Oddworld has already presented us, it isn't fair to write it off as a bad Oddworld game.

Well I agree with Icarus, I did'nt like it as much as the first 3 games, but it WAS still very good.

I personally liked SW, brought a nice change to the design and gameplay of the series. Loved the ability to switch from 3rd to 1st person at will. I agree with Used - it's right that OWI should explore every possible feature, design, gameplay and perspective that Oddworld has to offer. Think of it as a TV series, if you show the same thing over and over again without any variation, people are going to complain. OWI had this in their minds right up to the end, and no doubt this will carry forth into movie production

Oh my God!! This was a thread about why Icarus didn't like Stranger and now it's a flame war about whether Abe is a good character or not and about whose idea is right and whose is wrong!! I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at this! :lol: Cullen, I'm going to start by saying that just because people disagree with you doesn't mean that they are wrong and you are right. An opinion is an opinion, buddy, not a fact. I personally think that Abe is a more endearing and interesting character than Stranger (even though he's a very interesting and mysterious character as well), but that's just my opinion. I'm not going to get riled up if anyone disagrees with me and neither should you. In fact, I agree with used when he says that OWI has the right to experiment with new things. You can't always have the same thing all the time, otherwise it will start to become stale and over-used.

Now, with that off of my chest, I, personally, loved Stranger's Wrath because of its story and plus, I honestly feel like more people can relate to Stranger because of the fact that he felt like an outcast and tried to change himself in order to fit in. I also thought it was very challenging at times. Although I am more into the Abe games because of the puzzle-solving strategies found in them, I thought that Stranger's Wrath was nearly as good as the Abe games because of its story. I love Munch's Oddysee, but it's honestly the weakest in the Oddworld series because so many good things were cut out of it AND it was quite repetitive in some areas.

I agree about Munch's Oddysee, the first time I heard the jumping sound effect my mood dropped significantly, but once I was back in Odd mode and saw beyond the cartoonish sound effects, silly bugs and repetitive gameplay I started to enjoy it for what it was, another oddworld game!!!!
