What in the Wookie-loving man-meat...?!

Signatures. What. Has. Happened?

So, last time i had the whole "show signature" thing on, we had a limit. I take it off for a year or so, put it back on, and all of the sudden the limit has gone.

Why!? For what reason? And can we somehow impose the limit again, please?

So. Many. Pointless. Signatures.

Coolmanbizkit 04-21-2005 11:10 AM

Yeah, A few of them are getting kinda long. Only the writing ones though.

Hobo 04-21-2005 11:29 AM

Yes. *chants* Crack down! Crack Down!...

*waits for innuendo of some form*

When is a signature too long?
In your opinion, is mine too long? I'll shorten it...

Oddish 04-21-2005 12:01 PM

It sould say in the FAQ.

The rules for signatures are right here: http://www.oddworldforums.net/rule.php. They are pretty easy to find, so obviously most people don't look at what the rules are.
:

  • Concerning signatures with an image:
  • There is a limit of one image per signature including smilies.
  • The dimensions of the image must not exceed 400 pixels in width, and 125 pixels in height.
  • The image itself must not exceed 35 kilobytes (35840 bytes).
  • The image cannot be hosted as an attachment on the Oddworld Forums.
  • There is a maximum of four lines of text.
  • Concerning signatures without an image:
  • There is a maximum of six lines of text.

duveaux your signature breaks the rules by having a smilie and an image. You can only have one or the other, not both. Also, lose the line breaks, it stretches out the signature.

I personally think that 4 lines of text should INCLUDE line breaks, because like I said they just stretch out your sig.

duveaux 04-22-2005 12:22 AM

O yeah, forgot the oddicon=(
Sorry goddlesswanderer:P
I don't think a line break counts as a line of text, but Ill remove them:'(

Jacob, if there are signatures which break the rules, inform us and we'll change them to fit the rules. The signature rules still exist, I've just not been online for ages - enough for a lot of things to pile up or slip through.

It does include line breaks, and we take that into consideration.

Alcar your signature breaks the rules. It has 9 lines of text. ;)

Ha ha,I never thought anyone would catch Alcar breaking the rules.:p

Abe16 04-23-2005 08:18 AM

Indeed it does. The only problem being that because I've centered my image off the left, and placed my text to the right of it, I reduce the space I'd take up. Technically, I'm using one or two line breaks (depending on your broswer), as it stretches down with a legal sized signature image.

You didn't actually think I'd break my own rules blatantly, now, did you? ;)

Damn, I thought we had him there :p

Dino 04-24-2005 05:21 PM

The rules don't say anything about alignment. :D

I know, but the concept of limiting the number of lines is to make sure that signatures aren't ridiculously long / tall. By aligning things I can reduce the space taken up, and get more information in.

By the way, it is not a new concept, it's just hardly anyone knows HTML. I stole the idea of aligning off One, Two, Middlesboogie who used it way back in the day. As far as I remember, it was an ingenious idea, and nobody rejected. Although, if things do get overboard, we'll take action.

And don't run with scissors. :dodgy:
