Favorite Genre Of Game

Whats your favorite genre of game? By genre i mean, Fantasy, horror, Also like FPS (first person shooter), platform. Say why you like them too :)

Mine is probably Fantasy Platform.
Because fantasy is different from everything else and they are usually fun.

Leto 07-17-2005 12:12 AM

I like first person games. Not first person shooters in particular, but I love first person games because of the immersion invovled. Morrowind and Daggerfall especially.

Rich 07-17-2005 12:19 AM

Anything, from Metal Gear Solid to Crash Bandicoot.

First person shooters are fun with your friends, but there is immense fun be had playing FF7, so I'll play anything good. :)

Yeah most Final fantasy games are fun :p I tend to play any game. But hardly ever racing games, I dont like them much.

Leto 07-17-2005 12:26 AM

Yeah, racing games are really quite crap. Imagination has to be implemented for it to actually be fun. Gripshift, Chocobo Racing, etc... Those were good. But all these generic racing games suck.

Yeah, the older Final Fantasys were cool. :D

Yeah thats what i mean. Proper racing games suck, But the fun ones dont :p
FF7 and 8 i think are probably the best. I havnt really thought about it so im not too sure.

Leto 07-17-2005 12:40 AM

Yeah, I liked Final Fantasy VIII the most. VII was ok, but meh. VIII teh pwnzor.

But after that... *shudorz* Terrorness. FF9, FF10 and FF10-2 really, really sucked (PLEASE DONT KILL ME ABE BABE). Just, I guess the design got less cool and more sort of 'OMG im liEk ARPEGEE!!'.

Rich 07-17-2005 12:44 AM

No Sir! 10 is my favourite after 7! Despite all the shitzorz stuff, the story is really good!

But yeah, 10-2 spoiled it. :(

Exactly what i was going to say. With 10-2 I think they took it too far.

You sir, are the spawn of Satan. Good day.

*Benny Hill Theme*

Yeah, 10-2 was geek pornography.

Simulation? Like, the Sims? or SimAnt? :p

By action adventure, do you mean like Second Sight? Or like Conker Live and Uncut?

Answer 1: Like the Sims, i have Sim Ants for SNES, it's a dumb game, I don't like it.

Answer 2: Like Conker Live and Uncut. :)

I am SO pwnzor.

*Benny Hill Theme*

But c'mon, how can you not like SimAnt? :p

Abe16 07-17-2005 01:44 AM

Well, Sim ant is just about being some ant who does dirty work for a queen. Get food, scout around, fight, and guard the queen. I also hate sim earth. It's pointless.

I like shoot-em ups/beat-em ups, especially when you play with your friends. Like Timesplitters, Dynasty Warriors... So on so forth.

However, I like role-playing games when you have total control. Like Morrowind or Lineage.

- Rexy

Leto 07-17-2005 02:08 AM

Yeah. Timesplitters is the best non id software shooter ever. :)

I like exploration games. Like Morrowind, or its far more restricted retarded half brother, Fable. But games where you get an entire world to explore are the most attractive to me.

I highly enjoy rpgs most of all. But not rpg's that are all kooky and stuff. I also like fighting gmes, the story line sucks, but it's damn fun! I also like the occasional strategy game and one of my new favorite genres is DDR and stuff.

Umm... do you even need to ask? My favorite (sub)genre of gaming is Survival Horror. I also have a penchant for online FPS games. And as always, I love Adventure games like Zelda.

used, RTS = Real Time Strategy. Starcraft, etc.

By the way, this topic would have been great as a poll.

I dont like horror games much. Mainly because they scare the crap out of me. Zelda is really, really good. When i got Majoras mask on N64 i played it everyday for ages :p I thought that being a Goran, Deku Shrub, And the water people (cant remember thier names) was so cool!

Oddish 07-17-2005 10:37 AM

I like Stealth, Adventure, Strategy, Driving, Fantasy, and Action.

odd chick 07-17-2005 12:00 PM

I like many different genres of gaming. My favorites are action-platformer and adventure, (Like Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper and Zelda-those are just a few of my favorites in those two genres.) but I also like stealth and FPS also. (Splinter Cell and Metroid being my favorites in those categories. ;))

MojoMan220 07-17-2005 12:09 PM

I cannot get enough of first person shooters. I own all the big names, Halo 2, Half-life 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, Doom 3, etc. Perhaps the reason I like them so much, is because you're in total control, looking at the world through your own eyes, not manipulating some character from a helicopter. Every genre is fine with me, as long as the execution is good. I never limit myself.

Hobo 07-17-2005 12:10 PM

FPS's RPGs and Strategy are my mainstays. mainly the former two. But i'm pretty open to most games.

T-nex 07-17-2005 12:14 PM

I really like fantasy-games and RP-games... Like Morrowind. I also like games like Myst.
My favourite FPS was Alien VS Predator. I played it when i was younger, and it scared me as hell.

Ditto. I love immersive gaming experiences, so first person games are always appealing. I guess its the closest we have to commercial VR right now.

TheRaisin 07-17-2005 10:01 PM

What in the world is a "fantasy" game?

I'm going to say my favorite genre is that of the FPS. The gameplay just beats the heck out of that of any other genre, I feel, and FPSs can have some great storylines if they're well done. Online multiplayer is sweet, as well.

My second favorite genre would be third-person shooters. Really good third-person shooters seem few and far between, but the ones I've found kick ass. Metal Arms has fairly decent gameplay (although mind-numbingly repetitive), and possessing robots with a little grappling arm thing is just damn cool (although chances to do it in the game are waayyy to sparse). Advent Rising, on the other hand... that game flat-out kicks ass. Jedi-like psychic powers combined with cool futuristic weapons, a flick-targeting system, melee abilities, and a thrilling sci-fi story line (ORSEN SCOTT CARD, YO!) adds up to one hell of a game.

My third favorite would be action/platform/adventure (I think that fits) type games, of which I own several. If the gameplay is at all innovative, such as in Psychonauts, they can turn out to be quite enjoyable, or at least not TOO boring.
