One of the cruelest holidays ever...

Well, not physically.

This thread is to discuss the horror behind holidays and whynthey suck ass, besides you get off for a day!

One of my least favorites is Columbus Day. Honestly, the man goes to the West Indies and enslaves the Haitians. And then ushers in a whole new era of slave trade along with doing some more of his own. So yes, he "discovere" North Amereica, along with the demancipation and abuse of the natives oin his wake.

Except for the fact that he never reached North America.

My favourite is Queen's Birthday in Australia.

1) No-one cares about the queen.
2) The holiday is in June. Her birthday is in April. Go figure.

No-one's ever going to dispute it because everyone wants the day off work.

Actually, no he didn't. Historical evidence proves that the Chinese first discovered America. Then after that it was the Vikings, then it was Columbus.

Eh... wern't it the indians who first discoverd it... as they actualy... I dunno... lived there?

Anyhoo... I hate christmas. Several reasons. 1. It's a religous holiday. 2. There is only a short range of christmast music that I like... 3. I hate the crowds at the store! 4. I hate pinetree's!

Only thing good about christmas is the presents and the days off XD.

Haven't heard of this Chinese discovery of America, care to supply a link?

Kimon 11-04-2005 04:44 PM

Pshh. Everybody knows white people saved America from the blacks, indians, and chinese who were filling it with toxic waste and WMDEEZ!!!!

Anyway, one holiday that totally sucks is... Hmm. I actually like pretty much all holidays. 'Cept 4th of July. That pisses me off.

Sure,

:

"I started off with all sorts of peripheral information," he recalled. "The first Europeans who came to the Americas found Chinese chickens, rice, Chinese porcelain and jade, they found Chinese-speaking peoples

Although this ^^^ seems like evidence, apparently it's not proved as of yet. But still I'm pretty sure about the Vikings going there.

I take it that was a joke... right? :fuzconf:

Yes.

You hate Christmas for entirely the wrong reasons, in my opinion. I'm pretty far from Christian, but I still do my best to enjoy it. It can barely be considered a religious holiday, anyway. I also avoid most Christmas music, although some of it is really quite good, and I generally keep away from stores when I know they're going to be crowded. And pine trees? Come on, yo. Dey's da shit.

I do have a hard time NOT hating it, though. My dad becomes a whiney and self-centered asshole, my mom gets really emotional about every little thing, and my sister acts like more of a bitch than usual. My brother's pretty cool about it, but I don't see much of him. I feel like the only sane person left on Earth, come Xmas-time. Meh.

I love Independence Day. The only thing I can really think of that sucks about it is that some people inevitably act like idiots, and thus the police are forced to crack down harder than usual. But that still can't outweigh the goodness.

Hallowe'en has really become a let-down for me. I'm not into the whole Hallowe'en party thing, and nor do I feel the need to go out and commit senseless acts of vandalism like my friends. I'm a man without a country on a night that used to symbolize everything awesome childhood. Weak.

I meant that he "discovered" North america, as in wihtn the quotation marks, he didn't really discover it, thats just what the general public is led to believe. So grak to all of you and have a good night!

I completely know what you mean, Raisin. My motherwhines and cries because she says Christmas is such a pisser for her. She whines about her dislike of our family, gettinga Christmas tree, and about hopw we have very little money to get any good presents. thank god I'm spending my holiday in Boston this year. But I will miss my mom, Christmas never feels right when I am away from home on Christmas.

I'm going to Hershey for Thanksgiving!

Bonfire night is nice. What better way to contribute to global warming than have an entire country lighting huge fires to celebrate Britains triumpth over some 300 year old terrorists?

Fuzzle Guy 11-06-2005 07:20 AM

Tynwald Day. The longest running government meeting in the world. It's only on the Isle of Man, the Viking foudned it. Every year we get the fith of July off (Well the unlucky peopel who work for the Manx governmen and people who get picked to reprisent the school, for the best school on the Island (I was picked but turned it down, who wants to go to soem traditional celebration, reprisenting the school on your day off!) I never go to Tynwald on Tynwald day. Waste of time. I couldn't care if the Queen or Prince Charles is there. I might go next year but only to see what actually happens (But no way am I spending a whole day there). However I like Tynwald hill (Created by the vikings a logn time ago).

Rex Tirano 11-06-2005 09:50 AM

I heart bonfire night. All the fireworks, and the bonfires. :) And lots of cuddles, with sparklers. ^_^

But yeah, what better way to promote terrorism?

CheeseOfGlory 11-06-2005 01:43 PM

Hmm, from what I read it looks like it was first the Vikings, then the Chinese, and then Columbus. Huzzah
