Psychonaughts- Just how creepy does it get?

I have just rented Psychonaughts (FINALLY!), and I just passed the Lungfishopolis level (A great parody, I might add, of the Giant Monster movies). Now, I went to a friend for help, as I was stuck at the point with the muttering guard by the gate.

My friend has warned me that the game gets really creepy from this point. Now, me being the kind of guy who shits himself during any suspenseful scene in a movie (regardless of whether it's a horror movie or not), I would like to know just how creepy it gets and what we're talking about here in therms of content.

I'm going to bed, but I'll check this in the morning, and the possibility of me continuing this game depends on what you guys tell me.

If you don't want to type it here for spoiler reasons, feel free to PM me.

I also declaire this the official Psychonaughts thread, since I couldn't find the other one.

There's no G in Psychonauts. And there's only one H. I am the bitchy pointer out of mistakes. Fear me.

Creepy is correct (or eerie, which would be my first choice). Terrifying it is not. There won't be any Silent Hill monsters jumping at you around corners or that type of thing. I don't... think. :dodgy:

You will find The Milkman Conspiracy eerie though. And Thorney Towers is mighty weird.

Don't neglect your bacon. I would never have figured some things out without that bacon.

Dipstikk 07-26-2005 08:01 AM

Wow, this finally gets a reply.

Yeah, I did play through the Milkman Conspiracy. That damn Denmother was a pain in the ass, though.

I had to take the game back, but I'll rent it again soon.

Did you not LOVE the G Men?! :D

Why not buy it?

What are you? A salesman?

I am a road crew worker. I work in the road crew. This is my red stopsign. It helps me in my work in the road crew. Greetings, fellow road crew worker. Welcome to the road crew.

Yes, spam indeed. Stop it.

I loved the G Men, mostyly because of my rabid love of Steven Jay Blum's voice.

"Look at those woman's breasts. They are large." :D

It's good that they had so many good actors in the cast, something I'm sure Oddworld could easily benifit from.

I'm not saying Lanning's a terrible voice actor (he has improved tremendously), but he's not great.

I was also amazed at how serious Richard Horvitz's voice was as Raz.

Dino 07-26-2005 05:10 PM

Lanning did the Oddworld voices?

Dipstikk 07-26-2005 05:12 PM

Yeah, he said something about it being "More convenient" than relying on other people.

used:) 07-26-2005 05:15 PM

Most of them for that matter, and I think he's pretty damn good. I wopuld have never guessed he did Phleg AND Abe.

Wow, I suddenly have far less respect for the guy. He didn't come across as the type to do that sort of thing when I met him at E3.

For a game, he's great. In my opinion, he does a great job anyway, but that's not my point. Voice acting in games is far too often crap. It's almost as if many actors try to suck with their overacting/underacting. People actually pay these bastards for what they themselves could do, and probably a lot better. It's not my fantasy to play a soap opera star. This laziness is making it more difficult for the real innovators of gaming, who want to be taken seriously.

On topic: Psychonauts is neat.

Dino 07-27-2005 09:46 AM

I must say I didn't have a problem with any of the vocals. I just never realised that Lorne did them himself.

I must say, as far as voice acting in games goes, the only thing that beats Oddworld voices is Beyond Good and Evil. I absolutely love Lorne's many, many voices, Grubbs in particular.

Anyway, back to the topic.... I have never played Pyschonauts. Hmmm. It looks cool though, I'll make a point of renting it next time I am at my local Blockbuster Video video renting bazaar. :D

Dipstikk 07-27-2005 10:19 AM

I'm not saying he's not good aty vocal diversity. He does many voices, that's true.

But he doesn't act very well, at least not as well as he could. But this is my personal opinion.

And like I said, he has gotten tremendously better since Abe's Oddysee.

Hobo 07-27-2005 12:55 PM

On topic people!

Agent-Sarah 08-02-2005 05:56 PM

I rented the game and I'm almost done with it (the last level is a pain...).

SeaRex 08-02-2005 07:13 PM

I finally got around to finishing the game, and holy sweet crap... the last bit of the game was EXCELLENT. I mean, the majority of the game was just alright. Great art style, but sub-par graphics and derivative gameplay.

But Jesus, once you get to Thorny Towers...

Black Velvetopia, Waterloo World, and the inner bowels of the asylum were some of the most well-designed and creative (and in the case of the asylum... creepy and surreal) levels I've ever played.

Meat Circus was pretty cool, too. I didn't find it as hard as I thought I would, though. After hearing everyone say how near-impossible it was to finish, it almost left me saying... you know... "Is that it? That wasn't SO bad."

Agent-Sarah 08-02-2005 07:26 PM

Black Velvetopia and Waterloo World has to be my favorite levels in that game.

Dipstikk 08-07-2005 10:12 AM

Hey, I'm trying to beat Napoleon at the game. I'm on the soldier who wants a weapon of some kind. He says it's in a building in some hay.

Problem is, I can't remember which building it is or how to get to it. Can someone help me out?

SeaRex 08-07-2005 06:16 PM

It's in the Castle gates. Get as high as you can on the hill, and levitate to the Napoleon flag pole. At the top of the pole there is a tightrope. Balance across to the left rooftop. They'll be some figments and crap in the window, but it's not where the rifle is.

Anyway, take out the Censors, jump/levitate onto the bar hanging over the castle gate, and use it to propel yourself over to the vine trellis (you hang onto it) on the right rooftop. Take out the censors on that rooftop, then levitate into the open window to find the barn.

Jarnww 08-07-2005 06:16 PM

Err....Let's see. You first look for that house. The description is pretty vague, I remember all of the houses having hay on them. Okay, look for one with some exclaimation point or something over the house. Shrink there. Talk to the guy. He'll tell you what to do. If my description wasn't enough, go to gamefaqs.

Oh yea, about creepyness, When your at the asylum, look at the clouds.

Thanks, guys. Would you believe that I actually got it at least an hour and a half after I posted this?

But thanks. Anyway, I'm on Meat Circus. I dunno, I mean I like the look of the level, but it's really tough. Plus I'm kicking myself for not going back to cam after the "point of no return." Dammit, I wanted to do things still!

... and try to burn that Bobby Zilch kid. Damned slope-jawed q-tip. Tell me there's still a chance to go back to camp...

By the way, what was in the clouds? I wasn't looking, pretty much has my hands full with the rats.

Jarnww 08-07-2005 06:42 PM

Sorry if this post is short.

The clouds have human faces on them, some look scared, some look angry, some look sad, It's not scary, but it creeped me out a bit. And don't worry about Meat Circus. It's hard, but not unbeatable. Also, did you talk to that robot gypsy outside the circus? You can redeem the brains, cards and other stuff there.

Dude, that happens all the time.

It's like there is some unwritten law out there that once you plea for help with a video game in a forum, you will automatically be able to get past the troublesome bit in question, no matter how stuck you thought you were, the very next time you play the game.

I swear, happens to me EVERY TIME.

Dipstikk 08-19-2005 02:12 PM

This website says that, in order for the cheats to work, I have to hold down both trigger buttons. But I am, and they still don't work.

Do I just click them and release before typing in the cheat, or hold them in the whole time?

Edit: Searex's Law of Getting It Right After You Ask has struck again. :D

Neva mind, bee-otches.
