Staff Shifting and New Positions
 

For quite sometime now the Oddworld Forums have been overstaffed. While this has meant we have had plenty of supervision of forums, it has come to the point where the forums are no longer in need of as many staff members. Coincidentally, many staff members no longer show up. So now it comes time to shift, basically every position in the forums. Most of the current Moderators have been relieved of their of duties, and most of the positions will not be filled up again (at the current time, anyway).

We have decided to relieve the following Moderators of their duties:

• Alector (Fan Corner)
• Disgruntled Intern (Off-Topic Discussion)
• Majic (Off-Topic Discussion)
• Max the Mug (General Discussion, Spoiler Forum)
• oddguy (General Discussion, Spoiler Forum, Fan Corner)
• The Red Muse (Oddworld RPG)

In addition, this means that T-nex will become officially the proper Moderator for Oddworld RPG. While I'm at it, I'd like to congratulate her on her tremendous effort. Oddworld RPG is actually booming for once in its history, and I honestly owe her a great deal of respect. (Yes, I've been meaning to thank you for sometime now :P)

I mentioned we would be promoting four members. This is a little trickier to explain, as it involves a lot of shifting power, so bear with me. To start things off, and to distinguish those with total Administrative control, I will be promoted to Administrator along with Abe Babe. It is nothing more than a title change, for Super Moderator and Administrator have always had the same powers - until now. A new usergroup will be created, and we'll be calling that the 'Global Moderators' or GMOD for short. They will sit inbetween Administrators and Super Moderators. Effectively, they are what Super Moderator (while I occupied the position) were, except Administrative access will be dulled down a bit to maintain the gap between Administrator and Global Moderator, as well as maintain security over the OddNet. Super Moderators will be reserved for members who take charge of entire categories, or in our instance, 'Zulags'.

To make this simpler to understand, I'll put it in a list format:

1. Administrator (total Administrative control)
2. Global Moderator (restricted Administrative control, complete all-forum control)
3. Super Moderator (complete category-forums control)
4. Moderator (complete forum-on-forum basis control)

And the part you've all been waiting for! The actual people who will be promoted! Yay!

• SeaRex (Global Moderator)
• Xavier (Zulag One Super Moderator)
• Hobo (Zulag Two Super Moderator)
• Rich (Off-Topic Moderator)

Basically, SeaRex is now your number one man when Abe Babe or myself are not around. He'll have complete forum access, so if you're naughty, he'll have the authority and power to ban you should he see fit. Our two new Super Moderators will have the same powers as Moderators, except they will now have those powers spread over all the forums in their respective categories / Zulags. Essentially, when there are disagreements, the Super Moderator has the higher authority than the Moderator. But I doubt such problems should arise. And Rich has been made Off-Topic Moderator, as that is the forum with the highest activity, and now being two Moderator less, even with a new Global and Super Moderator, I believed it neccessary to appoint a full-time Off-Topic Moderator.

Out of interest, what's happening with the third OT mod, are we still going for one whenever it is that the mod elections come around, or is that position off now that we've got two mods in different timezones?

We have three. I am the third, Searex and Rich are the other two.

You have no idea :P Having to choose people and still keep friends, tough decisions, even if they are cyber-pals.

Just so everyone knows, I'll still be visiting, because I've still got to moderate new members and such, but honestly SeaRex is in charge of things forum / user wise. If you need things changed on styles, and that kind of stuff, just post in FS&H like normal and I'll see what I can do.

Also, I know that after people have been newly appointed, that confusion can arise from hoe much power they have or don't have. SeaRex, IS now, THE person in charge (myself and Abe Babe aside), I trust in his judgement, so don't come whining to me (unless, you know, he bans Ambi for arguing with him! :P). Other than that, I've outlined how the rank system works, with Super Moderators being the next down, and then Moderators.

Everything should be taken care of now. I may have missed something, so should anyone's titles be incorrect, they don't have EL access, or Mod powers, please PM me, as it was a lot of work to do (and even now I've just remembered to do something).

EDIT: So basically, you would be the guy who handles custom titles, technical forum jibjab, and whatnot... correct? And Searex is just like, the guy who bans idiots.

Yes. Although I'll see as it progresses whether I give SeaRex the ability to not only ban users, but to edit them - such that he would too have control over custom titles, and user stuff like that.

But technical stuff like backing up, all that jazz will be left to me. I doubt SeaRex is willing to spend the next three years wasting his time learning the wonderful web languages, server stuff, etc. Dealing with people comes naturally though.

It's been a while since I've used vBulletin but does it still let you give people all sorts of fancy colours? If so do you think you could give Searex the power to give people that sort of stuff, or would the coding be too strange and cause the forums to be sucked into a singularity?

Speaking of all that technical online mumbo-jumbo, what happened to that Stranger's Wrath template we were promised? In MARCH? ;)

Oddworld RPG is really going up now. I can hardly keep up with other RPers. T-nex has a load of work in the RPG rules and all, and more and more people come to play. I wonder what the Main RPG will be like?

We reserve colours for those members who occupy Moderator, Super Moderator, Global Moderator , Admnistrator, and Special Members. Giving them to everyone will cause a general eye-sore, and break the continuity of our rank system.

That being said, SeaRex is not going to give out custom titles left, right and center. Only those that deserve them will get them, and even then we have to decide who gets them to make sure that not everyone has one. Otherwise the point of showing off good members is lost.

I've always encouraged people to question my decisions. Because it not only allows people to express their own thoughts, but it makes me look at my own decisions more than once in a different light. For example, the thread you just posted on a games forum, initially I read the first few sentences and thought "this ain't happening while I live". But reading on and listening to all the very good reasons, I was actually thinking to myself why I wouldn't want to go through with it. And so now we're discussing a games forum :p

Right, right... my question was really more wondering if it could still be done, than actually suggesting that it be done. I used to do it on my forum, and used it similarly to the custom title - when I felt it was time to give a noteworthy member recognition, and they already had a custom title, I'd offer them a colour for their name or custom title, and they could pick any colour they wanted - very few ever got it, but "the gang" as I called them, the top 10 or so noteworthy members all had their colours on show. To save confusion between these members and the mods, the mods were denoted with different coloured rank stars.

This is of course true! But that particular time I didn't really have any right to question you, because I was doing so on the basis that you weren't here often, when actually you're easily here often enough to make a judgement about who would be better suited to being a mod.

I believe that all ideas and thoughts should be posted anyway, for the same reasons you pointed out. It's better to post them and find out whether they're worth a dime or not, than it is to not bother and potentially miss out on something important.

Congratulations to all those that now have to exert effort polishing the Oddworld Forums and offering themselves to Peter. Your work relieving the shagged out old foggies like myself will be much appreciated.

Ah well, you wouldn't want me in charge of anything, I might leave the forums to disaster or go off on some sort of crusade of sorts against people just like my 18th great grandfather Lord Ashby and end up killing 12 people for my own quest for glory. Plus with me in power I would most likely seek revenge on the pervious Moderators and such, well since the old moderators are just regular members again its time for...REVENGE!!! But I am not in the mood right know
