I am not being racist against mudokons

hi I just wondered why are the muds in ao different colours e
1.blind ones are grey
2.normal ones are green
3.hero's like abe and bigface are blue

even in the clips on ao the muds are cloured grey green and blue so whats with this

Dipstikk 04-26-2005 08:32 AM

The color difference helps you tell what emotion or physical state that Mudokon is feeling or in.

Blind ones are gray and colorless, most likely because their world is colorless and dark and that translates onto them.

Mad ones are red with anger

Sad ones have the "blues"

Hyped-up Muds are probably yellow because it's a bright, vibrant color and so are they

Drunk Muds sick with brew are green because green is the universal color for a sickly feeling.

Abe's color is explained in the book. He's from a more arboreal climate, so he has a mottled purple-green pigment.

Other muds are green, and I suppose that's to tell them apart from Abe.

there was an awesome article written about that on Oddworld-Web, but the site seems to be have some problems now.

stingbee 04-27-2005 06:53 AM

so I suppose bigface came from the same place aswell then

i must know, why are abes lips actually sealed up? According to alf, they were stitched to stop him from spreading rumours, but they were stitched before he discovered new and tasty.

stingbee 04-27-2005 07:30 AM

well thats a question with a hard answer but oddworld is odd because on earth you'r either black rm white

What I've heard, he was a noisy baby, so they stitched him up to stop whining.

sligger 04-27-2005 08:11 AM

if abes lips are stitched shut, why can he open his mouth wide.

stingbee 04-27-2005 08:31 AM

yeah thats a good point but on,y the ends of his lips sown

Xavier 04-27-2005 10:32 AM

it's in the FAQ anyway, why don't you guys read it?

Wil 04-27-2005 10:39 AM

Mudokons change colour because they're chameleonic.

Esus 04-27-2005 12:22 PM

Just to clarify, wondering why different people are a different colour in any situation (i.e, why are the Nigerians over there black?), it wouldn't be racist, so the disclaimer isn't needed. Unless you were headed towards some satire towards contemporary political correctness.

The stitches must have some elasticity to them. He's had them long enough, maybe they've stretched out.

More because they have been stuck in the mine for so long that they have turned pale and pasty.

sligco 04-28-2005 04:33 AM

ya i agree and also mudkens dont real;y change colors thats just 2 show u wut mood there in or maybe they do change colors i dunno and whithout alf i cant find out

big bro slig #1 04-29-2005 05:38 AM

i can't find the thing. i goto FAQ then i type in 'stiched lips' but it doesn't work.

Oddish 04-29-2005 11:19 AM

Being indoors too often make your skin paler too.

sligco 04-29-2005 12:49 PM

ya but mostly dark places like ive heard a story called andy in the adic and he was like paper colored from living in the dark adic

that jerk 04-30-2005 03:13 PM

Also if the miners were to regain there spirituallity they grow feathers

Huh? If they change colors to show they're mood, that's still changing colors. Mudokens change colors depending on their mood, environment, and spirituality, according to the art book.

stingbee 05-02-2005 11:03 AM

well you do go red when you'r angry or matbe green like the hulk

Rich 05-02-2005 11:05 AM

No, because he/ you aren't Mudokons.

Wil 05-02-2005 12:09 PM

I think stingbee was trying to point out that humans change colour according to their mood, too. That's a good point, but I stand by Mudokons being chameleonic.

stingbee 05-03-2005 07:12 AM

obviosly they can't change their colour for long, they only change for a few seconds.

Esus 05-03-2005 07:19 AM

... Why's that?

stingbee 05-03-2005 11:01 AM

because they ain't a chamelion

Rich 05-03-2005 11:06 AM

Lol. The title of this thread amuses me. They change colour as a game play feature, nothing more. The End.

Nate 05-03-2005 09:57 PM

However we need to decide whether the gameplay features exist outside of the game oeuvre and in the "real" Oddworld (so to speak).

For example, Lorne has tried to explain the relationship between muds and the birds that they turn into when they die.

There are other times when a gameplay feature has been explained but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

duveaux 05-04-2005 05:19 AM

If a non-hero mud dies you don't see birds right?

Wil 05-04-2005 01:09 PM

Like Kimon says, the art book tells us that Mudokons' skin colours do change. Maybe in reality they don't change as dramatically as in the game, but it's not merely gameplay.
