The Ranking System, Good or Bad?
This will probably have been spoke about before but I haven't noticed it. Anyway, I just thot I'd get some opininons on whether the ranking system is a positive or a negative thing on the forum. As we know this forum, like any other, contains bitchyness and arguments but does the ranking system add to tension between member's? I mean certain members might think that because they have a higher rank there opinion matters more. Newbies are also easily identified and could be abused causing people to leave. Anyway just wondering wot people thot... :fuzvamp:

1) We would recognise newbies anyway due to the fact that they are unfamiliar.
2) The people with the higher ranks are only bitchy to people who post spammy or stupid things. 3) The only people I've seen who act bitchy about their post count are those with less than 1000 posts. Any of the true veterans are past caring. In any case, we're discussing this already in the "My Pondering of Posts" thread. |

Title and ranks are only there just for fun, in more serous words not boring. It goes with the oddworld theme.
Also I like to note that Alcar promised us SW titles someday, and skin. |
SW Titles and skin! W00t :D.
But yea, the ranks are just for fun. It's not like anyone here can pull rank on anyone else. Well, I did that once. But that was a special case :P. |
Every other forum has ranks, so it would e stupid for us not to. They're only ait of fun and I haven't seen any spammers spamming just to get their post ranks up in a very long time.

Although post counts and stars don't seem to be an issue right now (despite discussion of them having cropped up), I still think they're nothing but negative points. The number of posts someone has made should be incidental information, not like their join date and location which can prove valuable in responding to posts. The only thing that is fun are the ranks, which I'm not in favour of removing. The stars and post counts on the postbits, though. EDIT: We did have a Stranger's Wrath template at one point. What happened to it? |
I remember Alcar saying that it'll change when SW is released worldwide, so we have to wait until about seven months ago.

we auctually did have a stranger skin, remeber? right after that dude hacked the forums.
besides stars and titles are just ways of acknowledging more frequent members |
I already forgot how that looked completely. Anyone have a screeny? And why isn't it around anymore?
|
Actualy the skin that was used during our hacked forums was a defualt vBulletin skin, only the banner had a stranger theme. The SW skin wasn't finnished, and probably still isn't.

As much as I love him, this is Alcar we're talking about... He procrastinates with the best of them. So I think Oddish is right, it's prolly not even finished yet.

No, there was one. It had the Grubb Graveyard from the opening movie of the game at the top of the screen, but it was repeated twice and looked rather tacky IMO. It used to show up as the Forum default when I wasn't signed in.

I thought the one in EL was different - it just had a brown colour scheme and a sepia OWF sign of cut-and-paste Western-style letters with D. Caste Raider standing next to them. In any case, it's not there now.

She's got it right. :)
And I think it's the one you mean Max, with the badly spliced graveyard image. |
Yeah, I remember that as well.
Thought it was fun though. |
