Really Really Smart Stuff

Well some one had to do it. I was wondering what you guys thought of some of the more technical things in life. History, Science, history, philosphy, history, etc, history. For example what do any of you think about evolution vs creation vs the not so popular itelligent design theories. Or my personal favorites of M-theory, superstring, and String thoeries.

*Sigh*

Smart stuff? This whole forum is for smart stuff, making a thread for it is bottlenecking. You can't just discuss all these vast, intricate theories and whatnot in a few posts, which is why people make threads for specific ideas.

But anyway, care to explain the string theory(s)?

Cyber-Slig 10-17-2005 06:09 PM

I don't go for the history stuff much. I'm good with Mythology though if that counts.

I agree with Kimono. I am not discouraging your thread, I am saying there's so much philosophy and other deep and random topics that it would be like trying to pour a gallon of water into a paper cup!

Well the string theory is a leading candiate in "theory of everything" aka the final merging of quantum physics and general relativity. The string theory in short says that all thing (sub-atomic particles, everything) are made up of small vibrating strands of energy known as string. They are so small however that if you blew up an atom to the size of the solar system they would be the size of a tree.

What is further more intresting is the fact that the string theory relies on having 11 dimsension in total 10 of spacial dimensions and 1 of time. I not making this up. Also alternate universes play by means of it being impossible to locate a electrons exact location, it is beleived that it is acyually in more than one place at one time, belived to be in another universe. Know this sounds like science fiction but according to most cosmologists like Stephen Hawkings believe this is the future of physics.

I can go into it further if you like but I didn't want to bore anyone to death.
Oh and Cyber Slig is there a particular type of Mythology you are intrested in? Recently I have been trying to do some Norse and Celtic Mythology.

Cyber-Slig 10-17-2005 10:38 PM

Mainly Greek Mythology. I do a little Norse.

I like the idea of string theory to a degree.

As for 10 (or 26) dimentions, I can think of 6... and that's not including time.

That means, there's at least 3 more I can't comprehend (and Time, but I don't like the idea of that as a dimention).

God vs. Evolution: I think our biology lecturer said it best when she told us "We do not believe life comes spontainiously from non-life" (i.e. it all had to start somewhere)

Religion vs. Science: Well, think if science as a religion (since it answers the big questions, but can only be verified by itself) and it all starts making sence.

Yeah, tell me more about Physics! Befor I started Med-school, I did a little Physics at the Uni. And I still like Physics very much!

So, what dimensions are there? Adder? Shadowman?
