cancelled or not?
Ok i am very confused right now, i saw that soemoen on the forums said Fangus was cancelled....how dissipointing, but i checked IGN and it said nothing about beign cancelled. I am very confused can soemone give me some insight on this?
|
I thought it was cancelled, I'm not sure:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/search.php?searchid=51470 You might find it here... |
I've heard it was cancled. But, it might not. Dipstikk has been saying that Fangus has been cancled.
|
You misunderstand me. People have said it's been shelved like Sligstorm or HOO.
|
Sorry, i just assumed that, well, yeah.
|
Absolutely canceled. Look at this interview:
http://www.thehollywoodreporter.com/..._id=1000884458 I don't know if it is already posted here somewhere, but it would mind to be posted again. |
I am so mad right now.....I loved Stranger's Wrath, like i mean MO was fun but SW was amazing they had perfected their ideas for game play and cinimatics, and in one thing Lorne Lanning said:
"Wow they've done it they've crossed the border from moves to gameplay. I'm havin' fun, I'm havin' fun...Then i feel like I'm watching shots out of a move, but its my movie, cause thats my guy who I'm the guardian angel of, who I'm pushing through this." I just think thier making a mistake going away form gameplay, SW was perfect to me and I think they could make Fangus even better. Oh well..... : ( |
Well, that F***ing sucks. Really. Oddworld really IS dead now. To me, anyways. They want to go into TV and Movies? Fine. But now they've abandoned the entire game industry, and that pisses me off. Fine Oddworld. Leave. See if I care. This will be my last post on these boards, unless someone asks me a question.
|
How sad can that be? Just abondone Oddworld, because the game industrie broke them, and now they are going to do stuff with movies and tv. I really hope they will do lots of movies, I will always love them, with or without games.
But keep in mind that this isn't the end yet. Maybe in the future there will be more games again, when the industry is changed, or when OWI themselfs have lots of money, because the movies do good. And you know what happens with good CG movies, they become games. Not that those are good games, but when they come from OWI, they will be. But at the moment I am just afraid for one thing: Will the future projects get big succes?? If not, then it is really over, but until then, OWI will be there, right in your heart. |
Well, I can't express how disappointed I am in hearing this right now. :( I have always wanted to see movies based on the quintology, but I never thought that OWI would actually give up making games, either. :( I'm still trying to have hope and be optimistic, but I'm finding it harder and harder to do so from the things that I hear. Well, at least there's still a chance of a movie and TV show (for now). :)

:
I suddenly feel very sad. :( |
Why god!?Why did this have to happen?
|
There's a good chance Oddworld will go back to making games. They're just waiting till they can make the Quintology as good as they can with the advance of technology.
|
So in about 2 1/2 years time we might be getting an Oddworld movie, or an Oddworld tv show or hopefully both (although i'm not too sure how the tv show will work out).
You have to look at it this way, they either make dissapointing games that everyone grills them about because they're not to their expectation, or they make amazing films that you and I have been wanting them to make from the begining.. Yeah i'm gutted that they're not making Fangus anymore (or any other game for that matter), but reading that interview with Lorne, it really seems like they're taking a step in the right direction. I'm with them 100% and one day they will go back to making the games when they get millions of dollars and have the right systems to use for them. |
no games for the moment
but movies are realy great too! the quintology will go on in a non-playable way. |
Yeah, but I realy loved playing as an alien which could possess it's farts.
Fangus is scrapped as some people say, well for now it is. |
Good God, some of you guys suck so much. Oddworld movies and TV series have been in every fan's dreams for the last up-to-seven years, and now Lorne leaps over to these media you curl up and cry as if Oddworld is dead.
Oddworld is not dead: the Oddworld I love has broken free from a restrictive industry that denies creativity, and can now flourish as it should: the world and universe can grow and develop through the characters and stories Lorne intends. Hello people, that means the Quintology. Just off Oddworld's bandwagon, then, go on. I can't see anything saying you have any faith in them, but some of us do. Lorne's words are filled with a sense of freedom, and that fills me with hope for the future. And there my paramiteabean announcement shall end. |
Max is one of the only ones that are positive about the future (along with me, of cource).
Why? Oddworld is going to spread even faster, we are about to see Abe on the big screen. We will learn much more about the quintology. We will have our eyes full of beautifull Oddworld CG. And perhaps even things we don't suspect yet. |
if he actually has cancelled all the games, i hate him. I couldnt cope without anymore games.
|
hate him then, that's what he just did.
however, he can still cooperate with some external team to make other games. |
but i dont want the same thing happening to ow that happened to crash bandicoot. it will never be the same, in my opinion. there was so much left to be done and so much anticipation wasted. now ill only have the other four games to play till my eyes bleed.
|
Crash Bandicoot's original creators, Naughty Dog, had no creative control over the Crash Bandicoot series or universe following CTR, and money-grubbing Universal simply liscensed the rights to other developers. As a consequence, we ended up with a slew of mediocre games before Twinsanity came along. Lorne still owns 100% of the creative control over the Oddworld IP: stories and characters will not be sacrificed in the slightest, in fact now they have the chance to prosper with less hindrance.
Pretty stupid hating Lorne Lanning. He's provided you with four fantastic games and a fully realised, self-contained universe of believable life forms and situations. He's got nobody telling him to continue working on Oddworld, and still he struggles on, breaking free from a medium that's now near-impossible to be creative in. The guy demands more respect now than he has ever since he started making games to satisfy publishers (Stranger, Fangus). |
Thank you Max. Reading your posts has calmed me down a bit.
I don't have a problem with Oddworld movies. In fact, I think that would be kick-awesome. I'll just miss playing the games, that's all. |
I really wish they wouldn't take this direction, I mean games to movies haven't exactly had the best results. I'm aware this won't be one of those film productions run by a massive studio looking to cash in on the already developed fan base, but I still have my worries.
|
How can you miss playing games that never excist?
And you can always play the old ones, they are good over and over again. The only thing I will miss, is hand of odd: That would have been one of the coolest games, but maybe some day.... :D. But all I hope now, is that the tv shows(if they come) also come on dvd, because the show will be USA only I think. |

Maybe in the future Oddworld Inhabitants will be a movie and a game studio. That would rule. |

Yeah, I'm with you on the TV thing. I hope he was just posing that as a hypothetical; as in 'now that we have this great technology we could even do a TV show!'. Not sure.
I also can't decide whether he means he is going to completely cancel the games or go with the outsourcing thing like in the last interview he did. It would be a bit of a flipflop when he gave his guarantee that the games would continue. |
