Is there going to be more Oddworld?
Ever since Stranger came out I have wondered if Oddworld will continue. I also know of what happened at OWI and I am concerned on weather or not Oddworld will continue in the future. Do any of you guys on the forums know anything whats in store for the Odd? I understand that Lanning wants to move on but are we for certain that we will see more Oddworld in the years to come? I also understand about a movie but how certain are we on this?
Please somebody help me out here so I can understand whats going on. |
A tough question to answer because we don't know anything beyond what Lorne has said in interviews.
We know that he wants to work on a movie at the moment. We also know that they may work on more games in the future by outsourcing the work to other companies, much like American McGee did with Bad Day LA. But it's all speculation until they make an official press release. |
its hard to say, i dont predict the future, maybe, then again maybe not, he might sell the rights to another company

He would never sell the rights to another company. He may license another company to use the Oddworld brand but he would keep a close eye on them.

I sincerely hope to see more Oddworld games in the future. In a world full of "run of the mill" games with companies recycling the same ideas over and over again, Oddworld has certainly been a breath of fresh air for those who love orginality and characters who are as unique as they are lovable.

But I'm also going insane. I LOVE Oddworld, and lack of news is killing me. Have the started production of a movie, do they have plans for new games, are they going to get the old team back together... *Sigh* God have mercy on our souls and give us a scrapful tidbit of info as to what's going on! :( |
I think we have to wait until winter for some decent oddworld news. I think they still are planning or making decisions, they are a new oddworld so they're probably taking time to try new stuff and feel confortable.
I'm just getting into other things at this moment until oddworld get back on. :fuzsmile: |

I know how you feel, Kimon. The erogance is killin' me fer s'more Oddworld news of what Lorne's gonna do. But I do agree with what Oddish is sayin': Maybe they're just trying to fit in and get comfortable. Who knows when he'll reply to all his impatient fans on what he really is gonna do. |

Whatever Lanning decides on doing, he'll let us all know...hopefully...I think the worst thing that could happen is him to quit all together and not tell us about it...
We'd have to do a internet based protest...:D Although, if he really is moving on to new media (ie movies) let's hope he finds someone who can get liscence of Oddworld and do something truely Odd with it in the games arena. I know of a few people on here that could get it back on track. *cough*Dipstikk*cough* ;) |

I've personally started to take more interest in other games... since I have the feeling the "General Oddworld Discussion" will have to take a long journey trough the dezert again.
But my soul still belongs to Oddworld ;) So if anything is moving I'll be among the first ones to report it on the Forums or OddBlog :) |

I'm disheartened because there are only little tidbits of information in the Xbox magazines I get, and there hasn't been anything for a long time. I'm just hoping that some news is released soon. |
Yes we all wish for Oddworld's return but it is becoming a slimmer chance work will continue every day. I see this image of a wounded Alf, gasping for breath like in a drama movie. He draws me close to his ear and says "Watch over the forums for me," Then he passes away and the dramatic Adigo starts playing. While I hope that this will never happen, if Oddworld is over, heaven forbid, it will not go out in a bang but in a whimper. It would just be forgotten. Maybe Citzen Seige will come into play who knows. It seems Lorne is like a story writers mind, juggling all possible events that he could have happen in his story. Some times he favors one, and other times another thus you get claims to thousands of titles

Its driving me crazy as well :/, its very disheartening to not be hearing anything as of yet, but I did see Lorne on G4 on Saturday, but it was on the history of the playstation

I guess the idea is that Lorne said he was working on a movie, and we won't hear anything more until that's finalized and there's no doubt it will come out. He has caught some flak in the past for announcing project ideas and then not following up for whatever reason, so keeping quiet isn't necessarily a bad idea. It doesn't get our hopes up overmuch.
But with all the wierd stuff that happened before the news stopped (fangus, for one) i'd feel more confident if there were any news at all. Before Stranger we were in an informational vacuum as to what would be in the game. Now we're in limbo about whether or not there are any projects, or even a company. I don't need much at this point. Even a simple "we haven't given up" would suffice. |

When the first one came out they said there was going to be a series of five with new characters each time. We got one Abe adventure, then another one because it was so popular, then that was it for the nice 2D world adventures.
I feel that there are probably a lot of good ideas for games being unwritten by a market saturated with mediocre sports games and shoot em ups, run by corporations serving the interests of the economy, rather than a medium for creativity and ingenuity. Abe is coming back to the PSP, I intend to infiltrate the headquarters of Microsoft and rescue him, because Abe actually exists in real life, but he is in another spatial dimension, anyone with me? |
I'm with you about Abe being real stringsleeves, and volsung I think your totaly right when you said that we should keep quiet about new projects because if everyone is talking about new oddworld projects and it gets around to Lorne it would ruin the surprise so he would want to cansel that project. (I'm not going against Lorne, I would probably do the same thing)

Even if Oddworld Inhabitants discontinues the Oddworld games I don't think it's actually 'die', I mean, we'd all remember it and continue to play our old games. Just because there's no new games or movies, doesn't mean that Oddworld'll die, it'll just get a bit dusty. :D Either way I still thnik I'll be a fan of Oddworld. Even so, it would be nice to get of information limbo...:rolleyes:
