What's you home like?
Very much inspired by the "What Do You Look Like" thread (seeing people in their homes n' stuff), I'm constantly curious about what kind of houses/neighborhoods all my forum homies live in. I always get an image of what people's homes look like in my mind, but I very much doubt it's anywhere close to the real thing.
I myself live in "The City", but it's a residential area, so it's pretty much just whole buncha houses, no big buildings around me (for at least a mile or so, anyway). There's a lot of three-story houses on my street, some are two-flats, most are single person homes (my area consists of Irish Catholics, so they need the space :p). I've got a three-story house myself, which is quite large for only 3 people (myself, my aunt, y mi madre). I'll try to get a pic or more soon. EDIT: I should add, just for purpose of interest, that it's a Victorian style home a big ol' slanted roof and 3 chimneys. It's roasty-toasty in the winter. :D So please do post; I'm interested to see what all you other folks' hood'z iz like. :) |
My home is simple. Brick house, backyard, big tree in front yard, On the inside we got the living room, where our first computer is, that's my little bros, then my dad's office, there's my computer and my dad's. then you go across and there's the kitchen. A stove, fridge ect. We got a pantry, then the dining room, in there I keep my fish, and there's the door to the backyard. it's got muddy toys we keep there, a broken down hot tub from the last guy who lived here, we just got a tree cut down. back in the house we have, 'The Family room.' Very different from the Living room. We play there, watch TV, oh yeah, in the living room I keep my X-box in there. Now if you got back to the main entry way, you find the Laundryroom, washingmachine ect. It leads into the grage, we have 4 cars. My dad's work car, the family car, the old family car, then my mom and dad's old volkswagon. Back in the hallway, you also see our room. It has a bunkbed, closet, pants closet, back in the hallway, the bathroom, then my sister's room, she's out in Flordia working her butt off, so we wait here waiting for her return. Then my parents room, they have a bathroom in there where my Mom and baby brother use only becuase my mom says we're too messy. I have no idea what she means. That's the tour of our house.

Cool, cool. But what I'm actually more interested in the architectural styles and features (e.g. how many floors, what style of home) and what kind of neighborhood you live in.
But your post is still good too, I GUESS.... :p |

Good thread concept Kimon. :)
I live in a big house on the edge of town. It's victorian, detatched, four storeys including the attic. My bedroom is the attic, which is quite a modern, minimalist space but still interesting. It has one main level with doors onto the flat part of the roof, that functions kinda like a balcony, and a set of stairs within my room to the observation platform, which is just another bit of higher up part of flat roof that you can walk out on to. Above everything is the flat roof, which has a ladder outside that you can climb up to get onto it - but there's so little point in going up there unless you're pissed off and want to escape. I've slept up there in my tent a few times. My room has an en suite which is next to the stairs down, and next door to that is the observatory, which is just basically a glass dome that was used as an observatory by the first owners of the house in victorian times. The other side of the en suite is the staircase down to my own personal lounge space, which has game systems, flatscreen TV, various forms of fancy ambient lighting, a comfy sofa, DVD player, sound system, drinks cooler, and a nice big skylight and window directly underneath that which reaches down to the floor level, which I quite like cause it looks funky - it's generally just an area for me and my friends to chill out the way of my bedroom. My bed is actually a kind of flat hammock, which I unhook and roll up out the way while not in use. So really my bedroom doesn't actually look like a bedroom when I'm not sleeping in it. My desk and computer is sat in the observatory - the desk was actually purpose made to fit the observatory and computer without looking like a desk - it really just suspends the keyboard, monitor, mousepad, and PC in "mid air", thereby not obstructing the view. Then there's the laptop, which I sometimes hook up to the interweb and take out onto the balcony, or upper flat roof, depending on how nice the day is. That flat roof I tell ya, that's the secret to getting an even tan. ;) Oh, also, all my storage space is recessed into the walls and hidden with doors, so the space is always quite open and minimal. That should give you a picture of where I live. As for the actual area, trees, is about all I can say. That and, hills. There's lots of both. It's a nice area, and I have no idea how we can afford to live here. But for some reason we can and do, so I guess I should just shut up and be happy. :p I'll upload this paint illustration of my room... just in case you didn't get the description. I doubt you'll be able to make heads or tails of this crappy sketch either, but, meh, it's better than nothing. |
I would post more about the rest of the house but it's so HUGE and so difficult to describe that I'd be going on for another 2 pages. When we bought the house the estate agent's leaflet for the house was like a small book.
We got a walk in cooled pantry, huge stove, big kitchen space, really big, open dining room area, same for the lounge, and there's a few other rooms that have strange names and purposes, which we've turned into games rooms, bedrooms to let, and other bits and pieces. OH! And there's gargoyles. :p Lots of little ones, barely noticeable but they're there, mostly at the edges of cornices and other masonry. The house was originally built for a bit of a nutty professor, so go figure. |
Looks like you live in a mansion, a big, giant, big, really big mansion,
|
It's not that big, it's just a large house. You do get used to it after a while, and eventually you don't really notice the size.
|
Dino, I want your house. Move it here.
I live in two places, but the second one is really easy to describe, so... The first place is a big house in the middle of the forest. It was built in 1901 and used after that as the workplace for a tailor. We have just a few neighbours who hate our guts. It's a pretty large house, but most of it has been added by the previous owner and my dad. We have a pretty neglected yard, with very little grass and some wild flowers growing here and there. It has 2 stories and 5 bedrooms, two of them still not finished. We have a very large kitchen/diningroom, not finished yet. But no one complains, wallpaper from 1960 with childish crayon paintings on it is cool. ;) Both of our computers are in a little room right next to the kitchen, it's just a hole in the wall between them. The top floor is mostly wooden. We have a huge livingroom up there, along with a "library", my sister's room and my parent's room. I'm not very good at describing houses, I see. Also, another thing that no one will believe is that the guy who built this house, Bertil, is still here. The second place is a very small apartment in Eskilstuna. Me and my older brother (Garou) lives there just for school. Almost every single one of my neighbours are alcoholic sportfans. I've had some plans to paint stuff in there, but I'm not very good at painting. Feh. |

Honestly, though, your house Rox0rX my Box0rs!!1! So cool, and your room looks amazing as well. It actually reminds me of this really cool Victorian mansion-esque house a couple blocks from me. VERY cool. ... Where do you keep the stash? :
...From... from 1901? Are you serious? That's DAMN cool. And your house reminds me of my friend's (gigantic) cabin. |
I live in a two-story brick house in a fairly large suburb between two counties. We have a nice yard, but it's kinda built on a hill so it's a bitch to mow the grass.
It's also oppressively humid in the summer and bitterly cold in the winter. Yep. Tennessee is a f*cking wonderland. |
My house is Georgian (lots of fireplaces and stuff), set on four floors and the basement (like most Central London townhouses) and has a medium patio garden at the back (in the city, gardens are small.) There are 7 bedrooms, 4 baths (inc. 2 en suites), a large kitchen on the ground floor, a large open plan space in the basement and 2 drawing rooms and 2 receptions. I guess it's a nice terrace, all the houses have sash windows and grand white stucco.
It's probably worth at least £2,000,000+ now. The way London house prices go. |
My house has three floors, 12 rooms, 40 stairs, 3 fireplaces and 11 doors.
My Bedroom is painted blue, with my Oddworld drawings bluetacked on the wall, along with two posters, a frame with my two letters from Spielberg in along with the signed poster of the Terminal. I have the rules of the Young Filmmaker of Mann up in my room so I remember to work on my film. A lot of the time it is tidy but now it is a right tip. Need to tidy it Friday Night, As BBS coming over for Sleep over. The area I live in is a small town on the Isle of Mann. Like the rest of the Island, it has few buidlings, lots of fields, forests, glenns rivers. Unlike the rest of the Island, we are are not on the coast, we are in the middle. We live about 10 minutes drive away from the sea (Seems alot when the longest you really drive on the Island is about 1 hour) The house is 93 years old and has had two extensions. It is one of the largest hosues in the area. We have two quite sizable gardens, and we grow Strawberries (Wild, discovered them this morning and are planning to grow several more) Plums, Tomatos, and several other plants, such as Lightning, Venis Fly Traps ect. |
:
And my stash is kept in my cupboard - all of my stuff is, it's all in recessed storage cupboards and closets. My grow space is in a small attic space which you can get to through a small door which you come to just before you go out the door onto the higher balcony. I share my grow space with the water storage tank, which makes watering the plants so much easier - before I figured out how to take the lid off the tank, I had to walk all the way over to the ensuite, fill up the watering jug, carefully walk all the way back over to the grow space again... yeah, it wasn't particularly efficient. |
It's messy and it smells like shit, but its mine and I love it. Also has a nice spacious basement. How can people live in a house without one? How?
|
:
Although I wouldn't mind a basement, I would paint it like Necrum mines, and I would turn that into a play area (Our third floor is our play area, and Mums always haning up the washing there! grrrrrrrr!) |
I have an incredibly scary basement. It's all very damp stone, and it all dank and drippy and creepy. It's made less scary because of the pungent (and oh-so-delightful) smell of guniea pig urine. Mm-mmm.
But yeah. It's pretty scary. |
My mom and I have just moved into a house we're renting that's a couple of minutes away from Luke's. It's a simple house--quite ugly and yellow on the outside, and there's a matching shed/garage in the back, which can be seen in the background of my piratey picture. There's 6 rooms and it's one story, but that's all we really need for just two people.
Besides, the yard is lovely. The landlords own a wooded lot on each side that we're allowed to walk on and the backyard goes into some pretty thick woods. There's always squirrels, bunnies, birds, and the occassional turtle or lizard to spend time watching. (I miss living by the lake on my grandfather's farm though; the scenery was beautiful and since we lived on the tallest hill around, the sky was visible as a complete half of a sphere. But to be frank, we lived in a trailer that was falling apart. What was supposed to be a temporary living arrangement turned into living there for 7 years or something like that.) My grandparents live 3 houses up the road, so whenever I'm too lazy to make something to eat, I walk up to my grandmother's from some real food as opposed to the junk food I normally eat during the summer. Although it's a simple, old house, it feels much bigger to me than to most people. At one point in my life, I actually lived in a camper with my mom. For serious. |

I doubt you guys know there is another Hartford its in Wisconson and I live there! It's a somewhat old town that no one knows about because of the other more noticed Hartford.

C'mon people, one love!
On Topic: I live in a slightly larger than average semi-detached house. It has an average sized garden occupied by trees, a patio, flowers, bushes, grass and a shed. My house has two floors, downstairs and upstairs. It has an attic which is too small to put anything in. It has no basement. There are 4 rooms downstairs but one is a huge open plan area that consists of a lounge, dining room and kitchen. The bathroom is downstairs which causes me annoyance when I need a piss in the night. Upstairs there are 4 rooms, the landing, my room, my parents room and the spare room. My room is quite large. It has one window which means I havce to have powerful lighting even during the day. I sleep in a single bed in the corner. I have the computer and desk in my room and I have my PS2 and TV near my bed. Amongst the other rubbish is a crap Yamaha bass and two crap squire guitars. The other stuff isn't interesting. Outside my window is a flat roof, if I was to put some french windows there, I could go outside onto the roof like Dino. My mom is proposing to do this when she redecorates my room. :D Outside rooftop soaring guitar solo? Hell yeah! |
:
Fo' real fo' real, I don't really care, as long as it stays on-topic after this. You hear me? On-TOPIC!!!@1!!! So.... my neighborhood has a lot of trees. |
Yeah man so does mine.
And hills and rivers... where did you say you live? |
Hey guys, so does mine. Freaky.
We should have a tree convention or something. |

Erm....most houses in London have basements or 'cellars.' Most houses in central London have basements because they were useful extra space and could keep people and possessions safe from wartime bombings. P.S. Which of you live in the city, country or suburbs? |
My home: A ramshackled mess that got even worse after Hurricane Charley. It's got two bedrooms on opposite sides of the home, each with its own bathroom. The kitchen is a walkthrough. Both the bedrooms and the livingroom have sliding doors to a lanai, a fenced-in porch. We have a pool that keeps filling up with too much water after it rains. Our lawn is covered in dog crap from our little friend Murray.
Neighborhood: Not much to talk about. Just a lot of roads. There are two roads parallel to ours called Peachland Avanue and Quesada Bulivard that lead directly to the city one way, and out of town the other. |

I'm funny. :
