THANK GOD FOR LORNE LANNING

If any one watched the G4 special on violent games you would see Lorne Lannings words of wisdom were absoulotley amazing!

Cullen Heath 10-26-2005 08:38 PM

i belive it, hes an amazing guy! well what did he say?( i dont get that channel so could you PLEASE GIVE ME ALL THE DETAILS?)

Armorslig5434 10-27-2005 02:32 AM

He said like "DOOM is a great game and if anyone thinks that video games cause kids to kill other humans it is just upsurd." and "Colombine wasn't cause by video games it was caused by kids who had acces to these wepons and irresponcible parents. Where were the parents when they were making the aresenal?"

Mudokon Princess 10-27-2005 05:01 AM

that was just an incredible show, i was getting mad at the stupid ppl blaming violence on games, when violence has been around since the creation of man! just look at cain and abel in the bible...people are sooo stupid sometimes

Wil 10-27-2005 06:38 AM

I don't think the argument is that video games cause violence but that they encourage it psychologically. Whether they do or don't is a question I'm not going to give an answer to, because I don't know. I certainly use games as a place to release violence and stress harmlessly. People who are already open to accepting violence as fun and practical because of their upbringing might be quite likely to become addicted to gore and such.

But Lorne makes an excellent point. The problem is that people have access to guns, but not to good parenting.

Xavier 10-27-2005 12:25 PM

I agree with Max, playing some violent games help me to get rid of some aggresivity I have in me (more then often caused by stress).

I'd love to see a report of the show

PS: is it me of is this interview quite old, I mean he didn't have the radical shave yet, did he?

Cullen Heath 10-28-2005 05:22 PM

hold on a sec...your saying that when you are mad and you play video games it makes you unmad(when im mad i dont play video games, because if you are mad then you are more likley to do bad on the video game then if you were happy.)

Wil 10-29-2005 04:29 AM

Absolutely I do. Doing well in the game isn't as important as blowing off steam. It's like a stress ball, except since you're blowing up people, it's more psychologically satisfying.

Cullen Heath 10-29-2005 04:52 AM

when your mad you dont do as well as when your happy.

Wil 10-29-2005 05:01 AM

Maybe not, but like I say, the game operates more as a form of entertainment and relief than something that needs to be accomplished and defeated. You play with it rather than against it.

Cullen Heath 10-29-2005 05:55 AM

yeah, I understand where your coming from.

Dipstikk 10-29-2005 09:47 AM

:

when your mad you dont do as well as when your happy.

You do when the invincibility and weapons cheat are turned on.

What? I cheat, so sue me.

LoboDiabloLoneWolf 10-29-2005 10:02 AM

LOL Dipstikk!

I use video games to realease stress. When I was younger I had this game (Jurassic Park if I remember rightly) and whenever I was stress, a few rounds of tearing humans limb from limb a a velociraptor was brilliant, and I could be as evil as I wanted because no one was actually getting hurt. So really, violent video games should reduce kids being violent.

A NYC cop once said that he loved the game GTA and he would encourage kids to play it, he said it was better that kids beat people up and steal cars on a game then do it for real.

Of course there's these people that take things too far and ruin it for the rest of use...look at Dungeons and Dragons for example, the idea was great, it was fun and it made kids use their imagination, but then some people took it too far and mixed up game with reality and ended up commiting suicide thinking they'd get resurrected... Is it just me or is Abe's respawning very similar...funny, no body here thinks they'll come back and be reformed from birds when they die do they?

Cullen Heath 10-29-2005 07:00 PM

i do..........

Oddish 10-30-2005 09:10 AM

Getting stuck in a certein bit of a game gets me stressed out, espeacially Abe's Oddysee.

Hmmm, I haven't seen Pilot in a long time.

I can well imagine. The Abe games are neither open-ended enough, nor do they give the opportunity, to kill endless swarms of Sligs, nor tear them slowly limb from limb. It's not designed to relieve stress, it's designed to offer innovative plot-driven gameplay and character-narrated “cracked mirror” social commentary.

Xavier 10-30-2005 11:22 AM

Actually I can't destress in the first part of Stranger, I always try to bounty the outlaws alive. So I can't realy destress by "simply" killing them.

anyway that's what wolvarks are for :D

Cullen Heath 10-30-2005 03:22 PM

yeah I do the same thing, sneak up and just suck em up.
(one time i beat the game with only zappflies)

HobbitNinj 11-04-2005 06:06 PM

After a bad day I love to turn to the dark side and sic fuzzles and stunks on those "innocent" clakkers:fuzmad:. Now there's a stress reliever. Muahahaha.....:flames:

Leto 11-04-2005 06:33 PM

To play violent games, one is required to desensitize. If I think about killing insects in my home too much, I go "Oh. Shit. I just finished that fly's life. :(". Whereas in video games, I'm an evil little bastard. Yes, I'm evil on fable; Yes, I killed the first NPC on Doom 3, and I enjoyed it. This hasn't effected my life at all, as I play video games purely for fun.

It all depends on the person. If the person in question wasn't particularly mentally stable before playing 'Violent Killing Spree 4: Dub Edition', perhaps they have a slightly bigger chance of being affected by it.

Cullen Heath 11-04-2005 08:54 PM

The only time I would ever kill an animal is when I'm in danger from it.
Like a few weeks ago there was a black widdow in my garage so I killed it so it wouldn't hurt anyone.

And violent video games dont effect me at all either.
