Reopening of OIPT
 

Dear Members,

Those of you who have been here for a while will remember the OIPT [which stands for Oddworld Interactive Poll Team, even though there hasn't been such a big stream of "Who's your favourite character" threads, I think that the OIPT forum [if reinstated] would benefit the entire forum.

For those of you who don't remember the OIPT, the OIPT is a forum made up for polls [hence the name] but if reinstated I think that some minor changes be made.

I would hope that the OIPT Oddlympics would be recreated again as Oddlympics 2.0 was never finished. The Oddlympics would benefit the forum because, I think, it would bring in new members and as it isn't role-playing but just abit of fun, so the members have something light, to joke about.

The OIPT would help the forums because it would stop newbies creating poll threads which have been created many times before and it [just like the Oddlympics] would be a light, fun forum.

I would appriciate other members ideas on this, as I have already told Peter my thoughts [although I have been told to put more emphasis on him being a bitch and that he doesn't care either way].

Just out of interest, what would OIPT be polling on for the next year and beyond? There's only so many questions that can be asked, and repeating them is probably not an option, since people would get bored and would naturally object to it. Also you've got an inherant limitation in the fact that Oddworld Inhabitants is dead. (I don't care what Lorne Lanning said, it's dead, get over it)

Also I just don't see the interest or point in asking a bunch of people a bunch of questions. If anyone really wanted to ask these questions, surely there would still be a need for the OIPT? And if the OIPT can be replaced with the "IPT" thus removing it's affiliation with Oddworld (which has limited scope) wouldn't it simply be doing the job of OT? If people wanted to ask these questions, they'd ask them. But the fact of the matter is, we don't get a huge number of polls in OT anyway, so again I'm not seeing much of a future in this idea.

Sorry if I'm sounding a little pessimistic, but these are my genuine views and concerns, also I'm trying to get you to see things from the other side of the river too. If I had a penny for every time I would've made a better choice if there was someone there telling it from another perspective so that I wasn't blinded by my own optimism and enthusiasm then I'd be rich by now.

As I said in my first post, there would have to be a few adjustments. I'm sure the forum would stay strictly Oddworld, but it would be the moderators job [in the beginning at least] to make sure there is something new and 'interesting' in the forum, at leats once a week, which wouldn't necessarily be the same old questions.

Another part of the OIPT I would like to ressurect [sp?] would be the Oddlympics, which was a branch of the original OIPT.

I'll reply in more detail later, when there's more feedback. But I'm very grateful for your opinions and thoughts Dino.

What exactly is the Oddlympics? Sounds like an Oddworld style olympics with events that'd suit Oddworld eg. scrab fights, Mudarchery etc. What is it exactly? Is it a poll thing like OIPT or an RPG?

Oddworld isn't dead, they just began on working on new projects. They are now working on an Oddworld Movie and Citizen Siege.

An Oddworld-related event would be posted. There would be the same lineup of "competitors", each oddworld inhabitants, each with a backstory and advantages and disadvantages. You would then bet virtual moolah on the one you think would win after carefully analyzing their bio and the event, and then the event synopsis would be posted and you would win/lose money.

I was the one who created Oddlympics/ran it. It was very time consuming.

It sounds very fun. I'd be all for any of this. So if it is restarted, when will it actually start again?

When will it be restarted? [If it is restarted]

That would depend on the OWF members, and ultimately Peter, because he [and Abe Babe] have supreme rule of the forum. So if there was a vast majority in favour of the OIPT, Peter would be informed and it would [hopefully] be reinstated.

It would also depend on how much work would have to be done [e.g. the opening of Oddlympics] so that it's in operation as soon as it's opened.

So perhaps a few weeks, at most?

^_^;; Yeah, but it was a very good project and alot of members enjoyed it. I'm sure everyone appriciated everything you did for the Oddlympics!

Khanzumer was planning to restart the second round of OIPT some time around May the last time he told me about them in March. He was busy with school and soccer then, and since I haven't heard anything, I can only assume these or other activities reduced the attention he could give to the project.

At first glance, now would be the perfect time to restart OIPT and the Oddlympics because of the lull in actual Oddworld-related news, but I think it's missed the opportunity, especially with so many prominent members having already found they need to focus their attention elsewhere. Perhaps when the first news of the next Oddworld project starts drawing members here, it would be a good time to start, to show new and returning members who check in that's there's stuff here to entertain members regardless of the exact level of official Oddworldness.

This idea sounds mucho cool. Especially the Oddlympics. I'm all for opening a new forum if it gives me something new and Oddworld-related to talk about.
