I am not being racist against mudokons
hi I just wondered why are the muds in ao different colours e
1.blind ones are grey 2.normal ones are green 3.hero's like abe and bigface are blue even in the clips on ao the muds are cloured grey green and blue so whats with this |
The color difference helps you tell what emotion or physical state that Mudokon is feeling or in.
Blind ones are gray and colorless, most likely because their world is colorless and dark and that translates onto them. Mad ones are red with anger Sad ones have the "blues" Hyped-up Muds are probably yellow because it's a bright, vibrant color and so are they Drunk Muds sick with brew are green because green is the universal color for a sickly feeling. Abe's color is explained in the book. He's from a more arboreal climate, so he has a mottled purple-green pigment. Other muds are green, and I suppose that's to tell them apart from Abe. |
there was an awesome article written about that on Oddworld-Web, but the site seems to be have some problems now.
so I suppose bigface came from the same place aswell then
i must know, why are abes lips actually sealed up? According to alf, they were stitched to stop him from spreading rumours, but they were stitched before he discovered new and tasty.
well thats a question with a hard answer but oddworld is odd because on earth you'r either black rm white
:
if abes lips are stitched shut, why can he open his mouth wide.
yeah thats a good point but on,y the ends of his lips sown
it's in the FAQ anyway, why don't you guys read it?
Mudokons change colour because they're chameleonic.
Just to clarify, wondering why different people are a different colour in any situation (i.e, why are the Nigerians over there black?), it wouldn't be racist, so the disclaimer isn't needed. Unless you were headed towards some satire towards contemporary political correctness.

Being indoors too often make your skin paler too.

I think stingbee was trying to point out that humans change colour according to their mood, too. That's a good point, but I stand by Mudokons being chameleonic.
obviosly they can't change their colour for long, they only change for a few seconds.
... Why's that?
because they ain't a chamelion
Lol. The title of this thread amuses me. They change colour as a game play feature, nothing more. The End.
However we need to decide whether the gameplay features exist outside of the game oeuvre and in the "real" Oddworld (so to speak).
For example, Lorne has tried to explain the relationship between muds and the birds that they turn into when they die. There are other times when a gameplay feature has been explained but I can't think of them off the top of my head. |
If a non-hero mud dies you don't see birds right?
Like Kimon says, the art book tells us that Mudokons' skin colours do change. Maybe in reality they don't change as dramatically as in the game, but it's not merely gameplay.
