Can someone help me out here? (Emergency I say!!)

Okay well I was just gonna play my not played Abe's Exoddus game on the comp. (2 years actually) and it just froze!! Now i'm like "Okay no biggy I will try again tomorrow". Soon disaster struck every single bloody game I play on the comp it freezes! Do I have a virus? Somebody please help me or else I might have to get rid of all my perfect scored games for new ones! Or if it is a virus what can I do!?!?

Get a virus scanner.

metroixer 10-08-2005 04:31 PM

I do have a virus scanner. It scannned no viruses an hour ago, and I doubt it got through the mail since I did not go to my account today...

Update/replace your videocard drivers? And give us some more info like OS, any error messages, blah blah blah

Dino 10-08-2005 05:35 PM

How old is your computer, and what version of windows are you running? Nobody can diagnose your problem properly until you give us all the necessary information.

How much RAM?
What processor? How fast?
What graphics card? Do you have driver software installed and updated?
Have you ever been able to play games on that computer before?

I think we can rule out the possibility of a virus at this stage.

I normally found the graphic card to be the source of most of my game problems, so that should probably be it. Good luck.

Okay I played games on my comp before,I have windows XP,I also have comcast and Norton antivirus if that can tell you anything.I don't know when it has been updated, but I did not get the computer used. I don't know about the graphic crad though. I'll look into that.

T-nex 10-09-2005 06:20 AM

I'm pretty sure you can find out what graphic-card you have and stuff if you click the Start button, and then click "Run", then you write "DxDiag"... blah blah...

Doesn't AE not work with XP?

T-nex 10-09-2005 07:03 AM

Well, for some it does... But none of Metroixer's games work.. i guess.

nads 10-09-2005 09:24 AM

I've given up playing PC games all together. My computer played:

1) StarCraft
2)Warcraft 3 + Expansion
and 3) BF1942

and I'm not going to risk having to pay another hundred upgrading it to play more.

I gave up on mine when it was brand new and could only just handle the Sims 2. Now I play old school shit like C&C Tiberian Sun and Civilization 2. :p

Hobo 10-09-2005 11:42 AM

Moving to zulag 1. Probably, Xav move back if disputed.

Tiberrian sun rules :). Anyway now only AE isn't working. MEh my computer just must has been screwy that time. It is 5 years old anyway....

Cause:

Hardware compatibility issues - your graphics card, processor, and memory are out of date and not compatible with your software.

Best solution;

Get a new computer.

Mojo 10-10-2005 11:30 AM

Dude, AE is, how old? I mean, I could play AE and AO on my P2 266MHz! And I had a graphics card of a whopping 4 Mb!

Leeum 10-12-2005 09:58 AM

Well for starters, it won't work with XP. You can right click it and under compatibility set it to run under something like Windows 95/ 98, it works for some people.

If you wanna check for a virus properly... turn off system restore and when the computer boots up hit F8/ F9 (I just smack in the section of the keyboard with those buttons on) Do a full virus scan with an up to date scanner and it'll find any crap on there.

A new computer would also help ;)

I'm still going with mine although it costs an arm and a leg as I seem to water cool them all ;)

I've just won £500 worth of prices in a competition so I'll have another one built soon lol

metroixer 10-12-2005 11:25 AM

Arm and a leg eh? Now I want scrab cakes.... Anyway AE is now working also! Thanks for everyones help!

EDIT:Well will you look at this? My scanner just found a virus! The little bugger is dead now but i'm sure it created the problem and then tried not leaving any mark behind! Explains why it happened so fast.Well yea that must have been that problem...

Adder 10-23-2005 10:39 AM

AE has a horribel habit of not working on most XP (it works on mine... which is starting to get scary.)

Norton has a horrible habit of being killed by virusiis before it can warn you about them (thats how my PC died... the first time).

Also, remember that some programmes (not sure if it includes Norton) will scan for virusiis but not spyware.
