Who has ADD/ADHD?

I've been doing a bit of research on ADD and I'm starting to think that I may have it. It certainly would explain a lot. In any case, seeing as I'm also a rabid hypocondriac, I'm going to get a specialist assessment when I get home in January.

But I wanted so survey the community:
- Who has ADD/ADHD? Which is it?
- How did you get diagnosed?
- What drugs/other treatment are you on?
- What positive/negative effects do those have?
- What is your general status of health ATM?

Thanks for your input. I know these are kinda personal questions.

EDIT: mod can you please add a question mark at the end of the title?

I have ADHD techincally, but I think it's bullshit. I don't even takre ritilin and there are people in my geometry class who pay a lot worse attention than me.

While I may not have ADD/HD, I do have something called Asperger's Syndrome. Not sure what each symptom is, but I do have a difficult time focusing on stuff.

Also, I've been told that I age a tad slower mentally then I do physically. So, I'm 19, but I think like a 17 year old (or somewhere in that area). Not sure if that's related to Asperger's or not, though, but I tell ya: I am one smart 17-in-my-mind-year-old.

CheeseOfGlory 10-19-2005 07:27 PM

Hmm, isn't Asperger's syndrome a special form of autism?

I don't have ADD to my knowledge, but I must say that adderall is a hell of a drug (it actually makes you want to do work, plus it seems to make you a lot more social/communicative)

I was reading an article about someone with Aspergers yesterday. Apparently it makes you unable to relate to other people but able to really focus on one task to the detriment of all else.

Yeah that's like autism then.

No I don't have ADD/ADHD, and I've never been anywhere near it.
Like how some people get hyped up on sugar, but it does nothing to me.

My first best-friend was diagnosed with ADD. He was a great guy, and we grew up with eachother since we were born (our mothers are friends, and still are), through primary school, and into the early years of high school. He definitely fit the book on being ADD, but I honestly can't see it being a bad thing. He refused to go to school, and as such has no formal higher education. However, his motivation is staggering when he puts his mind to it, and I can honestly see him going places. He is a lucky guy, missing out on all that school :p

I discovered a few years ago that my father has ADD as well. Although I found out through my own secretive searchings of his study, so it sort of came as a shock. But I can't see it really impeding on him, as he is an okay guy. Extremely intelligent too.

To be honest, I think the whole ADD / ADHD thing is rather flawed. I think a lot of people could be diagnosed with it, that aren't. Some people just display more of the characteristics than others, because I certainly have a hard time focusing on things, sometimes verging on the detrimental to my health side of things :p

What is ADD/ADHD?????????

What is ADD/ADHD?????????

ADD: Attention Deficit Disorder
ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyper Disorder

http://dictionary.reference.com/sear...cit%20disorder

ADHD is just a more 'hyper' form of ADD. Thus the H.

From my knowledge I do not have add/adhd. Though one of my best friends has it. He pays more attention in class than me.:)

You are saying exactly what I mean. Most people lose focus in school. Not because they have a problem with their brain, but because it's so boring.

I know one thing about ADD and that is that i most definatly do no...Wow! That saucepan is shiny.

That reminds me of the episode of South Park where the doctor tests the kids for ADD by reading them Crime and Punishment. When they find it boring, he prescribes ritalin.

In any case, inattention in school is only one thing they look at for ADD.
This website has 78 symptoms to judge. I had about 30 items with a score of 3 or more (>20 implies ADD).

Oh my god, I saw that episode like last night or something.

My mother thinks she has Adult ADD, but I think thats just her personality.

Abeguy 10-22-2005 06:51 AM

actulley adhd is the adult term for it add is the kid/teen form of it
adult deficant hyperactivity disorder (or something like that
My English teacher has it, she's really funny

Nate 10-22-2005 03:20 PM

Rubbish Abeguy. There is ADD and Adult ADD. adult deficant hyperactivity disorder would imply that someone was Adult deficient.

ADD and ADHD are actually different conditions. That surprised me - I always thought they were offshoots of each other. Check it out: http://www.allthingswell.com/addandadhd.cfm.

That's entirely untrue.
