Lorne Lanning on G4 Special

Hey, not sure if you guys saw this, but G4 is airing a special about the history of violence in video games and discussing whether or not violent video games promote violence in people. Looks interesting...plus it's got Lorne Lanning in it! He's not hosting it, but he's a featured interviewee (sp?) Anyway, check out this link...

Wounderful find Oddguy.

I wounder what Lorne Lanning has to say towards this. G4 won't be shown here where I live, but an uploaded video or written inverview would be great!

Kimon 10-22-2005 12:21 PM

Indeed, I don't get G4, so if anyone wants to write up the Lorne part, that'd be awesome.

Nice find, Oddguy.

MojoMan220 10-22-2005 01:00 PM

Just saw the commercial a few hours ago. I was thinking of posting this, but I thought it was an old special (confused it with the one about sex in games). I'm really excited about it now.

Don't forget to watch the video in oddguy's link, Lorne is towards the end of it.

It confuses me really because doesen't Lorne has video game violence (Guns,Blood, etc.) in his games? Or are they talking about serious not comedy violence?

Read, silly Flordinian. And watch the video Mojo recommended.

And Lorne has said that he is not against violence in games, merely gratuitous violence. Which is a bit like saying you're fine with genocide as long as there's a good reason behind it.

metroixer 10-22-2005 03:21 PM

Ai the video does not work...Sorry.

More like saying you're fine with murder as opposed to genocide.

Dipstikk 10-22-2005 06:56 PM

So Lorne contradicts himself. Lots of people do.

Not really. Gratuitous means Unnecessary or unwarranted; unjustified (thanks dictionary.com) thus your distinction between murder and genocide is irrelevant.

And I'm not accusing him of contradicting himself. Merely saying something unintentionally humourous.

Xavier 10-23-2005 04:56 AM

I do agree with lorne...
Look at his games, there's violence in it but much more from the enemy's side then from your side. So I guess the violence Abe's uses is kind of justified, I mean, he has to survive.

I also reported this on OddBLog thanks Oddguy

Ahh, okay. I supposed gratuitous meant over the top or too much of something. My bad. Perhaps that's what he thought as well, though. That seems to be what most people think gratuitous means, at least where I'm from *coughretardvillecough*. Shrug.

Yus.

I don't see the big deal over violence in video games. I mean its a video game for peet sake ya know! But still this is a nice find Oddguy. Maybe he will discuss a little bit about whats in store for Oddworld next. I hope!

It might be the fact that young children are playing all these violent games and think it would be okay in real life. I don't know why they think that but it might be because you are killing things for the good of mankind. So the children think that killing a certain person might help our community but instead it makes it worse. Hope that can explain something.

Cullen Heath 10-23-2005 10:13 AM

Sorry but, what is G4?

metroixer 10-23-2005 10:16 AM

A video game tv channel. If you have comcast go to channel 164/162.

Kamille 10-23-2005 11:16 AM

Lorne Lanning must like G4

Cool another G4 special with Lorne Lanning my favorite was the icons episode they don't show it often and I was wondering if that was because at the end they tell you the next oddworld is already in the works, by the way this is my first thread here.

Well to be honest if someone decided to kill someone just because he or she saw it on a video game, then that person is a complete ass licker. Its common sense. And I guess the world has a lot of ass lickers in it.

Cullen Heath 10-23-2005 02:48 PM

I think violence in games is okay but to much is not.example:I was at my moms friends house the other day.My moms friend has a son and he was really nice when we got there but then he started playing this really violent ninja game and when his little sister walked in to tell us it was time for lunch he flipped out because she was blocking the screen and hit her on the back. maybe the kid was just bipolar or maybe he played that ninja game every day.
I feel bad for his sister.

Kimon 10-23-2005 02:50 PM

^Sounds like the kid is just being an older brother.^

Cullen Heath 10-23-2005 02:53 PM

no you should have seen the way he reacted and he hit her really hard.

metroixer 10-23-2005 03:05 PM

Are you talking about Ninja Gaiden? Anyway just blocking the screen seems really harsh even for a big brother. This might be a good example actually. That or he either cares to much for the game or his sister got him at a bad time..

Cullen Heath 10-23-2005 03:35 PM

how did you know it was ninja gaiden?isnt that game violent. And no I dint think she caught him at a bad time because he was pissed the rest of the day.

metroixer 10-23-2005 03:39 PM

Well ninja gaiden is the only extremely violent ninja game out there that rocks. Anyway i'm getting off topic so....Maybe he just dosen't like his sister? Huge grudge maybe? Or maybe just the game like you said....

Cullen Heath 10-23-2005 03:46 PM

No offense but I didnt really like ninja gaiden(maybe because I didnt play, I shouldnt judge)And if he did have a grudge against her I dont know why because she was really sweet and wasnt mean to him.

metroixer 10-23-2005 03:48 PM

Okay no biggie. The game did not impress me at first too because it was just my brother playing it. Anyway....Um..With the sister thing i'm fresh out sorry...

Cullen Heath 10-23-2005 03:52 PM

yeah i never got a chance to play.hey you know how you have that slig picture next to your name? how do you get pictures for your file i need one?

metroixer 10-23-2005 03:54 PM

Go to User cp and then click on edit avatar. Choices galore. Anyway aren't we going a bit off topic here?

Cullen Heath 10-23-2005 03:59 PM

yeah sorry about that I just really wanted to know.anyways I'm pretty sure It was the game. Do you have any experiences like that or any ones were someone coppied violence in a video game?
