Future jobs--the ones you want, and the ones you DON't want.
In a deperate attempt to liven things up around these parts, here's a thread discussing the topic of the unlimited number of occupations we will one have to choose one from. So which one do you prefer? And which one could you never ver do?
As for me, I really want to become a band director, as I like writing marching drill, conducting, and general music whether it be orchestral or general band music. Either that or a therapist or child psycologist. The job I couldn't bare to have is a doctor. Surgeon, whatever you want to call it, I couldn't take it. Although I am fascinated by human anatomy, a doctor's life is extremely challenging. A lot of the time you hardly get to go home due to work getting so heavy at times. Plus, you have peoples' lives in your hands when you're opetratring, their very life's fate is in your skills. |
Damn good idea for a thread used.
Well I'm studying Robotics Engineering and Computer Science but that could get me any in a wide range of jobs, which is why I chose those courses. I didn't know then and I didn't know now what I want to do. I think I'd like to do something with programming microcontrollers for some sort of hardware. Particularly something like the Sony Aibo which is cool even if it is just a toy. Alternatively, I'd love to get into nano-technology which is probably going to be the wave of the future. There are times that I think about game design and programming but I think I'd prefer to keep that as a hobby as the game industry seems like a horrible one to work for at the moment. But my life's dream has always been to become an author. I've got lots of ideas for stories but I just lack the ability to develop them into full plots. I think I'm going to take a course on that one of these years when I've got the time. |
Nice thread. Hey, lets reply!
Thing I always want to do, and am fighting to accomplish, is to open my own Big Cat Sanctuary and take care of tiggies all day long ^_^. Thing I would hate most, any job that envolves CHILDREN! DEATH TO CHILDREN :|. |
^ What exactly would that children age be? O_o
Anyway I am trying to get myself into graphical computer engineering and whatnot. Alas me being at a young age I don't think I can find any tutor or anything that can teach me. For I have this great ides for a video game that I would like to take part in making, and just can't go to waste! Want details? PM me. Now a job I would hate...I would acually agree with Havoc on the children thing. ESPECIALLY PRE-K. If I had a penny for every time one of those little people have pissed me off before I would be a millionare. |
I'm thinking of becoming a translator. I can study languages with ease, I guess, and there are many things you can translate in the modern world, like articles, instruction manuals, books maybe... I'm doing a translation now, so I can practise for the job. But it's a long way 'till then...
I could also imagine myself as a computer game tester. People should do what they really like, and these two ideas of mine are like my hobbies. I couldn't work as a doctor or anything with medicine. Like used said, there's too much depending on the person's skills. Too much stress. Good thread! |
well im going to a mental home when im old enough so not much i can do when i get out ... if i get out
|
Yes, you will be in the department where they keep the mentally retarded.
Actually Dripik, a translator is a very good career to ch0oose. I hear the UN is looking for translators at the moment. I am thinking about becoming a translator myself.m I am doing very well in spanish at the moment. |

I heard something like 70% of the UN's budget goes on translators.

And re Havoc you remind me of an old friend who hated working with kids but somehow ended up as a primary school teacher. (!) |

Well, there is one thing in life that I really want to be and that would be a band Directer. I play several brass instrumens and am currently trying to learn some woodwinds. And a job that I would really hate to have is being a doctor where you are confined and have to cut people open.

I've always wanted to be an actress. I know it's very unlikely I'll ever become one, not to mention become good/well known enough to actually make a living off it, but it's the only thing I feel I'm better than the average guy at.
If that fails, I want to be an author. It's the same thing there, though. Unless I write the next Harry Potterish sensation, I won't be able to live off it. Which means that whatever I do, I'll be forced to take some dull job to survive while waiting for the breakthrough. Depressing. I have a bunch of jobs I couldn't handle. Anything involving kids. Anything very stressy or something like that. A doctor, since I can't handle seeing people in pain. There's a lot of things I can't do. |
I wish I was more artistic, writing, art, etc. I know it isn't that high-paying but it seems like great fun.
I'd hate to be a psychologist. I think everyone is whacked to a certain degree but I couldn't stand having to deal with the cream of the neurotic crop on a daily basis. |
yeah, I get what you mean! I have to teach some retarted kid and he just won't settle down. I pretty much never get anything done.

In the future, if I continue my education, I'd like to go to university and get some musical/audio qualifications. Because, I r... teh rox ztar! |
Is there anything else in the field of music that has to do with teaching besides band Director?
|
Um... Music Teacher? :p
|
You could take it a step further and be an educational musician. Form a band, and go around to schools teaching kids about music and stuff.
